Saw on the news that there's flooding up north, hope you're all out of harms way.
Jan, when it's too warm to run the pellet stove, DH turns on a portable heater next to his chair, keeps the room where he watches telly warm and cooler in the rest of the house for me. Well somewhat cooler, at least it's not roasting.
I wondered about the bare feet too......brrrr, ouch or maybe both.
We're having a wait 10 min. day, it changes that often. Sunny one minute, showers the next.
What weird weather we're having #5
Get as big a generator as you can afford. We got a small one, had to turn around and get a bigger one later. If it's only a couple of day, it's not bad. We were out 4 days once, and it was really cold, that's when we decided we needed a bigger one.
Sally I love your description. A wait 10 minute day. So accurate!
Welcome Gardener105. I am relatively new here and this is a very friendly thread. I can tell I will spend a lot of time here when the weather turns really rainy & cold!
Time to get the rest of those leaves up. Maybe by tomorrow they will have dried out a little. Does anyone have leaf guards on their gutters and if so do they work?
Red, every container I have out side, including the cat litter type buckets, are full. We’re in a place that if we flood someone needs to be building an arc, but we are saturated.
I don’t mind being “in charge” of the thread, I just forgot that I was. I do this one and the music chain game that need new threads. Just poke me if we need a new thread and I haven’t made one.
I think that I saw it behind flimsy clouds, but that could have been the day before full moon.
Red, I generally don’t like myself in either, which is weird because I don’t really have any self-image issue, I just think the pictures suck; maybe I’m a snob that just likes my own photos? In general I do think that “unposed” pictures are the best. Here’s one of my favorite, but not flattering pictures I have.
Great picture of the cat.
Mom, it’s really easy to make a new thread.
1.You start a new thread with “we came from here” and the address for the old thread
2. Open new thread and copy address.
3. Go to old thread and post “new thread here” and address of the new thread.
90% of my pictures don’t have people in them. I’m pretty good at taking pictures of Sage, but I need to make a point of taking more pictures of DH and I.
…or the flooding/cold this Spring.
THat's a beautiful spot. May I ask where it is?
I remember that spot from the photo contest - absolutely beautiful. Do tell - where is it?
I love to people watch....and the well is a great place for it and the water is very good!
The pictures are great Shelly, the cat is Priceless!!!!! What would we do without our little fur people???
Sounds like the goat has found a new home!!!
The bridge picture of Laura and Shawn is in Carrbridge (sp) Scotland that is one of my favorite pictures.
It was a tough spin class tonight and I'm beat...think I'm going to call it a night.
We are not to talk about photos in the contest, till after be careful of what is said. I like it. LOL
Sally, what is the purple one I want it, Soooo love purple.
Please tell me, Drooling.
Beautiful orchids Sally! I don't do well with indoor plants, so I especially love to see others plants. Sally, that moon shot is great. I was just outside a bit ago trying to get a few pictures, but I just can't seem to get the settings down right. Either way, it was still a great night to be standing outside at 1 AM!! I'm so glad that there's a few other night owls here. It makes it so much more interesting.
Tilly, when I see the folks again in a few days I will certainly mention that there's someone to take the goat from them. I don't think she's willing to drive that far yet, but I don't think that it will be all that long before she is!
Sally, no need to check out the river, it's likely two feet higher. Although, nothing to crazy. It's just more at February levels as opposed to November levels, but not flood levels. I think it'll drop again fairly soon. I'll post pictures of my river banks in a bit.
you still have a dahlia going Tilly?
Unfortunately, it's an orchid hybrid and too difficult to give you a piece, or I would gladly do it. Love your purple, I'm a purple person too. It's official name is Mtssa. Dark Star 'Orchidworks'. I bought it at Home Depot of all places.
Hope your hand didn't hurt too much during the night.
rc...I knew you would keep an eye on things. It has to go really high before it would bother us, we've got spillways that the corp of eng. put in.
Watered my orchids today, so I got up close and personal with them. Many more spikes coming!! Yeah!
That moon shot was hard, it's still too dark to get pictures with my camera. Plus it's fairly new and I'm not used to it. Tried with my old camera too and those were awful.
Supposed to be dry for the next five days, so we shouldn't have to worry about the river for a while.
Hey Gardner105, Wannadac ...so happy to have you here! And Ladybuggfan and Willowwind (you've been here before, but quite a while ago!). It's so nice to see soooo many new folks!
Gardner.... thanks, and yep my kitty certainly knows what she wants and how to get it! Which, even though sometimes her begging is untimely, I actually love having an idea what in the world is going on in a cat's mind. She's almost 8 years old and I just adopted her about 9 months ago. She came knowing to come to her name, she comes to a whistle, knows to lead you to what she wants, chases anything that moves, will not let you close a door without her, must smell everything, and puts her ears back when she's confused/curious. The funniest thing is that she tries to take guests to her treat bag to get them to give her treats. it's my own fault because when she first got to my place she tried to hide from everyone, I got her to come out by giving her treats. Then she just hid from new people, so I had them give her treats. Now she tries to take all new people to her treats. I bet that it's a beautiful, crisp, clear night in Bend tonight. I bet that you'll have some wonderful snow/winter pictures to show off to all of us before too long.
Wannadanc.... That picture is a funny look! we were building a new (trail) bridge for one that had broken and partly washed downstream. the parts that went downstream we clogging the creek and had to be pulled out. We're required to wear the "logger boots" and hardhats. However, the boots are more hazardous when they're wet if you fall in and it takes days for those boots to dry out, most of us only have one pair. So an executive decision was made about what was truly important in that situation.
Ladybug, sorry to hear that you're having flooding already. :-( Hopefully it's not too bad. Has the water started to recede yet? I sure hope so!
Zhinu..... not to sorry about the thread! Whoever is annoyed with how long it takes the page to load can start a new one or request it! Some computers are fast and others are slower, and I always forget that some folks still have extremely slow dial-up. I agree with you completely about the whole picture thing. It's bizarre how we all deal with ourselves in pictures. I love both of the ones that you posted. They both look chilly!
Sally, I think that the river that goes behind me actually is part of the same water that goes by you. Granted, it's been through a few dams and some other rivers have joined in by then, but I think that we're always going to be directly connected. Of course, that can't possibly account for whatever the army corpse might be doing with the resevoir levels, but aside from that.....
Of course, that can't possibly account for whatever the army corpse might be doing with the resevoir levels, but aside from that...
That accounts for a lot!!
Off to bed I go, good night all.
OK that didn't work, how do you quote someone and have it show up as a quote?
I don't know. But, what I do know is that at this time of night, i could've very easily repeated myself or someone else :-p
Red, I love your photos. I always look forward to checking this thread before we run out the door for school as you're a night owl. Our flooding seems to be receding nicely. Last week it was almost gone overnight, the ground here is amazing in it's ability to soak up all that extra water. Makes me glad we're at the top of the hill though.
Thank you for the welcome Portland1. Great pics everyone!!!
What a nice thought - being connected to someone by a river. I imagine it being a liquid ribbon with people holding on all along its length, connected to each other.
Why are you guys awake all night long? What time do you get up in the morning? I've connected with a bunch of night owls!
Thanks bunches Ladybug....and I'm so glad to hear that all is going back to normal!
Gardener.... Have you had snow yet? I it snowed down to about 300' above my place a couple of weeks ago. That should have dropped some on Bend I think.
Portland, Both Tilly and I have strange work hours. Sometimes early and sometimes not off until 11 or midnight. I could be wrong, but I think that late in the evenings is pretty much the only time that Sally has to herself.
Red, the first one wasn’t bad. I wear my coat until it’s really not reasonable to do so, especially on the UK trips; you have no clue how much stuff was in that coat. I pulled it all out to wash my coat one day and was going to take a picture, but my brother had the battery and it was a segregated hostel. Let see if I can remember: Wallet, cigarettes, camera, notebook, pen, travel cribbage board, cards, generally several flyers on any given day, Kleenex, Band-Aids, Handy wipes, room key, hairbrush, medication bottle, often snacks, I know I’m missing stuff it was insane how much I carried around in that coat. It took up over half the hostel bed laid out flat. I still have the coat and standard is Wallet, keys, cigarettes, passport (use it for ID), often notebook, pen and camera, and any number of random papers; phone and lighter are in pants pockets. The coat is basically my purse; if I carry a “purse” it’s a backpack or small purse for formal occasions.
The second one was taken while we stretched our legs; we were in a bus most of the day.
We did have a couple cold days. I remember waiting for a train with nothing else to do in the freezing wind for at least an hour; I think we were in Wales, now that sucked.
My DH’s work schedule is like that, he starts work anywhere between 11am and 5pm and gets off anywhere from 3pm to 11:30pm; though most days it’s 3 to 10:30/11:30. I’m just a night owl so sometimes I’m on late, usually it’s too dead to be on, unless I have insomnia and am still on when the East Coast starts to wake up.
I'm always here "red". I read you everyday and love to listen to your conversations. You live in such a beautiful spot and take such good pictures. Love your rising river photos.
It's nice having someone to talk to this time of night.
You're lovely Willow! you should chime in more!
Zhinu, I agree... it's good to find a few around late! I love your coat! that's a great idea if it's not hot. I don't know how in the world you fit all of that stuff into that coat!!!!! how many pockets does it have? I'd wear it to the thearters so that I could sneak snacks in. (I hate the cost of food there!!!) Those weird work schedules are tough for everyone to get used to, I think because you can't actually get used to them.
red, 7 pockets if you count the all, but I was using 5 at the time, 4 now.
Gardener.. your boys are adorable! I would love them to pieces. i bet that they just love the snow and have a great time prancing around in it!!
So, I finally made a collage. The cat of mine that you folks saw in the video is strictly an indoor cat, it was also a request of the cats' prior person that she remain that way. And that's how it will stay because the cat is completely clueless about the "outdoors". However, she's always curious about what is on the other side of any door and will sneak through any chance she gets. So, i've decided that I will let her venture out onto the porch with complete supervision (she completely scared at the slightest strange noise) so that she might not try to sneak out there because she simply 'wants to know what's on the other side of the door.'
this is a few pics of her outing.
wow, just using 5 of the 7 pockets zhinu ! :-p Think of how much more you could've gotten away with!
You should all get Laura to post her best ever picture she took today!!!!!!
That coat must have been really heavy!!! But when you think about it distributes the weight better than a purse.
gardner....cute puppies!
Yep, rc hit that one right on the nail, I'm too busy all day to get on the computer. Just finished up the newsletter for the orchid club I belong to. My whole working time I had to go to bed early, because I started work at 5:00 a.m. or I was working night shift. Now I stay up as late as I want LOL I can get so much done after DH goes to bed and the house gets quiet.
Nice having more people drop in :-)
