Miniature Pelargonium "Orion". the whole plant is about 3" tall.
November OT Blooms
loving everyone's pictures.........I was outside cleaning the front porch all afternoon.........hard work.........getting all the webs down, etc............to prepare for winter but it won't be very soon.
I do still have a lot of bougainvilleas still blooming. This is the little storage building where I keep my gardening things...........
Wow Roxanne you sure do grow beautiful flowers...
Hugs,
Susan
YOu know that those of us stuck down in zone 9 who go from summer to winter in a matter of days, hate you for all those beautiful flowers in zone 8. I lived in zone 8 for 7 years and people would stop by my house to look at the flowers. No more..........
I finally have something to share. This is a heurnia macrocarpa var. cerasina aka Dragon Flower. I received this as one little stem cutting about five years ago. It has spread out to five stems. I went out the check on my hoya and I thought there was a dead leaf from another plant in the pot. Was I surprised to find out that it was a flower.
How cool!! Huernias have to be really happy to bloom^_^ Is it stinky?
It's not too bad. It has a very faint smell of garbage.
That's a nice Huernia Eileen! LOL about the faint smell of garbage! I only have one Huernia, the H. schneideriana, common name "Red Dragon Flower": http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/61056/ Mine gets small burgundy/brownish flowers just like that but I've never noticed a fragrance, good or bad. I found a couple of little blooms on my plant a few weeks back but just went out and looked and don't see any now.
Sally--I have that same paph...It bloomed this spring, again. The bloom lasts for weeks, and mine put out 5 blooms on the same spike, one by one. Unfortunately, I did not have a camera at the time. I'll get pics next time--^_^
Now mine bloomed this summer also but it was outside so I did not smell any odor ...
Susan
So pretty Gail! Shefflera is another houseplant up here.LOL---you wouldn't think orchids would be happy in the shade, but they obviously are! With my affinity for plants, I should move south! ^_^
Would anyone like to try some Hitchiker elephant ear (Remusatia vivipara & R. pumila) hitchikers?? These are little bubils (not really sure WHAT they are) these plants make-- that if kept warm and humid turn into little plants. I don't have room this winter to start these and have enough to send a couple people some of each if you want to give them a try, I hate to waste potential babies. These plants are pretty--and fairly expensive to buy. (I just realized there is a price on the tag in the photo-- I paid that for a 4" pot from plant delights several years ago) Mine are going dormant but here is a link to PF for R. vivipara
http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/2111/
JLMK-- and I will get them out next week-- weather permitting.
Hillbilly_gran, I would love some. I've looked for the large elephant leaves here, but only found them on-line. My address is in the address files, or you can d-mail me. Thanks for the offer.
Oh, I would also love a couple of the little bulblettes or whatever they are called! I will gladly reimburse you the postage if you have extra to send! I Love the looks of the photo of the leaf in PF. I notice someone has a photo of one that is humongous so I don't think it's the same one. Info says this one stays small.
I have come to love elephant ears and could kick myself that 30 years ago we cleared tons of them out of our yard and threw them in the trash ... the really big ones!
The R. pumilla does stay small-- the R.vivipara gets pretty big-- and I grow it in a pot--they both goe dormant every year here---these will love your climate!!
btw--gotcha down Lin ^_^
So, is the one you have R. pumilla or R. vivipara? I love the looks of them both. Googled and found this photo of R. pumilla: http://www.centralfloridafarms.com/remusatia-pumilla.htm
I'll be sending both. The bubils in the photo are the ones on R. pumilla-- the R. vivipara are just like those in PF.
Duh ... Don't mind me! This older, bottle blonde is having difficulty concentrating today. I just went back and read your post and you did say both pumila & vivipara. LOL.
Oooh! Look at all those goodies! You must be in Plant Heaven! Do I see a Hoya or two in there? And is that zig zaggy plant in the front left a Ric Rac Orchid Cactus, by chance? And, I think I see another Epiphyllum cutting there, bottom middle too?
After you get all those babies potted up I'd love to see another photo! What a great Buddy you have!
Nice haul! Lots of good things I see in there.
I am indeed in Plant Heaven!! I think there are 5 Hoyas--the plant in front is an Epiphyllum chrysocardum-Fern leaf cactus-- BUT there is a ric rac cactus and several other epi's, rhipsalis, cactus, as well as other succulents, gesneriads, Alocasia,Begonia, Philodendron and a fern. I am thrilled-- my first love was cacti and succulents and I used to grow them exclusively-- I lost most of my collection due to the demands of my former job so I am tickled to be adding some back into the GH. I will take a photo after I get them potted. Great way to spend a chilly day!!
Nice haul,i use to grow succulents too,I kinda miss them, but cant go nuts in two kinds
ill stick with gesneriads for now, dont think ill ever quit growing streps
JIM
Wow! Great plants you received from Laura! Is that a Euphorbia tirucalli there in front? http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/53909/
I think it is Rhipsalis baccifera. I did get several Euphorbias too, but they are not potted up yet. http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/65044/
LOL, I don't know why I didn't think of Rhipsalis. I have a couple of Rhipsalis but can never remember which ones they are.
It DOES look like E. tirucalli--but is floppy not shrubby;)
I loved my pencil cactus when I had it,it got huge,Ive got an orange one now, only its not as orange as it should be,maybe come spring we can swap cuttings,if you want
JIM
Oh Lin.......LOVE the pencil cactus. When I lived in Texas I had one about 5 ft. tall. Left it behind when I moved up north. Only have room for so many plants in the winter months so I had to pick and choose which ones stayed behind. It was a hard decision.
I would love cuttings of the orange Pencil Tree! In Spring, I will have cuttings of the solid green one to anyone who wants them! It's not my favorite plant but the original was given to me by a friend about fifteen years ago. She is always taking cuttings of hers and sticking them right in the ground and they take root. I tried and tried and for some reason never could get them to root. Then I began letting them sit out and callous over a bit and potted them up and they rooted fine.
There's a cultivar listed in Plant Files called "Rosea": http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/go/58092/ Is this possibly the one you have? The common name "Sticks on Fire" sure fits this one ... gorgeous!
