Poppies in Texas

Liberty Hill, TX(Zone 8a)

Frostweed is that picture of the prickly poppy that plant that grows in all the pastures but the cows won't touch because of the thorns? I never realized that was a poppy. Thanks for all the poppy pictures I've had a bad cold and been unable to think clearly for over a week. I watch the poppy forum but many of the different varieties seem to really need the cold weather that they see in the northern states. I have sown seeds for Shirley, Flander's and CA poppies but I'm wondering if I should bother with the Oriental or Icelandic poppies. They are so pretty but I don't know how they would do down here.

Yes, I suppose they are, and they are just as beautiful as any other poppy, the petals are like silk, I love them. There are also many others including a yellow and a rose prickly poppies that are native to Texas.

I have always loved the "white thistle flower" that's what my family calls them. I never knew they were poppies but since I love poppies it shouldn't be a surprise that they caught my eye.

I wish I had the yellow and the rose poppies too, but maybe some day.
