Logee's is the best place to visit!!!! I love walking down those stairs into a greenhouse full of blooming plants.I miss going there..I got the new catalog a few weeks ago and couldn't believe the prices.Ever since the parents died the prices keep going up and up.But if you live close to them there tables full of plants are usually 6-7 dollars.Well they were a few years ago when I was up that way.LOL.Maybe not now.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

If you live close by them, I am sure it is fun to shop occasionally.........but I think their prices even stink when they have a sale. I can go get my amaryllis bulbs and start them now for Christmas bloom.............oh.........the biggest greatest ones costs 10-12 dollars............and they are giant in bloom!!!!!

(Zone 1)

I've received their catalogs for years and always thought it would be a great place to visit! I bet it is like heaven seeing all those beauties in person! I bet prices at the nursery are a lot less than the on line pricing.

(Zone 1)

Gail, where do you buy your Amaryllis bulbs? I just got some in a co-op here on DG. They are huge bulbs and I can't wait for them to bloom! Some I am giving as Christmas gifts, others I will plant in the yard next spring.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The last couple of years I have gotten them either from Turner's nursery in CC or that wonderful nusery in Boerne. I have a dentist's appointment the first part of November in New Braunfels so I am hoping that I can find some good ones in Seguin. (or New Braunfels has a couple of good nurseries)
I always buy them locally somewhere.

I never seem to know when the co-ops go on on DG...........where do you find all this out??????

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

"Watch" the co-op threads-- I had to stop--was getting too many good deals!!
oops didn't mean to be so bold ^_^

The Co-Op Forum: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/f/groupbuy/all/ I keep it as a favorite so it stays on my home page!

I just joined in on a co-op with Novosel Enterprises and ordered some 6" hanging baskets (only ordered 5 though, should have gotten a dozen or more!): http://www.novoselenterprises.com/products/single.asp?ID=8222 and I got 25 of these squatty little bulb pans that I love: http://www.novoselenterprises.com/products/single.asp?ID=484618 I wish I had ordered three times as much! I'm hoping someone hosts another one from this place in spring!

(Zone 1)

LOL, HGran ... I Love the Co-Op forum - yeah, you can get some really good deals! I kept thinking I was gonna remove it from my "watch" threads but haven't yet! ^_^ I ordered five of the 6" hanging baskets and 25 of the little 5" bulb pans and my total bill including shipping was only $14 and some change. They had enough folks join the co-op that we got something like a 25% discount! I love deals like that!

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I did remove it(after the amaryllis)-- was just too tempted-- now I just need to stop going to marketplace!! I missed that particular co-op, hopefully they will do it again--or one of us can. I hosted several co-ops last summer, it was a lot of fun. The succulent one was a lot of work tho--over 2000 little plants to be wrapped, tagged and shipped--WHEW!! I did get a group blast about the nitrile gloves-- those are indeed a good buy--$2.78 a pair plus shipping, I think they are $6-7 at HD.

(Zone 1)

Yeah, I saw that one about the gloves and was tempted but my DH just bought me 3 pair of new gloves this summer that I haven't even used yet. Got a pair from a friend for my Birthday this year and I'm still using those.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

OK...........will have to go there and mark it as a favorite!!!!! I love 6" hanging baskets . I have them all over my gro light stands............always start with just one 2 1/2 square pot of something. I keep propagating in the 6" basket with a zip lock until the basket is full and I can get it to bloom.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I didn't think I would like them-- and got some in the last co-op--cause they were so cheap--they are awesome-- I used mine for pulling poison Ivy-- so even tho they are in good shape-- they are history! I am getting them for Christmas gifts-- (also thinking about Dec. Bingo prize....)

(Zone 1)

Wow! Those gloves would be a great Bingo Prize! I think I might have to play in December! ^_^

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I am in trouble.........just added it to my favorites...........and watch this thread

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

^_^ I thought I would donate a pkg: 1 pair of each type, nitrile, thermal and mechanix.

(Zone 1)

Wow! Prizes for December Bingo already! That is very thoughtful and generous of you HGran!

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

It is going to be a long long winter here in the backwoods.... If the weather is bad-- I may not be able to get out of here-- so it is nice to know there will be entertainment!! While we may or may not get snow-- we DO get ice on the roads, our main highway to civilisation winds along the Arkansas "Grand Canyon" and there are NO guardrails. My grandaughter remarked on her first visit here "this road will be the death of my grandparents" So I may be home for long stretches at a time.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

You are bringing back memories for me from many year ago. My grandfather had a ranch in Las Vegas, NM for many many years and it was a 16 hour drive for us to take our children there. (my grandparents lived here, not there). So I decided to move to Ruidoso, NM so we could be closer to the ranch. Little did I know about cold weather, ice or snow. We had some very scary moments before we got 4wheel drive. Even after I was used to driving in the snow (and you never get used to driving on ice)...........the kids were all on ski team and I would take the coach and all the kids in my suburban every weekend to Colorado for competition. No one warned me about the 'passes' without guard rails. Oh my, I lost my heart a hundred times between New Mexico and Colorado for many years.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

It can get hairy!! I don't drive in snow or ice if I can help it-- and am planning on not having to go out at all if it is bad. I was actually stranded here for 5 days in March-- when we got over 12 " of rain and it washed the road out-- we weren't actually living here then--just working on the house. I ran out of food and had to hike out to the highway-- my daughter came and hiked in to help me get my dogs out, it was another week before I could get back in to get my vehicle. It was after that that we had to get rid of the car-- the road has never been put back the way it should be. This is my daughter in the "road".

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I thought you didn't live close to your children or maybe I misunderstood you! She is cute!

(Zone 1)

HGran: Now THAT is what I call living in the outback! How far are you from a main road? I would never in a million years have known that was a road if you hadn't told us!

I wouldn't mind living in the country or preferably on an Island but I would get cabin fever if I couldn't get out of the country or off the Island whenever I felt like it. I can't imagine being snowbound or stuck somewhere for a long length of time ... psychological I'm sure because we have spent a week with no electricity or running water after a hurricane hit, and it's dangerous driving anywhere with trees down and debris in the road and power lines down. So, I have been stuck before and it didn't bother me. I am a city girl though, and your picture looks like a desolate area ... I always wanted to live in the country but still be near a mall and stores. LOL ... what a contradiction, huh?

I agree with Gail .. your daughter is a cutie! ^_^

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

My daughter lives in Missouri, a little over an hour from here, but she takes care of mom when she can ^_^ We are 2 miles from the main highway-- a drive that takes 15 minutes, then another 8 miles to town, another 15 minute drive because the highway is so windy. We are talking a little town, 500 people. It is a tourist destination tho, so we have a decent little market and 3 gas stations...There is no decent shopping for over 50 miles--but it was that far to GOOD shopping even before we moved here. I love it-- I was born a city girl-- but have always been a hillbilly at heart! I still enjoy my "comforts" tho'-- satellite TV & internet

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Somtimes I get so excited I just have to show my new plants.
The first picture is from Goldleaf in a trade. Look at what they are! One is Pearcea hypocyrtiflora and the one on the right is Different Drummer by Nancy Block. Do ya think I am jumping up and down for joy?????????

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

The next excitement comes from jannich which is a very large sinningia guttata she grew from seed. I can't wait for her to bloom. I have her domed a couple of days.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

And.........last but not least...........my favorite vendor on ebay is Vmeenee and here are two of her plants which arrived this morning. I don't know know how she does it but she always has 2 crowns in each plant. These are nice size streps.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

Looking good, Gail!

(Zone 1)

Well, look at all those lovelies! I bet you are the happy gessiegail today! You are one busy lady, it must be a full time job with all the plants you grow! I want to know what kind of vitamins you take, I think I need to order a few! ^_^

I seem to have no energy whatsoever today. Didn't sleep well last night and have done absolutely nothing all day. Maybe it's the weather being so cool and breezy ... I need a nap!

Phoenix, AZ(Zone 9b)

Oooh...nice!!!
You gals/guys are gonna get me hooked on streps yet!

Sharon,
trying to figure how /where to re-set up shelves and if I can dig my light fixtures out of the storage room where they are very buried...
and trying to remember that I have to bring in my adeniums and pachypodiums and succulents and my other hoyas and my plumerias, etc. very soon....and I really want more orchids...
Where am I gonna putt'em all?
My back bedroom already has the indoor tortoise pen, and the cat sleeps there during the day...can't move her bed...
and my daughter/son-in-law/grandkids are coming for Christmas so they really should get the bedroom...
but it's my PLANT ROOM...sigh...
What to do...what to do...
I definitely have
2manyplants
and want more...lol..

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

This happens all the time and it still blows my mind. The one blooming does have a baby leaf but the other one in front which is going to bloom doesn't even have a baby yet. I think I need to cut the mother leaves back some.

Thumbnail by gessiegail
Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I had a good plant day today too... got 3 yummy streps in the mail thanks gessiegail!. got a pink smoke episcia & some AV leaves thanks ihettenhausen!! and a chirita and petrocosmia from ebay!! the petrocosmia got a little beat up, can anyone tell me if they have to have a stem on the leaves to root?

Thumbnail by Hillbilly_Gran
Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

I also went to the college of the ozarks greenhouse and got a really nice begonia--and 2 Lophos wine red, spent $11. Next time I'll take my camera for y'all-- they have 3 GH full of orchids!

Thumbnail by Hillbilly_Gran
Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

Someone will come along who grows petrocosmeas........I don't so I don't know. I would think you would need a little bit of a stem on the leaf???????

How do you all put something in bold on DG? I don't know how.

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

that is what I would think-- like an AV--too bad there isn't any;( For Bold--You type < b > with no spaces before what you want in bold and < / b > again no spaces at the end. If you forget that part everything will be in bold. You can also do italics the same way with the i

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

Hi Ladies I'm trying the bold.LOL
Nice plants you got today Hillbilly_Gran

Andalusia, AL(Zone 8b)

LOL,Sinningia guttata looks better today Gail.

Whitsett, NC(Zone 8a)

You could really have fun and do something like: Gessiegail

Jasper, AR(Zone 7a)

Ok--now how do we do that? smilies, bold and italics are the extent of my "know how"

(Zone 1)

Hilllbilly_Gran: I wonder if you could cut the petrocosmea leaf to form a stem ... cut it at the bottom of the leaf along the midvein ... I think Gessiegail told me how to do that with leaves. I had one Petrocosmea for about a year and a half and it didn't do a thing ... didn't grow much, I traded it to RainGazer. I think she grows the Pet's ... and maybe Bmedle/Brenda does too. Hopefully someone who is knowledgeable about them will come along soon.

hmm ... my computer or DG is acting funny tonight. I'm not seeing anyone's photo's, just a teeny blue box with a question mark in it.

Taft, TX(Zone 9a)

I just have to try this:
Jannich, is this working?
