HEY! Gimme back my Pine Siskin! ;)

Whiteside County, IL(Zone 5a)

Oh Met, get some whole peanuts!

The Ozarks, MO(Zone 5b)

Thanks Met...Yes they love peanuts and will visit constantly if you have them!

Mrs. Ed...Do the Siskin's come and go at your place. I never know if they are gonna show up or not...they are always a welcome visitor.

I haven' seen a siskin or a purple finch in days. Every house sparrow in the county is in my yard though!

Mrs. Ed...I have heard a lot of people say that the House Sparrow numbers are up this year. I didn't have any last year but they seem to be increasing here also.

We also have lots of Red-tailed Hawks and they always show up when I am out in the field and all the birds disappear! I need a longer lens to get a decent pic though and the know-how on how to photo birds in flight!

Methodical, The PB log is from a large poplar branch DH cut off last year. Its about 2 ft. long. He drilled a small hole through the top for the hanger wire. The hanger is copper wire he had, but a coat hanger would work fine. There are 6 one inch holes drilled in about 1/2 inch deep using a forstner bit on the drill press at various places around the log about 4 inches apart. DH says a spade bit would work too. Easy to make and basically free.

Love the pic of the diving nuthatch.

Clinton, MD(Zone 7a)

Thanks for the info Beclu727. I think I will try that.

I got lucky with the Nuthatch as I was shooting it while it was on the tree and it took off. I saw in the preview and was surprised.

Methodical, what a crazy good shot of the dive-bombing nuthatch! I love it!
Everyone is submitting such great photos. Someday I'll get back in the swing of things and post some of my own

Wow great pics everyone!

I haven't seen more House Sparrows but theres definitely been more House Finch around. In just my yard I'm counting 100 or more at one time! Those guys are real piggies too!

Congrats on the new bird Met!

Love the White-crowned Sparrow Rose!

As soon as my Pine Siskens see those hawks barreling into the yard a few times they won't be back. I'm glad I was able to get a few pics of them.

Wow many more new photos today. I so enjoy seeing all of them. As I look through I think "Oh got to remember to thank that person, and oh got to remember to comment on that one etc and then the list gets so big and so many wonderful photos I can't rememer them all so I hope it is enough to just say thanks each one of you for taking time to share your photos and the names of all these beautiful birds.

Wind Surfing !!!!

Ravens playing on the up drafts, at the Cook Inlet bluffs, near Anchorage Int. Airport.

Thumbnail by Grasmussen
Anchorage, AK(Zone 4a)

There was a large flock of Ravens enjoying the up drafts. Ravens will seek out strong up drafts along bluffs and high rise buildings. Watching Ravens "Wind Surfing" there is no doubt they are actually playing. They roll, tumble, and case each other.
