October blooms 5

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I learned something new! Fantastic and thank you..........will have to try the italics, too.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

It is certainly worth a try-- it lost about 6 leaves and I hate to waste them--thanx!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I had forgotten about that, Lin. I have cut a stem (petiole) many times with a razor blade.

(Zone 1)

I thought it was you who taught me that trick, Gail! I use a little pair of manicure scissors. One of my favorite houseplant tools! I have a pair in my manicure kit and thought they were the perfect size for little leaves so I bought a pair just to keep with my plant supplies! I wipe the blades with a lysol or clorox wipe before and after each use, just as a precaution.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

My scissors are from my old needle point days...........they are really sharp and tiny. I keep them handy all the time.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I have to show you all something funny looking. I cut all the tops off of my episcias to root them. The plant didn't care and went on to bloom. They look so funny.

isn't she funny looking without foliage on the top of her?

same case scenario here as she waits for new growth on the top.

If someone will tell me what this strep is, I promise to go put a marker on her for the 3rd time!!!!!!!!!!

I don't know what Strep that is but it sure is pretty! Love the color of that bloom!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

It is either Party something or one of those fantasy kinds...........not new.......but an old one..........

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

I think it's a him, Gail. Looks like Party Boy to me.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Thank you! I think you are right...........put a name on him right now!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hey,I learn something NEW on this forum everyday.Syrumani how do you do the underline and slash?

Gail your episcias do look funny.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

It's the same as the italics or bold. For the underline you use a "u", for the slash you use an "s".

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Cool-- Thanks!!

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Just a thought-- I don't want to open a full blown co-op--but is anyone interested in splitting a case (100) 6" hanging pots?? I went to the site and right now everything is 15% off plus free shipping on orders over $75. so initial cost would be about .90 ea plus shipping out to you, which will be as inexpensive as possible.
http://www.novoselenterprises.com/products/single.asp?ID=8222
I was going to buy 10 --but the cost of shipping was as much as the cost of the baskets (12.00), making them $2.40 each. If anyone is interested--D-mail me and I'll see if my neighbor will let me have a UPS delivery to their house.

jannich, you are my best friend for taking in stray plants! Here she comes to you. I lost the label but she looks like a Chippewa to me from Belisles.

I don't have a bloom but I do have a couple of interesting pictures I took out of my kitchen window and the utility room. Then I jumped in my car to get to the entrance of the farm and then call for help. Jimmy was an hour away so he called one of his farm hands to come help me. The only problem was I had to sit in the car for 30 minutes until Peppy came.

I should just get the cows back in the pasture myself. You just put a lot of food from the barn in the back of your car with the door open and they will follow the food.
But I am glad Peppy came.

Last picture as I had to get moving in a hurry................they, of course, ate my plants outside........no biggie!

I don't blame you-- I don't like big animals--they scare me and they know it!! I am so glad we are no longer on the farm---whenever the stock got out -- I'd try to put them back in-- and they would just look at me--"yeah--right--make me"

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

They don't scare me. I am just being lazy be asking someone else to get them back in.....

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

You don't need to be out in this weather anyway, Gail! Although, I'm sure it's a few degrees cooler down there . . .

I hope nobody minds . . . I started a November thread . . . http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/919037/

(Zone 1)

LOL Gail ... I do think I remember a time last year when you talked about the cows getting out at night and you were out in your nightgown herding those huge critters! I just can't imagine! I am afraid of anything bigger than me! ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Lin, I feel sorry for them. God made them so stupid. They won't hurt anyone. It is easy to get them back in but picking up the big bags of food out of the barn is the hardest part. It was funny though because Jimmy wasn't around. (he was an hour away and I thought, "Do I have to sit here in my car honking the horn to keep the cows away from coming out the entrance". Don't worry. I kept the air conditioning running all the time!

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Mornin'

It's a good healthy life growing up on a farm. If I could, I would have a couple goats and a cow now.LOL.

How did your game go?

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

We lost..............we scored a touchdown with 1minute and 38 seconds left and put us ahead..........but then.......Texas Tech came back and scored a touchdown!!!!!!!!!!

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)
