thanks for the info....We haven't had to go the vet in 6 yrs and I thought the price was crazy!!! $204 for the 2nd shot and puppy check up for the 2 pups. Idk is that crazy or normal??

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Both. My vet was going to charge 220 for each kitten to be neutered! Now I'm only paying $102 total. And one of the vet's offices is a participating member!

I know that the spay for my pup way back when(93) was real high, that of course is a whole different operation.

Well we're back to getting rid of Eva....I'm waiting for a call back from a rescue group...our local shelter doesn't take owner surrenders...weird

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Flowerjen, I'm sorry you're getting rid of Eva. That's sad.

Victor, thanks for that info. I have a friend who got a female dog recently and they will need to spay her soon. They are very low income, and it will really help if they can save some money on that.

Flowerjen--are you sure? The 1st year can be very trying--almost as much work as a new baby. But the reward is many years of special companionship. Have you written the lists of pro's and con's?

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

oh yeah I'm sure. The 2 pups are soooo different he is so much more well behaved than her and she has regressed in her house breaking for some strange reason, she has a uti and she's on meds for it but now she started pooping in the house again whereas
Wall-e will go to the door and ring the bell hanging from the door knob and sit and wait...she runs away from the door and goes on the carpet, ugh. My hubby has NO patience for her and wants her gone NOW.

South Hamilton, MA

Shelters are too full right now, that's one reason for the rescue groups. Maybe something wrong with Eva's bladder (infection?). But we are in sympathy with the difficulties of handling 2 pups.

Spaying, put to sleep or anything going under is normally priced on weight.

Sounds like the female might be scared of the doorbell. Puppies are very timid when it comes to some noises. Hunters that shoot guns, will start puppies out with a cap gun. My dogs - adults - are scared of the fireplace if the burning wood pop or crackles. They run and hide. My adult female goes into a mode. She will be good a long long time and then if DH and I have angry words she goes into the peeing and crap mode for a week or two. I belive shouting sets her off.

Having a young pup - I would try crate training. Or a room with a hard floor.

South Hamilton, MA

When we raised cocker spaniels all pups were crate trained. When door bell will ring, youd just might have to pick her up & carry her outside.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I wish I lived closer, i'd take her. DH fell in love from the moment he saw her....I think he has a thing for white.

White? I will catch it !

Maybe a transport could be set up?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

I think Jen already has them crate trained. Also, she mentioned that Eva does have a bladder infection (UTI) and is on medication for it. I would love to take her, too, but I have a dog, and so does my father. We can't afford another.

We can't take her as we have 4 dogs already and you need a kennel license to own any more. Sorry!

Maybe post on the pets forum.

she maybe regressing to get attention if she senses that the other puppy gets more attention she may be doing it for the attention

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Well she's gone.... Took her to an adoption center that I know will take good care of her, it's attached to the vet we used to use.

Wall-e isn't even looking around for her at all I think he happy he can chew his rawhide in peace without getting attacked for it.

Yes she was being crate trained. We really couldn't handle having the 2 of them anymore.

The last story yesterday before bringing her to the adoption center. I brought her outside after she ate to do her business stayed with her 1/2 hour out there and she did NOTHING. So I refused to bring her back inside because I knew she'd go inside. I tied her out on the patio and kept checking on her....left her out there for another 1/2 hour...NOTHING...brought her in and looped the leash over the bannister so she stayed on the tile while I took Wall-e out, came back and took her back out and then she finally went immediately...what the heck was that?
Anyway it's like a weight has been lifted.
We were gone 3 hours while bringing her up and making a stop at my sil's house. We got home his crate was completely clean...he's such a good pup.

Good home is all that matters. I have a heart for animals. Husband told me I could get 5 chickens - chicks and grow them up. I wont be able to kill them and eat them. Impossible.

Just having the eggs should be good enough, No?

I dont know..... :-/ I eat just about anything except turnip. Then when it comes to bambi's, yogi bear and even trout. I see pretty little eyes. I just cant swallow it. Its a mental block like going outside in the cold!

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Mmmmmm........ I love eating venison! Never tried bear. Trout is good.

Jen, I'm sure Eva will get a good home.

Is the left ear floppy?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

He looks adorable!

Karen

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

It keeps going back and forth. One day they were both standing up next day it was drooping...I think Eva was chewing on them too much...

I would keep my eye on it. There is something you can do if it dont stand up but timing I think is essential.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

They say not to play around with them too much.

I can remember a friends dog had an ear taped by the vet so it would stand up. Was years ago. If I can remember it was a popcicle stick......

The German Shepard Dog club won't accept white shepard registrations as they seem to have more medical problems.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Oh that's interesting..... the first time I heard that.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Discrimination?

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Totally, Victor!!!

They don't like the medical side.
