My goodness where is everyone??? I guess we're all outside cleaning and doing some fall planting. It's really sad, though, when the poultry and livestock forum beats us out(in posts) for the week.
I can't believe the poultry forum beat us.
Is it a race?
Well, of course it's a race, Iris!!!! LOL We chatty NE Forum folks take great pride in beating everyone out as often as possible. Why do you think we encourage so much rambling and "off the subject" meandering in the threads?????? LOL
Sorry for my part in this disappointing showing, Jen. I'm afraid a few of us were gabbing at the RU instead on online!
Gee, I thought "off-topic" discussions on any of the threads was highly discouraged! Maybe once the weather gets cold again and outdoor gardening comes to a halt, we'll have more time to participate in the forum again!
Actually, we've been beaten by poultry and livestock for quite a few weeks now. We used to be regularly over 2000 posts per week. Lately, it's been around half that. I am posting less than I used to, though I still do try to check in every day. We definitely lost a number of former regulars for whatever reason.
And we sadly miss them.. I did notice that we did better than last week though. lol
I for one thoroughly enjoy looking at all the posts and threads. We are certainly a bunch of different personalities. That's what makes this old world interesting. But we can all come together in the gardening world - in spite of or maybe because of our differences. Whoa, where did that all come from?
Life has one constant token:
Fowl words are often spoken.
Hee hee, Don, you still got it!!
Love it, Don
Where's the beef?!!
Yo quero Taco Bell.
No wonder the Poultry forum beat us - talk is cheap! Bunch of old biddies no doubt.
Most roofing shingles are made from asphalt ......
(Just thought I would throw in some off-topic nonsense to help boost the rank!!)
Do roofers hang out at shingles bars??
I hope it's not catchy, if they do.
Actually, if the poultry and livestock folks want to send some quality meat this way, I'll take it!
I just saw a thread for squirrel recipes ..... times are a gittin' tough, it seems .....
Of course, I had to post a recipe .......
Let me guess - they taste like chicken?
Those darn chickens again geesh. Hi all. I saw this thread and wonder how do you know how many posts there were for the week? Is there a stats place I can look? Thanks for your help.
It's in the newsletter.
Thanks victorgardener. Hope its still nice and toasty in the NE. I've been freezing my toosh off lately here. Have a fruitful fall everyone. Ta.
No problem. Yes - warm, but cloudy day here today. We hit about 72. How cold is it there?
We're dipping below every night now brrrrrrrr. Daytime in the high 30s -mid 40s. Methinks the time of the cold and the dark has officially arrived. I've dug and stored my tender bulbs and dried/frozen my herbs. I have a few more lilys and alliums to plant and need to finish spreading compost, poop and leaves for my winter mulch and that's about it for 2008. Good thing the 2009 catalogues are arriving ^_^
Ouch - that's cold. Good luck!
Honestly, I am afraid to make the squirrel recipe .......
Does cooking kill rabies??
Probably, but I won't find out the hard way!
Can't say I've ever eaten squirrel, but my folks have. Down here in the marshy areas of south jersey they trap "rats" - muskrats- that is and have "rat dinners". Never been to one of those either.
Hopefully we'll bring our numbers up this week. I know we are trying our best. lol
Posted just today in an other thread, according to jordankittyjo, with squirrel it is best to wait until frosts:
no, squirrels, rabits and sometimes deer all have wooves in warm weather, and can't be eten. the frost killes it
You can bet I will be waiting! Have pigs begun to fly, as yet?
What's 'wooves'? I'm considering eating Damien the Spawn of Satan Treerat who lives in my garden. Can I BBQ him or is stew the way to go? (Just thought I'd jump in again to boost your ratings.) And how bout those Red Sox? Whooo hooo now there's a good NE topic? There's an english ivy called 'Fenway Park' so its definitely garden related.
I believe she is referring to the larva of the bot fly.
Here is the thread I found over in the Recipe Forum about "eten squirrel"
Recipes: What cook with the Squirrel?

Thanks WNYwillie B. ok I don't think I go there. It would make me erp.
I can do without it.
Yeah, I'm not that desperate yet.
I would eat bark first, too.
ok last pop in I promise ^_^ I never noticed until flowerjen started this thread but boy o boy those chicken peoples are a chatty bunch!! The chicken chatter is flying on the recent posts!! You NE folks have your work cut out for you. Good luck. See you in the photo contest (because of course you all entered your fabby NE pics so the rest of us can see them, right?)
Befitting the northeast, Adirondacks means "bark chewers".
Say it isn't so, dahlianut. Please pop in whenever you get the urge to up our numbers WINK-WINK.
We love the Adirondacks, so I guess I'd eat bark too.
Maybe if we just put one word in each post that would help our numbers. lol It sure would be hard to read though.
I'm trying my best to post often.
Thanks Jan23 I just luv visiting ^_^
