The Gnomes Visit the Nation's Capital

Havelock, Canada

Wow. Those lads sure got a wonderful tour. I think that Bullwinkle is gonna be a challenge when he comes to Havelock. How can little old hickville compare to the country's capital city?

I have their room ready, now to convince Otis that these fellas don't want to be nibbled on. LOL. It is going to be fun and I am really looking forward to them visiting. Heck, after raising my children I just need to dust off my mothering skills and keep a close eye on that dare-devil Bullwinkle.

I know that they are coming with all kinds of stories to share with me. Should be very interesting to sit and have a good chat with them and hear their take on their whirlwind tour. If only that Bullwinkle will sit long enough without wiggling.^_^

Hope you continue to enjoy the threesome while they are with you in Ottawa. Maybe you can give them some quick music lessons while they are with you. One of them may surprise you and have hidden musical ability that has been untapped until now. Have fun!

Hugs

Elaine, you will definitely have to dust off the mothering skills, let me tell ya. I had to do the same. Great idea about the music lessons - Ann, do you have any teeny-tiny violins? :-)

Here is a pic I snapped of Ann scolding Bullwinkle as he was clambering up the fence at the Prime Minister's Residence.

LOL! What a scalawag he is! The smallest violin I have is 1/8th size. Probably too small for my grandtwins now yet too big for the lads. I'll have to see what I can do.

The lads are now settled down for the night. thought you might like to see what they did today, but compared to yesterday it was pretty tame. We certainly picked the right day to tour Ottawa because today it was cold and rainy. Here they are peering out of my front window.

Jerome seemed quite content to sit under this Christmas Cactus (or Easter Cactus?) which always blooms at this time of year just after I bring it in from the screened porch.

Bullwinkle and Dave were happier under this one which is not quite blooming yet.

All three were happy to sit with the snow man. Maybe tomorrow they'll get a chance to try out real snow.

And they liked the Polar Bear family which lives at the back of my sofa. Polar Bears are a recurring theme in my house.

They also checked out the African Violets in another window and gently reminded me that I need to tend to them a bit more often to remove dead blooms.

Here they are checking out my Hibiscus. The Hibiscus has just been brought in from outside and is dropping leaves like crazy because of the change in light levels. They were concerned, but I assured them that it does this every year and it will be fine in time.

I had an adult violin student this morning and here they are watching the lesson.

When I practiced a bit they hopped into my viola case. They like the soft plush lining.

I let them study the music a bit. They were quite intrigued, but Jerome refuses to let go of those flowers he's holding and Dave has this problem with his finger. Bullwinkle, well - hooves don't work well on the violin; so I don't think I'll be giving them lessons on violin.

This afternoon it stopped raining for awhile and we went outside for a short time. Not for long though because they don't have coats yet. Here they are surveying the remains of my front garden.

There's not much colour left. Even these Mums are past their prime.

The Hostas have turned golden or disintegrated, but this bit of Sedum has a nice red to it.

I went shopping this afternoon and got some fabric for capes and some groceries. They are eating me out of house and home! I didn't take them along because they didn't have warm enough clothing and also because I wasn't sure I'd be able to handle Bullwinkle all on my own in the huge grocery store.

Tomorrow we will visit the pool where I do aquafit. Not for the exercise, but to have coffee with the ladies afterwards. Then I'll take them to the Food Bank of which I was executive director until I retired and at which I still volunteer on Wednesdays.

Loved your Christmas Cactus, violets and other inside plants, Ann. Good that these fellas are being treated with a little culture on their tour too. That polar bear gave Bullwinkle quite a hug. Good thing he wasn't real, or Bully would have been a goner. ^_^

The lads had a busy day today. First of all, I took them up to the pool with me. On Wednesdays, I don't do aquafit but I often join friends for coffee. The friends were really happy to meet the lads.

I let them look through the window to see the pool. They are very excited and I think it will be hard to get out of the door to my early aquafit class without them tomorrow.

When I got them home, they rushed outside to build a snow fort even though I don't have their coats finished. I sure hope they don't catch another cold. They had the DG banner raised in no time flat and it was actually quite mild; so I hope they will be OK. This was their first encounter with snow and they were VERY excited.

I volunteer on Wednesday afternoons at the Gloucester Emergency Food Cupboard (http://www.gefc.ca) . The FC was just about to open when we got there and was a behive of activity. They jumped right onto the table full of fruits and vegetables.

I think they liked the fruit end of it better.

They were getting a bit out of control; so Gwen, the new Executive Coordinator (that's the job I did for many years), had to step in and tell them how to behave.

They shouldn't have been hungry after just having had lunch, but they sure were interested in what the volunteers were dividing - spaghetti in this case.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

And I don't really know what was being divided up here.

Then they spotted this pile of letters which still need to be delivered. This door-to-door delivery of letters is a major fund-raising operation of the FC and we rely on volunteers to get the letters out.

After that, I got busy, so I settled the lads down for a bit of a nap while I helped out.

Ann, tell Dave that my garden fairy has been asking after him. I kinda miss those fellas too.

What adventures they've been up to today! I can imagine how excited they were to see their first snow. Loved the snow fort!

Bettypauze - I see you are on the list to have them visit you after a few more, but there is still no mailing address for you. If you'd like to D-mail it to me, I'll write it in.

Ann

PS Wait till you hear what they've been up to today.

Ottawa, ON(Zone 5a)

I should add that Sandy has a significant birthday today. The lads are really fond of her and want to send their best wishes. We aren't able to get up the valley to celebrate in person, but we've got a little cake to help celebrate.

Victoria Harbour, ON

Yep, waiting patiently and have d-mailed you my address...

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

49 year-old hubby got me chuckling this morning by saying it's the first time he's slept with a woman in her fifties! lol

Can't wait to see what the lads were up to today.

Thursday, October 30 8:00 am The lads and I went to aquafit class at the local pool.
Sue, the instructor, welcomed them.

Dave and Bullwinkle found this comfy perch in a life preserver while I was in the pool. Dave was able to keep Bullwinkle out of trouble.

After class they wanted to go into the hot tub. I wasn’t so sure this was a good idea, but
we sat in the middle looking at the water for awhile.

Then Bullwinkle saw the slide in the children’s pool and remembered the slide Sandy had
shown him. In a flash, he was over there ready and down the slide and into the water before I had a chance to stop him.

I wrapped Bullwinkle in a towel to keep him from shivering and we went home quickly.
