I had just written a question about the male and female but it doesn't look like it posted so here goes again.

For the past couple of months I have had both a male and female Green Lynx on my gardenia plant about 18" apart. The bush is at the entrance to my garden so I check it at least 4 x's a day to see what they are eating, etc. Last night about 6:00 pm was the last I checked and both were fine, no changes. This morning I checked again and noticed that where the male was in its exact place is another female with a full egg sac. There are no signs of the male, no carcass or anything. Is there some morphology with this spider I need to know, or is the black widow syndrome at play?

By the way these are very hard to photograph as there is no contrast between them as they bled so well with the bush.

Thanks

Green Lynx spider~seeking information? See next two links.

It may also be that the male spider made a hasty departure after mating; spider are predators and female green lynxes defend thier offspring egg sacs. The male spiders have elaborate courtship rituals to avoid being eaten.

Those GL's are hazzardous to a butterflies' health!! They don't get to live in my yard. Hopefully you don't live close to me, if you allow the egg sac to hatch!

Holy Crap I just found another female with egg sac, that is a total of three. I haven't seen them eat the BF's but I have seen them eat a wasp.
Sheila are they eating the larvae or butterflies?

I don't have them that I have seen, but Cat in So Tx has loads of them in the fields and posted a lot of pictures where they eat butterflies. Take a look....
