i've missed your poetry don

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Good one, Don. Allison - mine are in areas that I can't see from inside so I can't say for sure, but most likely.

Deb, you can always try in a container.

Quoting:
Prune my wishes

I like that phrase.

South Hamilton, MA

Yes, but we don't do it.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

As we age, prunes are our wishes.

Sue, RI(Zone 6a)

Just as long as we don't look like we eat.....

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

LOL, ... prunes are our wishes. Mom can attest to that. Juice and the fruit every morning. It is amazing what the meds she takes do to her system.

I have some echis coming int the spring. 'Tomato soup' and ' I forget'

I've always wanted blueberries.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

'I Forget' would be great for a Memory Garden...

Craryville, NY

You are better than ever, Victor....yukyukyuk! :-)

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks Mo.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I need all the help I can get for my memory. So, when the echis come late April, I'll be surprised at what I ordered. I love surprises!! I do have the name written down -somewhere- if I could only remember where I put it.

In iris colors 'Crimson Edging' would be known as a plicata--haven't seen that pattern in DL before.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

I've never seen a daylily like that Crimson Edging. Lovely Celeste! That is something to look forward to.

I'm getting my order together for Japanese irises. It will be awhile before the catalogues are out though. And I have some new ones from last year I can't wait to see bloom.

Here's two of the new ones I got from Ensata last year. Both photos are from Ensata. They are developing true blues, which is really exciting in the Japanese iris world.

Polly you said the right word...blue! Those are beautiful iris's and in my favorite color too..what's not to like!! Be sure to take a picture when they bloom.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I bought 4 ensata iris last fall.
Your blues are great.Cant wait to see 'em

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Beautiful!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

I think ensata has some of the prettiest Iris's and you always get nice plants from them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Mine came bare rooted.I soaked 'em and planted them in containers so they wouldn't spread too much

35-40 bucks for 1-2 - I dont think so. I am too cheap.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Sherrie those are the newer high end ones. They have plenty for alot less that are just as pretty.

Here, these are some of the other Japanese Iris's.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

those are all very nice. although a bit expensive - rather spend on a jm or dogwood:)

South Hamilton, MA

We don't grow JI, but have plenty of trees, so irises are our current year purchases.

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

How long do those J Irises flower?

South Hamilton, MA

Depends on the # of buds. Have a friend who is working to get earlier ones.

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

My JI bloom with the peonies, here. Last only a couple weeks, for me.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

From my earliest JIs to my latest ones, about 6 weeks. Only about two weeks total per individual plant.

Ensata does sell beautiful irises, and the ones they hybridize themselves are certainly among the best.

Those purchases were justified as they are my stock plants to make more plants to sell. Most of the ones I buy are only in the 8-12 range. But I think those are really special, they've not had true blue until recently.

JoAnn, they won't spread, they only make a plant about 12-18 inches all around. They don't run.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thanks a bunch for that info. I'll release them from jail in the spring. Ground is frozen here now and clay besides, no point in frustrateing myself for nothing.

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

You're welcome. I wouldn't transplant them this time of year anyway. But in the spring. Studies have shown they perform much better in the ground than in a pot.

Do you recall which varieties you bought?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Yes Greywoods Social Butterfly
ooops no pic wait

Those are lovely JoAnn!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I have high hopes for this summer.
Isnt that what motivates us all?

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Yes, and gets us through the winter...that and ordering more for spring delivery! ^_^

Hannibal, NY(Zone 6a)

Great picks JoAnn. I don't have Fringed Cloud, but Alpine Majesty and Frosted Plum have been outstanding in my garden. Alpine Majesty is very tall. Greyswood Social Butterfly is new to me this year.

I bet you got them from Ensata Gardens?

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

I did get them from Ensata, had to restrain myself.
