Hello Tropicman, it's getting really chilly here at nights...down to the low 40's but back up to the 70's during the day. Do you think my epis will survive under the lanai or should I bring them inside.

Mine were out under a tree into the high 30's well one nite 36* without any damage to them.
The tree still had leaves so that was some protection,I think they will probably be ok,I'd watch to make sure the wind doesn't blow the cold air on them if at all possible, also if you could put a tarp up over them that would help hold some heat in as well.
I've heard some from California say they have put a outside flood light up to shine on there's when the temps drop into the 40's,just a few degrees can make a big difference.
The difference between Florida and California,is your temps get back quickly to average temps better than California's does. So you'll only be in the 40's a couple hours or so,I think your going to be ok!

WOW, Tropicman. I've never had that many blooms to mine. 5 is the most buds I've had opened at once. But if yours is a Epiphyllum pumilum, then the blooms are much smaller. I believe mine is an Epi Oxypetallum. The bloom is almost the size of a dinner plate. Opens around 8:00pm and closes the next morning before 7:00am.

Hi Lill
I also have the Oxypetallum, most blooms I have had on it was 9,it hasn't bloomed this year,it does that on occasions blooms every other year,Is yours very fragrant as well?
Mine usually open closer to 10 pm and close before 7am as well.

Flowerofscotland I am north of you. The temp under my plastic dropped down to 39 the other morning and it did not hurt any on my epi's. I think what make the difference was this was after daylight, they where protected form the wind and the temps only stayed down there for about a hour. I will be glad when I get that green house finished

Yes, my Epi Oxy have incredible strong fragrance. Hard to describe, a powdery smell. My kids call them the Little Shop of Horror flowers because they are so big. My Hookeri opens later, around 10:00pm.

I planted mine about 3 years ago in the ground, inside the greenhouse,it has really gotten huge, over 10ft tall and it even found a crack in the corner of the greenhouse and grew outside another couple feet.
The cold and frost kills it back to the roof of the greenhouse,it has not bloomed in a couple years.
My Frances Epi has a couple buds, for the first time since I got it as a cutting 8 years ago,so I'm excited to see it bloom for the first time,I can hardly wait!
Them is some nice large flowers you got there lill!
