Ok here goes. I am going to try to list everything that I know I have. This time I am going to leave off the description. Will save my pore finger. List of what I have
Looks like I will have my greenhouse in 3 weeks. Not looking forward to moving all those pots. My have a few broken pieces, will let y'all know.
Anyone out there have "Going Bananas"? this is one I would like to have.
Sandy the epi nut (I am looking at 9 more cuttings someone please stop me. I have no will power!!!!)
Sandy,
My collection is not nearly as extensive as yours, but I know how you feel!!!
Sarah
As they grow I will be happy to share. It is fun to get more people hooked!!!!! LOL
Sandy the epi nut
Thanks! Although I think I'm already hooked. I've never grown epi's before and now that I have room to, I thought I'd like to try. So, I bought a plant. Then 6 cuttings, then two more cuttings (all of which I have to root). Then I went to a plant swap and someone gave me another one. So, since you've obviously had a lot of experience, how do you suggest I root them?
Thanks.
Sarah
I am still experimenting, just do not let them get to wet. I have found a piece laying on the ground rooting by it self.
Sandy
So this disease spreeds , I just have 4 orchad cactus. Hum My green house just needs the shelves then I am good to go.LOL
So many plants so little time.
Lavina
Amen!!! Warning it spreads fast. Of course in my case in has festered for years. I do not have a computer until 2 years ago so was unable to find sellers after the mail order place I get my first ones from stopped shipping.
Also up date removing Irette from the list-this was one that the squirrels played with when I finally found it it was pretty dried out.
Sandy the epi nut
So Sandy, Have you decided I can have one of each yet? LOL. my family would institutionalize me I am afraid.
Wow, impressive collection!
I got my first epi 3 years ago from someone here on DG when I toured her garden, no ID. The second, also a NOID one from the neighbor across the street. A few more given to me from another friend and then I got a few off eBay. Only three have bloomed, the first two and Tele. I am so hopping for something more next year, I hate not having my own pictures in my Journal!
My Journal lists the ones I have.
http://davesgarden.com/community/journals/vbc/Calif_Sue/62953/
I do get carried away. I think it is hereditary, my DD had a large collection of tools, always buying more.. And back when I did crafts I would end up with a ton of materials. At least the epis are out side. And my family just shake their heads and go about their own collections. Sense the price of the cuttings are from 2-12 and shipping is low it is not a expensive passion-not like orchids.
Most where bought this year so I am waiting for flowers too. I stay off eBay just buy for the two sites that I in another thread. I have a number of seedlings-found out it takes 7+- years to get to blooming size. I will be happy to spread the disease as mine grow big enough.
I hope to have my green/shade house built by the end of next month it will be 10x8 so will have plenty room for growth.
Sandy the epi nut
I buy from Don Cravalho of Epiphyllum World. He sells off his site but also eBay. I have met him a couple of times and he gave me a tour into his greenhouses a back in June, nice guy and quality stuff, good reputation too. I got to hear of him through the EpiForums.
http://www.epiphyllumworld.com/Epiphyllum_World/Welcome.html
He does have a few I like, I have ordered a catolog.
I buy mostly from Got epis and Epi Galleria both have great cuttings at a good price. Both have sent me free cuttings. Got epis? runs out fast so you have to be very watchful for new cuttings. He also sells seeds and books.
Sandy the epi nut
Here's what I'm rooting for my new humble epi collection so far lol~ no cuttings can be taken yet but I hope to trade later on:

Lady Ruffles
Mandarin Lady

and @ 20 noids that my grandmother gave me lol.

Linda
I see some I do not have.
Lets keep this list going.
Sandy the epi nut
This is better than any toy store I ever imagined. LOL
I agree I hope more people add their list on here. I see a number of epis already that I would like to trade for next year. And I will know what not to buy until I can see about trading first.
Come on people add your list.
Payday is next week, any one want to make a bet? Will I have the will power to not buy any epis or will I be weak? If I am weak how many will I buy? Will I or want I. That is the question.
I have a moon plant but I am so interested in getting started with some of these epis.
Starter plants available here?
Keep on the look out. I will be building my green/shade house in the next week. And when I move things there is always broken off pieces. Also I can take a few more cuttings off the epi oxy.
What do you mean by "moon plant"?
Sandy the epi nut
It 's leaves are flat and strapy kind of like the thornless cactus, with a rik-rak edge. It blooms at night with a large white bloom, no scent.
I get's you. a Ric-rac. Would you be interested in a Epiphyllum oxypetalum? If you are d-mail me you address and I will mail you a couple of its cuttings(I have more of this plant than I need)
Sandy the epi nut
I bet you go and buy at least one more LOL!
I am wondering if I should bring mine inside and root them under lights. The nights are okay right now but I am wondering if they would root better inside. I have a shelf with lights indoors that I always start all my brugmansia seedlings in during the winter months so I could put them there.
If I put epies under grow lights, how far should they be from the light?
Oh yeah, I was gonna tell you that if you order cuttings from some of the reputable sellers like Don Cravalho (ebay) he gives you 2 for 5.99 etc. Last time he gave me another free one. If we do this all winter we will have extras to trade with :P (enabling here LOL)
I have never grown them under plant lights but I would not put them to close as the need shade out side. I think I have a catalog ordered from him. Some of the others give extras when they have them I ended up with 4"Eden"
And you are right I will buy at least one to replace one that I lost. But before I do I will check with this thread.
If any of you are interested in Christmas cactus or easter cactus I just received an order from directgardening.com. I ordered several and I was amazed at the plants I received. They have great root systems and some have buds. They look great. I will order from them again. Just thought I would pass it on. Linda
I will go check it out thanks.
Sandy the nut
I checked it out and he has one color that I do not have.
Also I have decided to buy some more of the dragon fruit plants. Do they count??? Oh well no will power.
I have seen some on the list that some of y'all have posted that I am interested in. Hope to be able to trade next year.
Sandy the epi nut. ps: I am off to look at more epi's!!!!!!
I checked out directgardening.com because I have had a hard time finding vendors of schlumbergeras, but was disappointed to find they only offered 4 colors. The yellow one sounds interesting though, and you can't beat their prices. I did find a website in the Netherlands that has a huge variety, but you have to pay importing fees, etc, and I am not sure I want to undertake importing plants at this time. Although I would love to find a US vendor with a decent selection. Any suggestions?
Thanks.
Sarah
I thought the problem with the importing fees would make it much too restrictive for me. Maybe if we all got together and did a co-op or something we could split the fees, but I couldn't order enough on my own to make it worth my while.
Sarah, Which colors are you interested in? There is another mail order nursery that has a lot of schlumbergera, but I will have to search to find the names again.
Here is a link to one website that I found. I truly didn't know there were so many varieties of these. LOL http://whittongreenhouses.com/mailordervarieties.htm
Well, I'm off to plant those I got in the mail yesterday. If I don't plant them now, I'll just go shopping and forget.
See you Later. Linda
Sandy, Which color did you not have? I got 2 of each, We can trade for something.. Dmail me. Linda
I do not have the tangerine. The Hirts greenhouse web site has all the colors except that one.
I have 3 different reds, salmon, orange, pink, yellow, white, and fuchsia.
www.bobsmoley.com has a good selection over 40 to chose from. I have not ordered from this site but I think I will get a few more this month
Sandy the epi nut
Uh, that last link takes to a rat, rodent, mole and varicose veins link! Odd combo wouldn't you say?! Not a plant in site.
Sorry about that it is I left a "s" off
bob smoley's garden world web site www.bobsmoleys.com
Ah, LOL, much better! I had looked at his site not too long ago for a hard to find haworthia I want.
That one goes on my want list!!!!!!! One week till pay day!!!!!
Yes indeedy!
I think I better in large my plans for that green/shade house!!!!!!!!
Darn I already have a large order of christmas cactus and epis for smoley's and I saw that they will have the easter cactus in the spring. Did I say I was going to build 2 green/shade houses????
