One bloom tonite

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Could they be dragon fruit? I have not really studied them yet. As the dragon fruit is grown over there that might explain the large growth.

Pawleys Island, SC

I have heard that some of the dragon fruit cacti grow well over 20 ' tall. They actually train them to grow on trellises like trees. I think in your case tropic man, you would have to build a heated greenhouse around that one.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Well I hope the 14 inch basket with restrict the roots were eventually they will stop growing
and start flowering!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Can you show a close up of the epi's and we could probably tell if they are dragon fruit or not.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

All I have is a pic right now couple years old,but will try to get a new pic tomorrow.

that is a epi and not the dragon fruit. I do not know if you have theses info pages but here are a couple of site with good info
www.easycactus.co.uk/site/content/view/16/1/
www.epigalleria.com/care.htm
www.theamateursdigest.com/epis.htm

I notice on rereading on that to much light will cause them to grow lush.

Hope these sites help

Sandy, Thanks for those links. I didn't have those either. Linda

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I keep them to reread as my memory is about two seconds long.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

LOL,I read not enough light the plants grow lush!!!LOL
Ok,just went out to the greenhouse and took some pics.
I have these growing over the pond, there are about 7 to 8ft above the pond, well you can see the rafters of the greenhouse, and there stems hang down to just above the water of the pond,a few maybe in the pond.
Enjoy!

Did you try that formula on them?
Just found this thought it might help you out.

Yes I have tried that only to get a flush of new growth instead of flowers,in fact I let them get to dry or to cold, because the ends of the stems dried up and turned brown, this was couple years ago when I read this somewhere,it does work with bougainvillea vines, and works well, all the leaves dropped, and nothing but flowers started blooming.

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

And you tried the formula?
Here it is:
12 oz beer
1 cup Epsom salts
1/2 cup ammonia
2 cup water
1/2 cup molasses (I use black strap)
4 tbs bloom booster
vit B12 (I use 250-500mg)
You use 1 tablespoon per gallon of warm water.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Nope, didn't try that, just use the peters 20-20-20,same thing some of the others from Sandy's link suggest.
That sounds like a Jerry Baker formula, which never worked for me,on somethings I've tried it the past, bought his book several years ago when first started gardening, altho some of his stuff did do some good, especially on insecticides!

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

That is from the epis forum they call it Becky's formula.
I have used jJerry Bakers formula with very good success here in Texas. Especially the clementis chow and the green up formula for my lawn.
Well thought I'd just put that on the table, I have just started my epis collection and I am going to try it, some on this forum have sworn by it.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Please lets us know how it works for you, always interested in results from others trial and errors!!

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

Sure thing!
Last year I put out epsom salt and lime and beer and coke on the lawn and the weeds faded and the grass got really green, so I beleive in home made recipes for growing plants.

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

Oh yeah and ammonia

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Just goes to show chemicals are the same no matter what there in!
I use Hydrogen Peroxide a lot more than I use to!
For fungus problems
Soaking in water with my seeds
Algae in my pond and fountain

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

I use it for soaking seeds too, I take it there are no fish in the pond.

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

I was going to ask that. I have a flux half barrel, to catch the water that drips of the birdbath and for water plants. It has small fish in it but I am fighting the Algae

Yes there is a catfish in the pond, was several Koi and other catfish, but this one that is in there ate them all!!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Catfish are known for eating everything. What kind is it?

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Just a mud cat that my grandson put in as a little baby which grew and grew!!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

How big is that fish? Some of those varmints get huge.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Oh about a pound and a half, little over a foot in length!

Chickenville, FL(Zone 9a)

Are we supposed to spray 'the recipe' on the epies foilage? Or water the soil with it?

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

About the right size for eating. LOL

Montgomery, TX(Zone 9a)

LOL! wren.
I guess it would stink up the grease in the pan!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

Not if you feed it grain for a well.

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

Sushi!!!LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)

When are you going to have the party? lol

Bushland, TX(Zone 6a)

As soon as I order a set of ronco fillet knifes!!!LOL

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 8b)
