Has anyone seen this brug - on ebay???

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

You ALL have been so welcoming AND so helpful - thank you - thank you!!! So I'm trying to find "unique" brugs - first for scent but 2nd visually (love anything I can photograph). I've peeked at DG's Marketplace but also Ebay...I came across this Brug http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=330280212349 The bloom looks more like a lily - and THAT description of scent.....ahhhhh!! I figured I'd come to you all and maybe you could tell me your experience with it. Thanks so much!!!!

Well thanks, y'all. That's my favorite brug, been hoarding her for too long now, but wanted to make sure she was a big healthy girl before making her debut. Please wish me luck.

I hope some of the hybridizers will take a go at her, doubles don't do well enough to suit me here, too humid. I would be nice to see her in color, tho her green to yellow ribbon stripes look kinda neat.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Vi!!!!! She's yours????!!!! What a beauty!!! I hope you'll be putting more listings up come spring...I've added her to my wish list...just gorgeous!!!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

violabird, who are her parents?

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

The story of Star Dancer is pretty long, a little sad and a little fun, all documented right here on DG, including her naming. Back in 1999 or 2000, all I knew about brugs is what I had seen in a Wayside or Parks cataIog. One day I got lost in a neighborhood on my way to a yard sale, spotted the brug in someone's yard, did a U-turn, pulled up the drive and ran to see it like a madwoman. The man that owned it offered me a cutting. (And yes, I did try to retrace the owner, but it was then years later and no success--I didn't remember the house-just the big white pretty brug.)

I didn't know what a jewel I had for years and called it 'my drive-by brug'! It wasn't until the wonderful hybridizer Bonnie Vaughn (Painted Lady & Miss Emily MacKenzie) saw it in person did I know I had something different. I didn't know that all brugs were not split lobed like mine. Then came the Georgia RU when Ludger came from Germany, and the wonderful gone2seed and all the other great brug folks got to see her--they played with her on and off for about 24 hours and she stayed perky the entire time--she was a hit.

She has been my hidden treasure. I am ashamed to say that I hoarded her and shared very little, I lost her once and had luckily gotten her back from a dear friend. Perhaps I knew that one day I would need her, and this is now--I've been unemployed & depressed for a very long time and hope to pick up a little cash from ebay. Hope you all will forgive me as it is quite unlike the wonderful generosity shown here at DG. Perhaps my luck can turn for the better now that I've made my confession.

Here is a photo of me, Star Dancer and a few other brugs at that memorable GARU. If anyone has the photos of using her as a telephone, I would sure love to see them again.
Vi

Wow they look so good!
Gee I hope it all goes well for you mate ...are going to make some seeds with her? I am sure you would do very well selling some seeds from a cross like that ...hidden treasure for sure.
The very best of luck!

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I'm glad you were able to recover her. Her blooms are huge. Do you have a side view of her blooms? She sure is unusual. Have you cross bred her to see if she passes that trait to her offspring? Do you have any idea when she'll be available in the Marketplace?

I had her marked to watch before Chantell posted this thread.

Thanks for listening the raves of a demented woman, lol.

Actually I believe DonnaB gave out seeds a few years ago with an unknown dad--never heard more about it. Right now she has pods forming and if they hold, I'll have seed--But they are unk also, my best guess would be Kyles Pink right next to her although Maya, Cypress Gardens & Golden Lady may have been blooming at the same time also.

As for a side view, this is probably the best I have right now, will try to do better with the next blooms coming this week.

I usually cut back early November after she blooms best here--I so really hate to do it sooner. Those cutting will be unrooted.

Here's another interesting photo:

Oh you are far from demented my friend...you'll have to just take my word on that - ok? Gracious...she has a gorgeous bloom....sooooo pretty!!!

And her clean foliage with bud today.

And lastly her huge trunk, she's now about 8' and has pods on all stems. May have to get a crane to move her to the basement, don't know if I can manage it alone!

If you can't talk to your daves garden friends then who can you talk to ...^_^

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Agree!!! Vi, ya listening????

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

I saw this one at the Ga swap. This is indeed a special brug.Huge flowers and the split corolla give it that something extra.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Thanks JT, might you have access to or a photo of that funny shot of Ludger, Arlene, tiG and others using her as a phone in their ears? Wish I could remember who took it, do you?

And thank you ladies very much for your support, it means the world to me right now.

This could be when she was polinated, L-R: Cypress Gardens, Kyles Pink, Star, Golden Lady, and Maya.

It will be interesting to see what her offspring will look like. From what I have read, crosses with variegated Brugs produce albino seedlings which die soon after emerging.

Milton, FL(Zone 8a)

Vi,I hope you offer some of the seed on Ebay or the Marketplace.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Do you know that I've never harvested seed? Never even let a pod grow. Can you tell just how preggers they are? It fells pretty solid to be just 1 month, if it's over that than KP would be top suspect. If they hang on with the transfer to the basement in a few weeks...guess I need to go back to brug 101.

I will never forget the time I was asked to collect pollen from my brugs. I went around with forcepts and pulled every anther out of every blooming brug. No one told me that I'd be left SCENTless--that was the end of my doctoring career :(

La Grange, TX(Zone 8b)

I don't understand what you are asking in "Can you tell just how preggers they are?" Do you mean how many seeds the pods contain? You can't tell until you peel the cork off the seed. If the stigma doesn't get enough pollen not all the corky capsules will have seeds in them. The pods won't be ready until the peduncle (The stalk connecting the seed pod to the branch.) yellows and starts to turn or dry up. The seed pod may or may not be brown. The pod will continue to mature in your basement.

Middle of, VA(Zone 7a)

Good explanation, Betty...God knows - I'M clueless...nice to know what to look for.

Jonesboro, GA(Zone 7b)

Wouldn't it be neat to have a Pink Star??? KP might be a good choice for a "Daddy' with his rich color. It may be too late this year, unless you have good light in your basement. Do your brugs keep their leaves in your basement, or go dormant??
I have quit dragging mine in, no light in my basement or garage, so it was sort of useless. I can show you how to pollinate them, maybe next year.
My neighbor with the big pool enclosure didn't have room last year, not sure yet this year, but it is such a hassle to move them in, much easier 5-6 years ago!

Linden, TN

OMG I am watching that very auction !! I really really, and did I say REALLY want a cutting from that awesome Brug... I am working on a "white garden" and this would be such an amazing addition.... but I am not sure I can afford to pay as much as it looks like it will go for... We are retirees on a limited fixed income, with the exception of the few items we sell on eBay, so I have to be careful with my spending.... but I am definitely keeping an eye on this one...

Carolyn

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Betty, I was referring to what stage the pod is in sizewise to determine how long ago it was pollinated some are rather large and firm already--others half the size. The little hussy has been busier than I thought--she has 7 pods! Will try and get photo tomorrow if it stops raining long enough.

PJ, my basement is set up with lights and is also a daylight room. I do take most leaves off the ones in pots and let them adjust slowly. I usually have brugs blooming until Christmas then cut the light hours down. The ones in the ground I cut and bubble until ready to pot up. I remember how to pollinate, I think--just don't remember the stufff about pods. Let's get together next week if possible, I'll email you, K?

I'd like a pink star with tendrils myself ;>}
Look how dark KP got this year!

oh my, your brugs are to die for, good luck with them I hope you get them in safely and that your pods are filled with many seeds to sell.. oh, I buy Seeds! LOL ;)

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

I love your Star! The whole story behind it is wonderful. I can only imagine how proud you are. Thanks to whoever posted the link to ebay where she's up for auction. I'm shocked at how low the price still is. But then, I'm not much of an ebayer, so I don't know how it works. Going back to figure out how long she'll be listed. Anyway, congrats Vi! Great job!

Just a note - I'm the one that posted it to see if anyone had heard of her not realizing who the sweet seller was (Hi, Vi!!!). Please no one hesitate to bid - I'm going to wait until spring time...I was just "window shopping" when I came upon her. I just looked at the listing and it's ending this Sun. 10/26 at just about 7:30 PACIFIC time (hopefully I figured that out right)

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Well in my hunt for brug seeds sicne there were no more avaiable on th emarketplace I found the auction andn then found this link.

Cool.. I have nevr seen a pod before. Kinda looks like a cucumber. How will you know when it is ready to pick?

Linden, TN

I've never seen a pod before neither.... that is so neat... and yes, how do you know when it is ready.. and how many seeds are inside the pod?

Carolyn

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

this is really cool. I picked up some popcorn for tomorrow night so I'll be right here waiting. Best of luck to all bidders!

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Only two hours and 26 minutes to go. Ya getting excited yet Violabird?

Davis. May I have some of your popcorn while we wait. I got salt and butter and cokes. : )

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

you bet starlight! These new brugs debuts are always better when you watch with someone else, don't cha think? Haven't had buttered popcorn in years but I'm right there with you on the coke.

Hmmm...wondering what Vi will be wearing for the occasion? : )
I'm guessing something in red with a matching slipper (bedroom that is). lol
Have fun Vi.

Seale, AL(Zone 8b)

Definately! Here's your coke and a glass with ice. You can drink from the can or glass. Your choice. I wonder who the last bidder is and if there gonna be a wild button bid frenzy at the end. I tried to help her out, had to finally drop out this morning though, went as high as my checkbook at the moment would allow. : ( Anxious to see who gets it.: )

Disputanta, VA(Zone 7a)

glass, pls & thanks. I hate that you can't tell who's bidding. It would be much more fun to watch that way. I'm betting a DGer will end up with the Star. Will we know who wins when it's over? Or will just Vi know? I'm hoping to get a cutting from the buyer, gosh could that happen as soon as this coming spring? That'd be perfect timing for me.

Barnesville, GA(Zone 8a)

Aw, aren't you guys sweet! Actually I had a long day of bringing in most of brugs and was quite tired out. I got such a tension headache I had to take a nap, lol. My friend just called to wake me.

Starlight, thanks for your bidding! K, here we go...
