This is one I got from one of you here... It was either Jan,Nic, or Roxanne... It was in a tiny medicine cup... Should I take her out of the glass?

Here is another trailer and I forget who sent her to me but she is still alive and doing well.
Ok what I would like you all to tell me is what size pots should the few bigger ones be in as some are in a 2 1/2 I think and the bigger one is in no bigger then a 3 inch... also when do I take out of the solo cups and the trailer out of the glass?
Hugs,
Susan

My Goodness Miss Susan ... you've really been bitten by the "Gessie Bug" haven't you? Strep's, Episcia's AV's and Petrocosmea's too! You Grow Girl! I wish I had more patience. I don't think I have one AV alive anymore and my Episcia's are just about gone too, with the exception of three! With me, plants usually have to survive on neglect but I must confess, I've neglected some of them far too much! My Chirita's are growing but need repotting, some are getting long necks. I haven't had blooms in a long time ... think that could be because I never feed the poor things? ^_^ I still have a couple of Micro Mini Sinningia's and they are doing well ... I can just plant them in glass

I don't know what advice to give you on pot size. I always thought they needed to stay in smallish pots unless they were really huge AV's and then I heard it should never be larger than a 6" pot. I would go by the size of the root ball. If it is really overcrowded then move up to one size larger pot. I think the Pet's stay small so those could live in little teeny pots for a long time, maybe forever?

Your plants all look healthy to me. You can get a little paint brush and use it for brushing dust and debris from the leaves! You don't want particles of stuff collecting and clogging their pores.

Rob's Slap Happy is really gorgeous! I LOVE that foliage and Sampson ... what can I say? I love variegated foliage. Now I've got to go google and look for pictures of the blooms.

Susan - I'm going to use numbers to refer to your pix . . . it would just be easier for me right now.

#1 - Looks ok - no need to use bigger pots . . . may consider moving the 2 on the left into smaller pots.

#2 - again, the 2 on the left should probably be in smaller pots. The bigger one looks like it is sitting kinda deep in the pot. Don't know if you can lift it out and add more soil? Then, once you see how the leaves rest, you can determine if it needs a repotting. Sorry, don't know anything about pets - have a few of those I'm trying to figure out what to do with.

#3 - 5, 8, 9 - These look like they could use slightly bigger pots. One thing that may help to remember is a 3:1 ratio - the pot should only be 1/3 the width of the leaf span. Anything smaller should be potted up, anything bigger should be potted down.

#6 & 7 - Should be ok for a bit.

#10 looks like a Tiny Wood Trail . . . I sent you one or two earlier this summer. I would take it out of the glass and put it in a 2" or 2 1/4" pot. That is what mine is in, and it's getting a bit bushy (still waiting for blooms, though!).

#11 could be the Orchid Trail I sent you in August.

WeeBee could stay in the solo cup, if you wanted to take a few of the lower leaves off. If not, then go by what I said about the 3:1 ratio.

WOW! Sally,Those leaves are just beautiful! How do you grow them so large? Is it nature or nuture? I would have room for about one of those, and only if I purged my collection! LOL!

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I just hope some of mine are that size at about 1 year old!

(Zone 1)

I have one Gessie blooming right now, Micro Mini Sinningia pusilla and I notice buds on the Micro Mini Sinn. Rio das Pedras in the bowl to the right.

I have a Nikon D40................my computer tech says that no one needs the D60 or D80 unless they are a professional photographer........I have never even looked at the manual or the CDs that came with with. I just use the flower for close up and automatic for everthing else. (Although the camera will do a lot........I just don't care)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I just realized something that made me kinda sad . . . I placed an order with Violet Venture last week. They ship on Monday & Tuesdays. The order is still 'processing', and tomorrow is a holiday! I may have to wait until next week! :-(

Ellerbe, NC(Zone 8a)

I have a sony Cybershot DSC W-200 It is 12.1 megapixels and says full HD1080. It has face detection and what it calls Double Anti-blur Technology..........Have no idea what all that means. All I know is I just point and shoot the thing; the camera does the rest. I like it 'cause it's super small and can fit in my pocket. What good is a camera if you don't carry it.....right!

See you in a couple days Susan. I just placed a big leaf order from Fay Wagman I'll pick it up at MAAVS.

Phoebesviolets, whatever camera you get make sure it has a macro lense function. That lets you take pictures up close and personal. LOL - as in flower blooms.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Mine has the stabilization thing on it so you never get a blurred picture. It also has an A for action or movement................

Whatever you get...............just get what av_ocd_girl says about the anti blur and macro without changing lenses.........my computer guy who used to be a professional photographer says it doesn't matter about the pixels once you get up to 6..........I don't know anything...........

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Oh, you guys are making me want another camera. I have had the same Sony Cybershot 2.1mp since just about 6 years almost . . .

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

Yes Sally that is the picture and I still think it is beautiful... Your a very pretty lady also ^_^ Nic yup I thought it was you who sent me those two... Remember one died but I saved the other... I am going to take her out of the glass tonight and will also do as you said about down sizing the other in the above pictures. Thank you all so much.... Ok off to play with my babies....
Hugs,
Susan

Linn, your little micro mini sinn is adorable. It looks so pretty in the wine glass. I'm curious about the plant in the av pot on the left. The one with the mottled leaves. What is it?
Sally, you grow the most georgeous plants. Huge and beautiful.
Susan, I hope to have some av babies soon. I received some leaves in a trade from another forum and they've been in pots about 4 weeks so far. And they are still alive.
I'm going to try wick-watering and placing them on a capillary mat.
I've been reading all the old posts and hope I do it right.

(Zone 1)

Imadigger: That's a Chirita, (C. Betty to be exact). I have a few Chirita's. I'm in the middle of finishing cooking dinner right now but later I'm going to make a list of the Chirita's I have and take a picture, none are blooming right now!

Frederick, MD(Zone 7a)

Susan...thanks for sharing your violet pics. My favorites are Sampson and Rob's Slap Happy.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Susan........wow............this thread is moving too fast for me. I missed all your violets. I am jealous as I can only grow streps I think.................but am getting a couple this week and try again with violets.

Palm Bay, FL(Zone 9b)

Linn, the leaves on the C Betty are so pretty. I love leaves that are different.

Danville, VA(Zone 7a)

It is strange but I use to kill every Av I ever owned but now they seem to like me better... I can grow leaves pretty good which shocks me... I don't dome just plant.. I have two babies coming up from ones I put down about a month ago that I got as an extra from a person on ebay... I was in Lowe's tonight and hubby bought me a AV and there were leaves broken off of other plants and I asked if I could take them and they said sure but asked what I was going to do with them... LOL I said try and root them... They said good luck...LOL So I got 3 different leaves...
Jan had sent me a box last week and I was thrilled to get it.. Well tonight my hubby was going to the dump and my MIL said did you take the plants out of the box?? I said what plants...LOLOL Well inside were 4 beautiful Sinns all wrapped up ... Only one was wilted and so glad that my MIL saw them...LOL
Hugs,
Susan
