How about a history forum?

We have members of all ages from all over the nation and many worldwide. I would be interested in participating in a "history" forum. It would allow people to share their historical photographs and life experiences. I am certain that individuals have many unique pictures that aren't in the history books...Like this one I was given by a family member that visited Hiroshima in 1945:

Wouldn't it be cool to see what is out there and find out about history from those who lived it?

I'm surprised that no one has responded to your post, but I have to assume that everyone feels, as I do, that discussions of history would almost always run afoul of the DG Acceptable Use Policy. My family history is so closedly intertwined with political events that it would be impossible to leave the politics out of the discussion. Your photo provides a perfect example: How could we possibly discuss Hiroshima in 1945 without discussing politics? Other people's history might naturally lead to religious debates, so as much as we DG members may love history, this probably isn't the place to discuss it.

I agree with Zuzu. Politics, religion and strong personal opinions
and feelings are bound to crop up in such a discussion and
would be inappropriate on DG.

OK, I see what you are saying...

I personally know a Tuskegee Airman and have been fascinated with his stories...My great grandmother went west in a covered wagon and burned cow manure to survive...She kept a prairie dog as a pet...My aunt who is still living has shared the first time she listened to the radio...Mom was a Dr. Pepper Calendar girl whose picture still sells on ebay for hundreds of bucks...there are a lot of folks out there who have fascinating stories to tell who won't be here in a few years, and I was just eager to hear what people have to say!

But it will need to be in a different place.

Thanks.

I agree that some stories may tend to have political undertones, but if there are things that wouldn't (like the Dr. Pepper calendar girl) I would think you could start a thread in General Discussion & Chat about interesting family stories or something like that--I don't know that there would be enough to sustain a whole forum but I'm sure you could get an interesting thread or two going over there.

OK, thanks for the thought. Not that there aren't enough interesting forums...I could spend hours perusing them. For now I'll put the general discussion forum on my watch list.
