Did I miss something? When did this start? I was going to browse the Marketplace, when I saw a link for "DG Shop" . . . if there is a thread about it, let me know, and I will go to that thread.
Thanks!
DG Shop?
It's been there for over a year. There's never been a thread about it, to my knowledge.
Wow. All this time I've been going to the Marketplace, it's hard to believe I've never noticed the link! I need to remember to wear my reading glasses! LOL ^_^
OK, I'm a bonehead. Where is the link to this?
Thanks,
Maggie
It's under the Products & Sources tab.
I see DG Marketplace but not DG shop???
Maggie
For me, it's off on the right hand side menu, second from the bottom.
If your ads are turned off, I don't think you see it at all.
I have ads turned off and it shows up in the navigation sidebar when I'm anywhere in Product & Sources.
Thanks for the correction. It's been a while since I set it up.
Thank you SO much! I didn't even lok on the right!
Maggie
Well, I'll be darned. I've never noticed the DG shop!
I had no clue about it either!
Tell us more, or link us to more info, please... where do the profits go? I saw some tool sets with "Garden Angels" in the name, and that made me wonder if the shop was set up to benefit the GA fund. ?
I don't think it goes to the Garden Angel fund or anything like that--if that was the case I suspect it would have been publicized a little more with an announcement on the home page or something, or it would show up in the main list of things on the Products & Sources page rather than just showing up in the navigation sidebar. Because Dave initially thought you could only see it if you had ads turned on makes me think it's more along the lines of advertising rather than anything else .
OK... just wondering who or what corporation we would be supporting by purchasing from there... it does look like a fun site to browse! LOL, maybe I should look it up in Garden Watchdog?
Does this mean Dave has a store he's set up on his web site to sell stuff for his own profit? Not being negative, just trying to figure it out. Did that make sense or am I daff?
Well, DG does need to bring in money somehow so that Dave & the admins can continue to be paid, servers can be fixed when they break, new features can be added, etc, that's why there are advertisers in the first place. I think this store is just a fancy version of the other paid advertising that most of us probably have turned off and never see.
Just so we're clear, I'm not being critical either, just trying to figure out who "runs" the store. :-)
Just a note about the GA fund...I inquired a couple months back about it. I benefited from it and wanted to "pay it forward" for someone else. I was informed that it is no longer available.

Oh, that's too bad! The last I heard, it was still around but topped up enough that it didn't need additional donations... maybe they were actually just letting the fund run its balance down. I can see where something like that could present administrative issues...
I was informed that it is no longer available.
It's still available, we're just not accepting donations into it. The Garden Angel committee is alive and well and uses funds every year to subscribe several people.
Well, that is good to hear..I must have misunderstood Terry's response to my inquiry. Thanks Dave.

Oh, good! Thanks, Dave.
Could you please enlighten us about the "DG Store?" Is it "just a fancy version of the other paid advertising" as ecrane suggested, or do profits from the products sold there get channeled more directly into DG? (I'm all for DG making profits... that's what keeps this site going and growing!)
It's just a fancy version of advertising. We get some kind of cut from the sales to the store but I don't know what kind of cut it is. Sorry I couldn't be much more helpful than that.
Personally I'm vastly more interested in the marketplace than the DG Shop.
Me too, but I was curious... and willing to look there for items I want if it's a way to help support DG. Thanks!
Sounds like a fine plan, but buying and selling in the DG Marketplace helps DG out more than the "DG Shop".
Gotcha!
