Salted PE CAHN MISSION #1

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

So Commander, what about the name, you can't leave her nameless? that would be a horrible thing to do...
LK

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

No, but have silkies due next week. these are all RIR and NHR today

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

her name will be pecahn

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ohhhhhhhh, such a fine name!

Lodi, United States

I appreciate your commendation, CPO Moxon, and will strive to do my best to live up to the very high level of bossy certitude your example has set before us all.

NPCG feels the need to exclaim admiringly over the very dark color of Commander Jordan's RIR eggs.

Over.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

Thank You NPCG.
The queen asked for help with using an incubator in post# 5699381 above. can anyone help her?

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Sir permission to ask a question about where Pecan is now and whether she just air dries on her lonesome or whether you use a little teensyweensy towel to dry her sir yes sir.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'm trying really really hard to be orderly. Standing at attention, wide eyed and twitching with all the excitement going on around here. All this pipping going on and new life forms being presented to our commander is a bit overwhelming... but I'm gaining composure.

still barefoot pacing, and hiding all my bitten fingernails from Commander Jordan.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Private bj I'm eating carrot cake. It's very calming. A little messy when you're doing the tango but otherwise it's all good.

OMG:O Sir permission to eat carrot cake while tangoing with joy over the hatching sir.

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

LOL... I want to see the teensy weensy towel you use to dry her off...

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

permission to eat carrot cake granted. the new life form is still in the bator, while she dries off

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

LOL. More pictures of the new babies, please? Along with the little teensyweensy towel!
I have no instructions from the Commander, so I will just go and hold hand with who ever needs it.
LK

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

there is no towel. LK, you can help me eat spinach dip

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Ok, Is that on crackers?
Let me know when you are ready for your nourishments.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Doing the tango while eating carrot cake sounds dangerous. Best to check with KPO Jan. We don't want any broken legs.

For the information of new crew members, when baby chicks first hatch, they have this "extra fluff" on them that falls off while they dry. Like baby hair, supposedly. I know nothing about babies nor do I want to. But anyway, generally one leaves chicks in the incubator for up to 24 hours to dry off so they don't get chilled. Then one moves them into a "brooder" with a heat lamp. My brooder is right next to my incubator so I do the move right away. The baby chick fluff sometimes doesn't all come off right away. Sometimes after the 24 hours I get them out and use a small piece of polar fleece and gently fluff them all over with it to get the extra baby fluff off and to make the rest of their fluff all fluffed out so that they stay warm. Sometimes parts of it are sort of stuck down on the chick and they stay warmer if they are fluffed out. Fluffing chicks with polar fleece is great fun for the chick and the fluffer. After fluffing, I put them back in the brooder. When they are able to fly onto the top of the brooder lamp device that I have (it is a square plastic thing), then I know they are ready to move into the indoor rabbit cage on wheels. After that, they go into the large brooder box in our outbuilding, and then eventually to the outdoors when fully feathered.

Moxon over.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

yea Kathy congratz. Fine job.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Sir I volunteer for fluffer duty. (aha there is a teensyweensy towel involved).

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

I'll hold the teensy weensy polar fleece towel... you fluff the chick... ok?

Hey, I'll even bring my own polar fleece.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Next time I do it I'll have to take pictures of my fluffing procedures for the enjoyment of all. :-)

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

We need pictures please. We need visuals to get us through the day!

Lodi, United States

It has been brought to the attention of NPGC that members of the hatch team have been resorting to unapproved refreshments--in particular foods high in vegetable content (e.g. carrot cake and spinach dip).

The only approved mission foods are those extremely high in refined carbohydrates and fat with no other nutritional content. The most perfect of which is Scottish Shortbread. Such food support the calm and satisfied demeanor necessary to oversee a stressful hatch.

When Commander Jordan's hatch is complete--all hatch team members showing aberrant eating choices should report to the following link for re-education.

I'll play the bagpipes for the chicken this evening. They're loud enough -- I'm sure everyone will hear. Any requests (other than please don't play the bagpipes)?

Edited to say I never did receive those triplicate requisition forms, so the carrot cake must be sent to me immediately. I hate to be harsh, but those are the rules.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Fox on the Run please.

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

The spinach dip was the commanders request, so that should stay!
LK

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Private BJ requesting permission to leave my post so I can go rid my fridge of all veggies I'm holding captive in there.
Plus I should bake a chocolate cake for the carbs needed to complete this mission.

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

grumble, mutter, grumble... I think there's something in the constitution about the right to eat carrot cake while doing the tango.... grumble, mutter, mutter, grumble

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

spinach dip can come my way also. with warm fresh baked bread. I guess I need to get an official title, if I have one I have not a clue to what it is. Can I be clueless something or other. Or I forgot!!!!

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

KPO Jan requesting permission to lie down on the floor cuz I'm laughing so hard. Depends are a good suggestion(especially in situations like this) I go away for a little while and it takes 20 minutes to catch up on the reading. Then when I type something 20 others have done so at the same time. ACK! I can't keep up.

I have all kinds of pictures in my head of chick fluffing, carrot tangoing(SP?), bagpipe playing.

I guess we all heard catscan - only highly refined carbs for us highly refined mission crew. ( except for the spinach dip Commander wants)

Lodi, United States

I would like to recommend Private BJ for immediate elevation in rank due to her "can do" attitude in the adopting NPCG standards.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

I think carrot cake is highly refined, especially if it is slathered with cream cheese frosting. Please make sure the floor is dry while tangoing, we definitely don't want a fall.

(Tia) Norman, OK(Zone 7a)

off to the bus stop to pick up the bicycle ridin fool. AKA my 5 yr old grandson.

Bessemer, AL(Zone 8b)

And a congrat on the new life form.

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

I want spinach dip!!!!

Oh.. so sorry..

Mother Bird reporting.. Extreme joy in seeing new fuzzy life form Pekhan LOL

Congratulations Commander Jordan

What a wonderful day in the neighborhood.
Over

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Kathy, how you holding up with all the new life forms emerging? Need a drink, or something to eat?
LK

Kemp, TX(Zone 8a)

Soon as the commander stops singing to those eggs, maybe she'll take care of that request for the immediate elevation in rank.

COMMANDER JORDAN !!!! Please respond... your sonar is working overtime.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

where oh where is the commander. Wren and Andre the demon child off to search.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

I love the bagpipes. Thank you Senior Chef Pastrypuff, for this suggestion. Any appropriate tune will do.

Moxon eating Cheez-Its from the vending machine because she didn't get lunch. Believed to be sufficiently non-nutritional to pass muster.

Luvs - you need to go to the chicken crew title thread and get yourself a title!

Catscan - recommendations for Private BJ's new title?

Moxy over.
