This yard needs it!
Most of the time I hear Californians complain when it rains. We gardeners know much better than that! What a blessing! It rained for about 10 minutes this morning - and it smelled SO good! If it doesn't rain again today, I'll have to water the lawn. It is looking mighty gray though!
Woo-hoo!
Jeff
Hooray for Rain!!!
No fair! We didn't get a drop down here. Don't know where the cooling trend is, either, as it's still pretty warm. Looks like you have a very nice garden going there, Jeff.
You got rain??!!! That does it....I have to move North at least as far as Pasadena......
I know, it stinks, doesn't it? Either the darn monsoons go over us to AZ, or the rain stops north of us. If SoCal drops in and says it rained at her place, I'm really getting mad!
It's awfully dark here, just had a pretty shower and it looks like more headed this way, But funny how warm it is...81 degrees and I have my fireplace going! Am I overanxious or what??!?!
Aaaaah, rain is coming? I got wetter from hosing down the exterior walls and scaring all the spiders out into the open than I did in the rain falling. And it's 70 degrees under our overcast skies. Ummm, weegy12, methinks that a fireplace going with outside temps at 81 degrees is a little over the top . . . just a bit, tho. LOL
That's me Twin, always over the top! Ask amy of my friends here, they'll all agree! Yup, blonde too!!!!!
Huzzah! Another drenching downpour here around 3:30! I sat on the front porch and just smiled and smiled. My lawn looks terrific right now (though as ever it could use a cutting). No watering for me today!
To those of you without rain, I wish you a downpour soon!
Jeff
Well, we'll get it soon Jeff if you just got it.
Forecast says we might get a shower tonight and maybe tomorrow (maybe, shmaybe), then another system moving in next week. We've got some very pretty clouds here and the mountains look dark, but it's dry as a bone.
We're going out to celebrate anyway - it's our anniversary! Don't forget to turn the clocks back tomorrow!
HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Kathleen and John. Wonderful....how long????
Yup, the skies are very threatening here now and it's cooled down which makes the fire seem so much more practical.
Yes it sure has Linda.
Had a great dinner on the patio at a local Mexican restaurant - nice breeze - and when we left the clouds were clearing and we could see stars. grrrrr Good grief, our a/c just went on!

Television annotation from National Weather Service at this moment:
SEVERE STORM WARNINGS: Thunder, lightning, strong winds and large hail are currently pounding Tulare County in Central California and in effect until 8:15 p.m. Up to 2 feet of snow is expected tonight from Yosemite to Kings Canyon National Parks, down to 7500 feet. Travel along the crest of the Sierra Nevadas from Yosemite to the Kern County line is expected to be hazardous through 10 a.m. tomorrow.
It is raining lightly here at this moment.
My girl, Olivia, exceedingly sensitive to thunder/lightning storms, a cave-seeker at such moments, has been pacing for the past 20 minutes. I expect she is hearing our approaching storm.
Thanks, SoCal, for sending it our way!

It's been raining here off and on today, and right now we're having a LOVELY squall! Wish I'd gotten my lawn patch cut, but so be it.
Oh, I'm so jealous....I doubt if we'll get a drop.
The rain has been coming down almost without letup since Friday night here. I couldn't even go as far as the mailbox in front of my house today without getting soaked. The combination of the rain and strong winds on Friday night filled the garden with tree branches. To think I was spending three hours a day watering just last week...
TREE BRANCHES??? Geez!
Yep, fir and black walnut, but it was mostly dead wood that had been stuck up there until the wind blew it free.
You guys are just bragging! I must be living in some kind of kharmic vortex where we're doomed to never see rain again.......
I went out yesterday while it was raining and washed my already-wet windows & stuff with that Windex hose-end cleaner so the rain would rinse them off (trying to conserve water). We had so much smoke & ash debris from the fires over the summer that the soap suds turned black. This morning I can actually SEE through my screens!!! We've gotten a couple more little storms this morning, but there are bits of blue, too.
I swear my little patch of new sod is 2 inches taller than it was on Friday!
We were beginning to think it would NEVER rain again, so this rain was so welcomed! It was absolutely erie this year - no measurable rain since February or March. I planted 65 plants in the backyard two weekends ago - nice when my fall planting scheme falls into place - ie. plant when the heat is waning & let nature water... Hope it reaches our southern neighbors soon!
Liz
We are supposed to get a couple of showers this AM, but we'll see. Doesn't look nearly as threatening as yesterday!
It is finally raining here this morning!!! Yippee. We didn't get a drop of rain yesterday or last night. It started about 45 min. ago and has been really gentle...LOVE IT!!
I didn't water for the last 2 days since they said we would have this rain, so when I woke up this morning and it was dry outside, I was getting alittle pissy with the weatherman again. lol
I sure hope it stays gentle like this all day and soaks the ground nicely. I have plenty to do in the house and garage to keep me busy today. DH has to work his new Part time job from 11-8 today, so I can get a lot done. :-)
I hope all of you are getting this today also.
Donna
Thunder, lightning and a good downpour here last night. It's nice for a change, I miss the sun. Today is cloudy and chilly, good time to work in the garden and finish some fall cleanup. Off I go!
wcgypsy -take heart! Santa Ana is in that vortex also, but we are getting some very light rain now. Maybe it will move south by tonight.
Do you suppose people in other parts of the country call every one they know at the first sign of lightning? That's better than 4th of July!
Carol
Still dry as a bone here. :-(
It rained all day yesterday here and everything is looking so sparkly. I love the first rain of fall. We were supposed to get 1.5 inches over the weekend. We may get more tonight. It was nice of it to put off rain until after Halloween though.
we finally got rain on this side of the bay too! (hasnt rained here since...feb?)
and boy did it dump on us! lol! not sure how much rain fell....but I had to wade out in big puddles last night to lock up the chickens! lol! My garden LOVED it! lol! chickens...not so much! they were all huddled up in their coop trying to stay dry! bad momma here didnt get the door closed fast enough! lol!
Okay, we got a bit....first nice, cool, Fall day so we went to the Wild Animal Park and it rained some. Still, I love just seeing the sky full of clouds and shadows on the mountains. I think we need to get really serious down here about a raindance.
You got rain? waaaaaaahhhhhhhh!!!! We felt a few drops of mist, and that was it. Or did you mean the area in general? We could almost see it falling over at the coast and really thought we would get some. Nope, clouds went all around us. The sun was hot, too! Was really hoping for a shower or two - I have plants to get in the ground and the cord for the jackhammer doesn't go that far!
Was cloudy, cool, raining some at the Animal Park...sun very, very briefly came out and was hot and we were starting to get quite annoyed about it then it went away...I haven't felt this good since last winter...lol....
We got lots of rain Friday, Saturday and today(Monday). It feels so good. Everything is washed clean.
Linda in N.CA.
yep, rained here AGAIN today! right in the middle of my weeding and fall clean up! grrr!
DGranddaughter's soccer game was cancelled on Saturday and then practice was called off today because of rain! If it's light rain they usually go ahead and play in it but I'm happy to see so much rain. It would be even better if it were feeding the snow pack but I'll take what I get.
This is going to make a mess of my commute home. Pouring and windy right now.
Did I mention I hate this time change.
I forgot to mention I'm in Berkeley (at work).less than a mile from the bay. Don't know what its doing at home.

It just started here, so it must be moving south.....
Bah, Humbug......
Clouds overhead at 4 p.m. today were flowing from the south. Spitting on the commute home at 5:30. S'posed to rain tonight.
