Garden Photos - Part 42

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Victor the tree was a spruce I think. I'm not good at conifer id's
The birds are sure confused. There will be a wonderful perennial garden there and the trunk spot will be a place to put an container garden.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

And so begins the time of the cold and the dark...... on the up side, only 6 1/2 weeks until spring when we begin to plan for the 'Festival of the Wakening of the Dahlias' ^_^

I have a bunch of 3 year old norway and blue spruce babies I have been pampering, about a foot tall, if you want a small, manageable replacement spruce, Jo Ann

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Oh, you got all that snow already, dn?? Only 6 1/2 weeks to spring?!! I want your calender!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

First snowfall last night Victor. I did a dance of joy since we've been so dry the last couple of months. The first day of spring occurs when the sun starts coming back. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Beautiful shots, everyone! Love those arrangements, Deb! Also, I didn't know that primroses rebloom in the fall.......guess mine could be doing that but I'd never know since I abandon them. LOL (Guilt, guilt!)

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

I get depressed with our short days.... I would need meds if I lived by you Dahlianut.... don't know how you do it

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

I agree with you completly Onewish, I would need meds as well to live there!

Jan, I sure hope that you feel better soon. That's no fun. Tis the season. I'm so hoping to avoid it as much as possible. 12 hour drive is just way too much. I'll almost refuse to do that. I did drive like that when I made a cross country trip from here to Tennessee in slightly less than 5 days. Would've been a little shorter if weather hadn't set records. But, I really don't want to do something like that again unless I have to .

Dahlia.... how deep does the snow usually get for you? Christmas Valley in Oregon is zone 3a or b (some say colder than that, but I think that their exaggerating because they freeze their you-know-whats by not being prepared). Anyhow, it's get really cold there and they have snow. But, all in all they get less snow there than here because it snows for 3 or 4 days and then doesn't unthaw for three months.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

We rarely get more than 3 good snowfalls in a winter. We are in a drought. I will be watering into December and starting again in February. When it does snow it never stays, evaporates poof in a Chinook. You will note all the remaining foliage I have left in the garden. This will help shade the ground to retain as much moisture as possible when it does snow/rain. I will be adding leaves on top of that this weekend for the same purpose. I refer to it as my messy garden method LOL.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Thats a lot of work but worth it.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

We average 100 inches of snow here.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Lucky, lucky you. I prefer snow over the 'dead brown look' we've been having for the last few years. We used to get so much snow sigh. I'm working on a transporter so we can exchange conditions as needed. This idea come up with some DG buddys in IA this summer. I may be asking for volunteers to transport snow once I get the kinks worked out.

aka rocket scientist

Now thats my type of idea! Why cant we just get the aliens to do the work!

WOW Victor its almost too much to take in.Glorious is not adaquit.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you, Jo Anne. That's what my wife said when she first met me. Hee hee!

Buffalo, NY(Zone 6a)

That is a particularly spectacular show you have going on there, Victor!

Jo Ann is right, words do not suffice.

Thanks for all your hard work!!!!! and esp. for letting us in!

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Just beautiful Victor!! I think i'd like sitting in your livingroom.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thank you all!

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

undoubtedly, i agree with everyone else here. If I didn't know enkianthus I would swear that I needed to adjust the 'brightness' setting on my monitor! the needles fell off of my metasequoia 3 weeks ago. But, to the flip side, it is a pretty young tree still.

Debilu, that too much snow!! I prefer to drive up into it if I want to see that much of it! However, your sunny days with all of that snow would be absolutely beautiful.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

KERPLUNK! That was me keeling over from the sheer beauty. AWESOME!

central, NJ(Zone 6b)

Quoting:
That's what my wife said when she first met me

Oh brother......

Great pics, though

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Debilus 100 inches is a conservative estimate , further north of us the snow fall is so heavy they need highway equipment snow blowers to make paths down the streets. There are red flags put at crossroads so people can tell its an intersection, drifts are higher than the cars, many houses get burried and barns collaps. The snow belt is just awfull.Glad I live here.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Ha! Dahlianut has it easy. I have a sister who lives in Central, AK, about 140 miles north of Fairbanks. Talk about cold and dark in winter. But on the brighter side, they get 24 hours of daylight around summer solstice. And they can grow huge veggies there.

Beam me up, dahlianut!

Victor, those colors in your yard are amazing. I know I've said that before, but I'm saying it again, just in case you haven't heard enough from all your other fans here. He, he!

Karen

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Thanks, ladies. I appreciate it!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I almost got my sunglasses, it was sooo bright!!! Ditto to what everyone else said.

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

yeah what Jan said

;)

South Hamilton, MA

Scads of leaves dropped last night, although the tulip tree still has some. So color is becoming brown.

Halifax, MA(Zone 6a)

Yes, tons of leaves have dropped here, too. We got lots of rain last night and today. Lots to clean up again.

Flowerjen, That quote was priceless. rotflol. I didn't see it when Victor first said it, so I had to figure out what was going on. Thanks, I needed that.

southern willamette , OR(Zone 7a)

well, if anyone wants to see how it's been going over here the last few days, weatherwise. Click the link and check out the last few posts that I made, which are at the end of the thread (at least at the time that I made this link :-p ) http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/915791/

Nothing much, just not what I was expecting.

Thanks again. I thought your area was the ideal weather place, Shelly!

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

just planted bulbs (200) last week
40 anemone blanda
30 tulips
30 dwarf narcissus Petrel
6 asiatic lilies
plus fritillaria
allium Molly Jeneanne
The squirrls are naturalizing as we speak.
I have covered as many areas of bulbs with carpenters wire.
Dang those pesky things.
There were two squirls here all summer, now there are ten. Do they have a network?

Just one heck of a reproductive system.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

You planted a buffet for them.

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Id like the naturalizing if they would only plant at the proper depth.

Pepperell, MA(Zone 6a)

victor - nice color! keep showing those group shots so i get the mirror image correct here:)

Speaking of squirrels......Look at this one I got a shot at today..... I have about 10 pictures of it!
