Last Day down the Jersey Shore

Marlton, NJ

This is going to be a rather long thread so I'll try to do it in stages.

My first stop was the point in Stone Harbor. Here's a scene looking southbound out to the ocean.

The birds I can't identify myself I'll put numbers on so Resin can put the names to them later.

Keep them coming!

The ocean was very rough and my tripod and I got caught by suprise as the waves would come in geting us wet. I had to stand a little farther away from the water which caused a problem with the sun but can't do much about that.

Thanks maggie, Sunday was a beautiful day there.

Next stop was the Wetlands Institute in Stone Harbor. I wish I would have gotten a shot of the building as it's quite beautiful. Here is some group of unknowns at the first pond.

As I walked along the trail that is actually a boardwalk that goes out over the meadows I was met with some very friendly little birds unknown to me because I haven't had time to look them up.

As I was standing there I heard a lot of commotion behind me and a large group of Boat-tailed Grackles had come in right behind me on the dock. Here's one with a crab. These are a new bird for me.

Looks like you had a great day out pelle! Those Oystercatchers had their eyes on you! The last little one looks very sweet!

It's turned cold here too, only 44F today with frost to 28F in the greenhouse last night, think it will be colder tonight. Some places had snow too!

My gosh! By the last little guy I meant #7, lol.

Okay I'm taking a little break now. Next stop is Cape May.

Thanks wallaby, it was 62 there on Sunday but now its gotten quite raw out.

They've now anounced they'll cancel the world series again tonight.

Golden, MS(Zone 7a)

Dear Wallaby, sounds like you should be Aussie but you know your birds. The birds here in the Deep South are a little slow arriving esp., one of my favorites, the red-breasted grosbeak. I've sunflower seed out for them as they devour them for their trip to the Neo tropics. My hope this year is to have oodles of Evening Grosbeaks as we did last year. They are not always as predictable but loved the juniper berries. Hope to talk to you soon and allow you to impart some of your wisdom to me. Lee

Okay I'm back from my break, lol.

Here we are at Cape May Point State Park. Here is the lighthouse behind the parking lot. You can also see the double viewing platform (Hawk Watch) with a number of people on it.

On the beach. I think this is an old military building that was used in WW2. At least that's what I'm told.

These birds are sweet looking, I'll need an ID on them please.
