If i ever get up the nerve to mail eggs i will keep you down as wanting some self blues hows that george.
By the way i'm interested in selling my trio in my ground pen 1 roo and 2 hens they are about 1 yearold now.
I'll be looking out my front door waitin to see you drive up my nice long driveway.
BTW don't get afraid you can't see my house from the road i got a story about that.
I had a yard sale and i had one lady say "I couldn't see no house and i was afraid comein up that drive that they might be some ax murders up in here or somethin" LOL!!!

OH NOW THAT IS FUNNY!! SHE WATCHES A LOT OF MOVIES!
Cant be too careful though! hehehe

Well harmony, My drive way is 3000 feet from a little country road and the former owner's put a sign up saying "dogs trained to kill" My hound puppies would help you take anything you wanted! LOL We have a wooden bridge you have to go over to get here and the UPS people will not even come to my house.

I hope you do get the nerve up to ship eggs. I think I saw were we may have a spring egg trade. I lost my little self blue roo Henry in our first cold snap here. I have only one of his daughters left now. I prob don't have any chickens you would want except Turkens(rubber necks) or BLRW. Those are the only 2 breeds I'm isolating to use as breeders.
George
Oh, I will have guineas. I have 6 colors, but they all run together. I might also have some peafowl also. Can you tell I really like your blues???

(Zone 7b)

Yes George i can tell you like my blues and they are pure self blue. I deal with alot of breeders and i never as i call it "muddy up my genetics" i only do the crosses as porcelain x millie gets me millie and porcelain i have several of crosses i make. I want to breed some Blue Quail this year which is Quail x Blue Splash. Oh i got in trouble for not Saying "quail chickens"

I will see about tradeing eggs or selling eggs right now i'm fixin to set my incu. My self blues aren't laying now and with these unpredictable high strung bantys i never know when they will start.

I actually have 2 kinds of self blue the show variety (small) and some i got that are bigger than those a man i know breeds them but they are too big for show.

Hi, I'm Rachel. I have three hens; Henrietta, Harriet and Chicken Little and one rooster, Roosty. I raised them in my heated greenhouse. I got them as chicks back in October (I know the worst time to raise chicks!) They are all feathered out and have been coming out during the day for the past week and a half. I made them a makeshift coop yesterday but they did not want to go in it. I put nesting boxes, a perch, and thier food and water in it. They decided to roost on the fence instead so we ended up picking them off the fence and putting them back in the greenhouse for the night. Any ideas on how I can convince them to go into thier new home to roost at night? Here are a few photos. This one is of Henrietta (red, black, green, multi) and Roosty (grey)

welcome rachierabbit and fellow Washingtonian!

Good looking little flock you have there! I love the colors and the little tuft.

Once you have a coop and run that you want to teach them that this is their home. You'll probably have better luck confining them to it for a few days (some will say two days is fine, others may say upwards of a week or more is necessary). Chickens are very routine oriented, so once they have been confined for a few days they will reprogram and think of the new space as their home. Keep in mind that if they are laying when you do this, they may stop for a bit while they adjust.

Best of luck and I look forward to chatting more with you on the other threads!

Thanks for the warm welcome! Kristin thanks for the tip, I will try wrangling them in thier this evening! I need my greenhouse back to start seeds in! The plants I put in thier to overwinter have had any remaining leaves picked off them by my little cuties!

Welcome Rachie! Is their new coop much like a hidey hole? I'm temporarily housing a fellow DGer's chickens and they did not like their new digs until I put a lean-to across the opening so that I couldn't see in...Once they could hide from me it was much more attractive -even though I didn't pester 'em one bit!!

Olympia, WA(Zone 7b)

When I let them out of the greenhouse this morning they went right into thier new home, since the food was in there! Guess not having anything to eat for a few hours this morning changed thier tune. So for the past few hours they have been settling into thier new digs. I will take a few pics when I go back outside (eating lunch right now) and post them tonight.

Great! The way to their coop is though their stomaches? I smell a proverb...

Here is the front of the new temporary coop. This spring my dad and I are going to build them a nice permanent coop. I have been getting ideas from the "Tour de Coop - Let's see them" thread.
