Did we do this yet???
What did you want to buy but didn't get a chance to or had no $ for in 2008??? What's your 2009 wish list???
I think my list is just way too long, but my #1 thing is a tumbler composter. Actually considering asking hubby for it for my b-day.
2009 wish list
My wish is the multi-flowering hyacinths I bought 80 of come up and were worth getting. Van Engelen has them at 40% off tonight. Anyone grow them?
A 25 horse Kubota with a belly mower! Do you think that's too big for Santa's goodie bag?! Ok back to reality!
I'd love a few apple and pear trees. Northern Spy, Gravenstein, Baldwin and Macoun for my apple picks. For the pears: Giffard, Comptesse Clara Frijs, Seckel, Atlantic Queen and Tyson.
Sue :-)
my newest addition is Ceanothus americanus... oh and I just noticed Victor has some photos in the plantfiles... how do you like it Victor?

A mantis. or some form of mini-tiller. And I haven't seen a rose, lily, daylily, iris, or dahlia that I didn't want - alas, not enough room!
NOOOOOOOO Dont start listing plants for 2009
I will be forced to abandon my list and get suckked in -to more stuff.
Here is what I am planning to add.
Anemone honre jobert
Asarum Splendens
Cimifuga Brunette
Echinacia Hot Papya and other reds
Iceland poppies

I must not look at others lists
JoAnn- too funny!!
That's why I didn't post my long list. I have way too much blank space that I need to fill.
Its only November.
When the 2009 catalogues come out with new plants aded to the lines of the four mailorder houses I order from I'm going to go nuts.
I gotta stiffin up and resist. anyone elses lists.
Sherrie, where have I heard that before???
That's Sherrie's perennial wish! Allison - yes I like it. It still has a few flowers on it. It's not a spectacular shrub, but it does provide flowers over a long period and it's native.
I would like a Franklinia tree. Probably one or two more dwarf JM's. And I'd like to finally get to the project I wanted to do two years ago - a bubbling fountain in a large (at least three feet high) oil jar shaped container. This would go along my front walkway.
I have seen the tall jar fountains, they are very welcoming with the sopf tinkling of watersounds.
I got birds at my basalt colum ,it was sweet to see them in July when it was so hot and dry.
Hope you get your wish Victor.
Thanks, Jo Anne!
Come on people. You all know I started with a GH and I had nothing in the virgin yard. Went to Kassias RU and got a ton of plants and put them in a arc or rainbow, from all my friends, in my new little flower garden. Spent some money with rocks, dirt , gas etc. but now I have a little flower garden :-)
Anything perenial will go a long ways and I have such a long ways to go that anything perenial will help!
I am sure you all started on the low end or with nothing. Like me.
there is still research to be done - have scrolled back through the garden photos forum to 13 so far and taken notes of suspects - i'll get to the rest before christmas - witch hazel and three to four jm's are decided on. and now i have to find out what the heck a franklinia tree is?
would love to dig a pond with waterfall or is that waterfall into a stream in a another waterfall into a pond - and have the perfect place for it - do not think it will happen next year. need to look into how expensive it would be.
I'm now planting phony ideas here to keep you honest, Bill...
Read up on it and it meets all your seasons of interest requirements. so don't you be fooling me. Lazy S has it for $17.00 18" tall can survive in zone 5 if protected. Likes moist soil which I have an abundence of down back by the pond. like the fact it is a late summer bloomer with interesting fall color and it is not too big.
I just received in the heavenly bamboo from Lazy S and it arrived in great condition. i say get it now
Moist soil, but good drainage...
Which Nandina - the species - domestica or one of the dwarf ones?
domestica
Nice. I like it a lot. I have not had good success with the dwarf ones. Firepower is a knockout but I lost most of them.
Victor...Have just the place for it and been thinking of getting a Franklinia too. Takes a while to grow though, doesn't it? Looking at any particular vendor from which to order?
Hi David,
Yes, it's not a fast grower, but well worth it. In the spring I will check Fairweather Gardens, Greer Gardens and Forest Farm. Possibly others.
Oh....I see Fairweather has Davidia involucrata. Got one of those tucked away Victor? What do you think of it (if you have one or not)?
The heptacodium you suggested last fall has exfoliating bark already. Very nice. Has some nice twists and kinks in the branches too. Next year it will be a serious tree.
Ha ha - don't have one. It's a very interesting tree and not one that's common. Another slow grower with some picky needs - moist, but well-drained soil and protection from wind. It gets pretty big eventually.
25 to 40 or so feet high. Some sources say slow grower, others moderate.
The particular cultivar offered by Fairweather looks more interesting than the species.
I have a feeling one of us, Victor, is going to own one of those trees next year.
Here is a thread by Kevin_5 who grew a Davidia from Fairweather in Zone 5a:

Hmm - encouraging.
I have a few new echinacea's coming next spring that im excited about:
2 'Tomato Soup'
2 'Fragrant Angel'
2 'Coral Reef'
I recently won these 2 daylilies on the L.A. for spring delivery also. I'm in love with 'Crimson Edging'.

A Euphorbia ~ 'First Blush' and 2 Athyrium Burgundy Lace.
I'd like to get another Viburnum and a few more friut tree's.

Have a mentioned the Great Book of Lists? It is a tome with its own table. Need I say more? But actually this will be a culling year for me. Now that all my seedlings and natives are established my longest lists for 2009 are giveaways to make way for sweeps. Of course dahlias are the exception to this 2009 rule and every rule ^_^
thank you Victor... I read it was good for the humming birds and butterflys... ever see any on yours?
oh yeah if the dahlia tubers don't survive my storage... new ones will be on my list for next year... I was so afraid to cut them up.. just have to wait and see
Sherrie your garden looks great all filled in.
easy/peasy onewish1. I'm totally sure they will be fine. We warmly welcome all dahliaholics to the Dahlia forum whether you have just a few or a bountiful ^_^ and I hang there too. OMG I should be in forum PR. Too bad I'm tied up with my climate transporter. Rocket science, it's a dirty job but .....sigh.
I'm hoping the iris seeds germinate. I do have a new small area on a hill which now has more sun, because some tree branches were removed. Will think all winter.
Sitting on my desktop, I have a little file.
When I see a note or picture of a plant that makes me smile,
I type a short reminder and save it to the list
With thoughts that I might try it (I'm a garden optimist).
But when today I take a peek, with horror realize
It's grown like Topsy to at least ten pages in its size!
Of all the garden tasks to do, the slightest fun is weeding.
But in the future I must prune my wishes whilst I'm reading.
Very good Don!
I'm still thinking about blueberries, really have no room left, unless I remove and replace.
