An Afternoon at Christi's House.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

What a fun time we had. She has a lovely home and yard with lots of tropicals and very neatly arranged.
She had many Iris, Daylilies and Tuberose and needed planting and we helped her with those.
I don't know what else was done because I had to leave early to make it to church, but I hope everything that needed to be done was taken care of.
I love the scent of tuberose, so she gave me some to plant at home and some of her mother's daylilies as well.
T.J. Broncbuster organized it and arrived with his lovely wife and children, Sheila, Pattie and me rounded out the group. It was a lovely afternoon.
Here she is in front of her green house with her beautiful Brug full of blooms.

I wish I had more pictures, maybe Christi or Sheila will have more to post.

I didn't bring my camera yesterday, but I took pictures when I visited Christi in July.
I went back and looked at some of those and this one is of the white sweet smelling tuber roses that were blooming in July.

That is very pretty Sheila, do you have more?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Also I had taken a picture of one plant Christi was trying to ID. Anyone out there know what this is??

We had a great visit with Christi even though we came as a surprise ala T.J. Not sure we helped do much in the yard. She had been busy doing things herself and with others; trying to beat the cold weather. But at least when we left, her spirits were lifted. Not sure she will trust T.J. again! LOL!

I had taken this on in July from the back side of the veggie garden. The greenhouse would have been off to the right.

This is the area that Josephine and I replanted yesterday. Christi dug and cut fans of all of them. The area was loaded with iris in July.

The plant that was to the left of the greenhouse door is a mum of all things! I had talked to Patty about it and she said Christi didn't know the name. I happened to see the plant on BugFiles where a DGer was getting an ID. I dmailed her for the plant ID. Here it is!

I see it propagates from cuttings...so Christi; I want one next year.

How unusual, ir almost looked like a suculent, very pretty. Thank you for finding out Sheila.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I am sure that is it, but Christi.....can you confirm?? I wish I had gotten a picture of it, doh!... didn't have my camera.

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh, I want one too, please, Christi!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Talk about a surprise! Sheila had been trying to get this together for awhile and I was not for it. Fully aware that others have more work to do in their own gardens than they can count.

Do I appreciate it? "You Betcha!"

Will I reciprocate? First chance I get!

This is our dear Josephine.

Here's the real story. Mitch showered me with iris and now here Josephine and Sheila are planting them in the place TJ had dug.

And here we have Patty, Sheila, Christi, TJ, Ashley, Jimi, Josephine and Jordyn.

What a group!!!

They were here at Mitch's behest. He never gives up.

God bless all of you.

I absolutely don't deserve the love that was showered here. You can be assured that it will be passed on.

This was a surprise. TJ called around 11AM and asked if it would be ok if he came by. Of course. Always eager to visit with him and his sweet family.

The work day was a complete surprise. Sheila had asked about it several weeks ago and I nixed it. I am fully aware that everyone has more on their plate than they can handle.

THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU.

AND THEN.....

THANK YOU!!!

Colleyville, TX(Zone 8a)

Glad to see you all had a great time. Nice to have good surprises like that.

Looks like you all had a lovely time :)

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I think she has it right, What do you think Christi?

Dallas, TX

Someone could have called me ... you know how busy I stay ... working from home and a business. Well no more! Friday was my last day at work ... so I am free woman ... that is until I get out the hospital ... I go in on the 20th ... keep my hip in your prayers. ;)

Sylvia

Garland, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia! Are you saying you retired from your day job?????

I'm keeping your surgery in my prayers.

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia I hope all goes well, and congratulations on your retirement.
Josephine.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Just got off the phone with Sylvia. I wanted to make sure we understood she was not going back to work after surgery. That is what she said....
she will be RETIRED!
Sylvia...
I will be thinking about and praying for you as you go into surgery on the hip. Maybe they will get it right this time and after recovery you won't experience the pain you are having now.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Sylvia, have put your name on the top of my prayer list. Having just gone through surgery myself, for once I truly understand. This time will be different I just know it.

Thank everyone for the ID on the two plants. Wouldn't you know the one would have a common name of "Squirrel's Tail". hahaha Still it is beautiful and I would be happy to share it with anyone. Don't remember buying it so it has to be a pass-along to me.

The "Button Mum" is from Mitch. It is another to be moved because the "Hoja Santa" overpowered it this last summer. It is more beautiful everyday as each stem puts out a bloom. Another that I will be glad to share.

The Plant Files tell that each of them will propagate with cuttings. Not being all that experienced myself, I would just guess that Spring would be the best time.

Finished planting the japanese iris and ditch lillies yesterday. Just like housework, everywhere I look I see more that needs to be done. Since January I was not able to do much of anything in the garden. Everything grew bigger and better all by itself. Of course Mike saw to it that there was plenty of water.

Mitch was my mentor and instructor and I miss him greatly not being here to stop by every now and then. He is now a Youth Pastor and tending The Lord's Garden which makes plants look like a breeze.

This past spring Rjuddharrison, Randy, came with a truckload of tropicals. We planted just anywhere there was a clear spot in the dirt. Every single one has thrived and the brugs are blooming their hearts out.

Broncbuster, TJ, brought numerous things but the timbers that became a raised vegetable garden are perfect.

These young men continue to bless my life and "our" garden. None of us truly own a garden. We are given an oppportunity to tend it so others may share.

Those of you who are new to DG cannot begin know yet the depths of the friendships ahead of you. The most caring, generous group of people on the planet have gathered to support each other in any way possible.

God is good EVERYDAY!

Christi

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

Amen to that Christi!!!

That's my kind of surprise party, glad ya'll had fun and such a pretty day to work with.

Let Sylvia know she has more prayers on the way. I know how much her hips have bothered her, sure would be fine if she didn't have to worry about them anymore, especially with her new found free time!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

You have inspired me!!! Have worked every minute since you guys were here, digging, moving, getting rid of (yuck) clover in the beds. Have blisters on both hands...just glad to be able to work.

Sheila, got the poppy seed today. Where would you suggest I plant them since you know my garden now?

Colder tomorrow and the next few days but that is ok, it is that time.

Still feeling the glow of the friends that came and gave their time...main thing that we can never reclaim. TJ's wife and children are special to me.

What a lovely family!!!

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Hi, Jo. Saw your pictures of the frostweed today. How come I still don't have one?

Christi

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I will have to give you a few the next time I see you, I promise.

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Christi.... The poppies are sun loving, so I would say along your back fence for sure. Maybe a few where you plant your Shasta Daisies, they both bloom in April.
If I had known you didn't have Frostweed, I could have included some of those. Josephine gave me my first and I love them. They are a butterfly and bee magnet.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

Waaay behind with the work inside the house so guess what today will be.....

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

I hope you are through outside, it is getting cold!!!

Houston, TX(Zone 9a)

I'm sorry I missed the family re-union!
It's tough times right now.

If you guys need to warm up a little this winter come and visit!

rj

Josephine, Arlington, TX(Zone 8a)

I sure would like to see your jungle RJ, but don't know when I can come down that way.
Maybe some day.
Josephine.

Desoto, TX(Zone 8a)

You might be surprised!!!!
