There remains one last step for the photo contest, and that is to select which page in the calendar each winning photo will go.
To that end, please visit this page:
http://davesgarden.com/contest/2008/calendar.php
We are particularly in need of selections for February, March, and June. The more people vote, the better the results will be and the quicker I can get the calendar created!!! So far 29 people have voted (THANK YOU!). I'd like to see maybe 100 people total help by voting, if possible.
Thanks,
Dave
Help us create the DG calendar
THis might sound crazy to other people but I think the Plumeria picture should be February. I know that's probably not when it blooms, but Feb. seems like the longest coldest month of winter up here. So that's the time of year I most want to be somewhere tropical, like Hawaii and when I see a plumeria it takes me there for a moment or two : )
How many have voted now Dave? It's a hard decision with so many 'fall' looking photos. Gorgeous, all of them.
I thought so too!
edit: for February

We've now had 41 members vote! Not bad!
Currently the Plumeria is winning in February with 7 votes.
Sorry all--I had voted before seeing this thread. I thought the dragonflies were a good choice for Feb--Valentine's Day and all. Sorry about that!
Funny, I voted before I saw this thread too and picked the dragonflies for February as well. Didn't even think about the bugs being a couple! Just thought it looked like something to put a smile on my face when I have cabin fever bad. :)
I voted for the Dragonflies for February too. Every time I look at that photo I think it looks like Angel wings to me.
Great photography and Congratulations to all the winners and non winners alike! It gets harder and harder to choose favorites every year!
Yes, the number and quality of photos definitely get better every year!
Looks like there are 3 photos with fall foliage for Sept, Oct, & Nov... I like the boy & dog photo for September, since it has a "back to school" feel I think.
I agree that with no snow scenes, we need some really festive photos in Jan & Feb... I love the plumeria photo, and I was thinking that the 'Bright Lights' chard had a "Happy New Year!" or maybe a Mardi Gras feel to it.
I too agree that it gets harder and harder to pick favorites every year! The photography is just so exceptional and there are so many wonderful choices! Enough for two or three different calendars!
I too voted for the boy & dog photo for September ... And, I just had to vote for the beautiful fall foliage and the rustic barn/house for October! Perfect!
Some months were really easy for me to decide about, like the dewy yellow flowers for April ("April showers")... December I wasn't sure about until I thought about holidays and family gatherings, and then those great "head planters" seemed an obvious choice. The dragonflies make me smile, too... I put them in March, sort of randomly. :-)
I put the swiss chard as the cover thinking it would be so colorful for a garden calendar; I also, picked the dew-laden flowers for Apr; the lightening as Dec because it was blue (lol); the very red flowers for Jul and Aug; split the fall pics between the fall months; the hummers for the back cover, and randomly placed the remaining pics.
They were all so absolutely gorgeous, I wonder if anyone would even pay attention to what pic was displayed in what month. I wish we could have an 18 or 24 month calendar to show more of the photos!!
This is great, we have had 74 members vote in this area. That's probably enough and I appreciate the help! I'll be making the calendar today or tomorrow if I can just make the time. :)
You mean you don't want as many people voting on this as on the photos themselves? LOL I imagine some themes quickly emerged in terms of which photos seemed to best suit which season.
Will there be a place on the calendar where one of Trois' photos could go?
I wanted to use a photo from Trois but his family was not able to get me the high resolution version of the photo that we needed.
So, we'll stick with a note of tribute on the cover.
That works, too! I guess the format doesn't lend itself to including a smaller "thumbnail" type photo.
It has to be in full resolution or else the quality when printed will be pixelated.
OK -- I thought that was an image-size dependent issue.. thanks for clarifying! :-)
where can I buy my calendar? ^_^
Last year it was on Zazzle...I'm sure Dave will post a link as soon as he has it finished!
