You can have my family. I dad just past away after being sick for 3 years, mom and I cared for him with very, very little help form my sister or brother. I had not heard from my two nephews for over a year. I have aunts, uncles and cousins most of which are crazier than I am. Christmas has been a pain for almost 10 years, I have reached the point that I would throw my whole family away.
Enough of the sad lets party we have some wonderful cute little lifes to celebrate. I have about a ton of candy.
Commander Moxon's Nankin Hatch
It is just me, my dad , one cousin and my two sons.
We had a thread awhile ago about the invasion of the Asian Ladybeetles. There are interesting sites on them.
Just Chatin Wren we do that alot here and it helps sometimes to just tell somebody how you feel.
I know. I do not like to let off the steam to much or to often. A the not about lets celebrate is mostly to me. but I understand and feel that those here on DG are closer to me than my own family. (still a little bitter about family.)
I never really had any problems with family, although one of my male cousins is into sewing his own outfits in spandex, which is a bit odd, but to each their own. When I get together with Kelly's family, I'm glad mine is small and "normal"! LOL!!!
Whats normal???
Well, nobody fights in our family. Nobody has ever been arrested. Nobody has sordid stories about drunken parties or lecherous affairs or horrible divorces or problem children. Nobody rants and raves, nobody drinks too much, nobody is impolite or rude or difficult to take out in public. Everybody is British except me (cuz I'm Canadian) but I grew up in a British family so I am similar to them. We are just polite and friendly and generally quiet and nobody belches at the table or laughs too loudly. At the holidays my parents and I do huge jigsaw puzzles and large difficult crosswords. We hug a lot and share memories and stories. My parents dance around the living room to Strauss waltzes and I take pictures. There are no snotty nosed noisy children running around and breaking things. It is quiet and peaceful. My mother and I bake together and in the spring when my parents visit me here, we work on my garden and we visit nature sanctuaries and go for nice dinners or wine tastings and we go to the symphony. We all listen to NPR-type of radio (they listen to the Canadian equivalent) and we read National Geographic and gardening magazines and my Dad and Kelly read woodworking magazines. We all talk about the environment and the importance of sustainable living. We have gentle debates from time to time, but they are not yelling matches. They are polite discussions in which we present viewpoints that may differ, but we all respect each other. My mother and I like to go shopping at Coldwater Creek when she comes here to visit. My Dad likes to go to the Apple Computer store and play with the latest software and gadgets. We all go for an ice cream at the Cold Stone Creamery afterwards. My Dad and I talk about the financial markets and wise investments and my Mom and I talk about gardening and cooking and she always worries that I try to do too much. Every time I talk to them I tell them I love them and they tell me the same. When I go home to Halifax, we drive around to look at places I used to go and we go to my old favourite restaurants and we walk along the harbourfront and talk about times gone by. I help them with their garden or home projects and we go for walks with their dog.
These are the kinds of things we do and this is how my family is and that's what I think of as "normal" which is probably very different to everyone else's normal, but that is what makes it my family!
That sounds lovely. Would you like to adopt a crazy southerner?
Wow i want to be you!!!
I don't think any one in my whole family is normal. A few are certified nuts, and most of the rest should be. I will say many are fun to be around. But I have little in common with them any more. And as many of the cousins now have grandchilds the mob is a little to much to be around.
You are both, of course, welcome anytime! But you have to be polite and reasonable and not turn into the crazy family member that we don't presently have. LOL!
Some of my previous boyfriends have called Christmas at my parents' house "boring" because it is too quiet for them. Amazingly enough, they're not my boyfriends any more!
It would be my pleasure!
Does not sound boring to me , we use to have nice family get togethers but things change.
You would not believe this On this thread I am talking family and on the other we are talking about the different types of manure? I am most get the two mixed up.LOL
Manure and family sometimes that doe's go together:) LOL
I will not touch that one.
ROTFL....so true!
Back up folks! I am Claire's sister. I want to be the crazy relative that rants about politics and chugs bourbon on the rocks at family functions. And I have 2 snotty nosed kids that can break plenty of stuff.
Claire - please tell then that I am your sister and stop all the denial and daydreaming of the perfect family life. I can't believe that you would tell people you were an only child, LOL
Sheila (Claire's younger and crazier sister)
Hows are those cute little critters doing?
Please do not let me stay up till 1am. Talking on three forum, watching Ghost Hunters, and playing games on the laptop all at the same time left my brain fried.
Well since i been kicked out of the family by sheila guess i'll go borrow grows rock:(
Oh poor thing. I have no rocks but you could borrow a few large leave down here. Only thing they are wet right now.
I will be back later DM wants to go for a drive.(translate I drive she sleeps.LOL)
lol. Have a nice drive.
Oh no Harmony I think that we can both be sisters, I just wanted first dibs on being the crazy one. You have to be the nice one who tries to smooth things over all the time. I have played that roll for too long and want a chance at the crazy side.
Sheila
can I be the sis that attracts all the drama.
OH Moxon, that's sounds wonderful to me. I am also from an English family background and we are the same way. Not my crazy upstate NY husband. His family is Irish and loud and a bit vulgar at times. When I first met him 15 yrs ago, he pretended to be soft spoken and polite.Ha! He tricked me.
I have gotten used to it now and it seems normal.
Ah hah! My cyber sisters come crawling out of the woodwork!
Sheila, you are more than welcome to be the crazy cyber-sister, although you will have to work harder on the crazy angle because you sure didn't seem very crazy at Jacob's Cave. I think you are a delightful family member!
Harmony, you are my sensible and wise sister who is a voice of reason and a calming influence upon all the other cyber sisters. If it weren't for you, they would just go a little bit too crazy sometimes.
Luvs, you are the dramatic cyber-sister (whether it's because you attract it or if you want to be dramatic yourself) and I need to check with sister Harmony and Sheila to see if you are OK.
InnBetween - you are the calm and collected cyber-sister who has the crazy husband. All the other cyber-sisters must tolerate him but we do so because we love you and you're our cyber-sister. We try to convince everybody to sit down for a spot of tea and a scone from time to time.
What a happy family! :-)
he he he I think I am ok now.
i must be the chopped liver sister
some peace and civility. ahhhhhhhhhh, that sounds wonderful..
Jordankittyjo - of course not! You are the buckwheat pancake sister!!!
well that makes me feel alot better!
Substitute the Strauss waltzes for family sing-alongs and we have a pretty good match. 3 part HARmony.
row row row your boat.................
I was thinking more of traditional Christmas carols right now, but you have a point. The rounds come at the end of the summer sings.
jingle bells jingle bells ................
We listen to CDs of Medieval Christmas songs.
I am listening to Oriental music right now. Would like to hear the Medieval Christmas songs.
Just Like Walmart Rushing Christmas and by the time it gets here you can't wait for it to be over cause you have had to see and hear it since Halloween.
I listen to Irish Music,Jazz,Classical i like most anything but rap it's to violent and vulger.
Wren - you might enjoy the Medieval Baebes. They are very interesting - not just Christmas.
I would suggest the Christmas Revels for the medieval Christmas stuff.
I like Twelve Girls Band for oriental music!
