-------------SWAP CLOSED--------------------
Now that the growing season is over, most of us probably have lots of seed from our garden. We may also have left over seed from purchases made. Would anyone be interested in a seed swap? I think the last swap was a success. If you are interested please let me know and I will add your name to the list below. I'll start the swap at 10 people. I can increase that if there is an interest. **Remember you shouldn't save seed from hybrid plants and vegetables because they won't produce true in the next generation.**
SEED SWAP RULES
Let's make the swap 10 packets of seeds for those that don't have alot to share. ALL SEED ENTRIES MUST BE RECEIVED on or before November 1st. Based upon my experience with other swaps, I will not wait on late entries. If your seed is not in by the above date, I will just mail you back your own seed.
Use a bubble envelope to send seeds to me as this will protect your seed in transit. [my address is in the exchange-Anitabryk2] **This swap is open to paid members only**
You can calculate your postage here http://postcalc.usps.gov/ . WHAT EVER IT COST YOU TO SHIP YOUR PACKAGE TO ME SHOULD BE THE AMOUNT OF POSTAGE INCLUDED IN YOUR ENVELOPE FOR RETURN BACK TO YOU. As an example. A 5 ounce 6x9 envelope will cost approximately $1.85. Please - if you don't include postage then I thank you for the gift of seed.
_____________________________________________________________________________________
☼ Include 10 different packets of seed; - no more / no less - please
☼The amount of seed is whatever you feel comfortable with. If you are looking for guidelines, see the Seed Trading Primer in Extras; [HYPERLINK@davesgarden.com]
☼Seed must be dried - NO FRESH SEED - IT ARRIVES MOLDY
☼You can use anything for seed packs, but make sure they won't fall out and tape is not in a location where seeds could stick. Coin envelopes, glassine envelopes and small plastic reclosable envelopes all work well. You could even cut a regular envelope in half and tap the end closed. Wrapping in tissue or paper towel and then with tape doesn't work - please save someone the mess of trying to open it.
☼Identify each seed pack with the contents and include your DG name
☼Include a mailing label with your own address on it which I will use to mail the items back - so please make it big enough and legible enough for the postman to read.
☼Include enough postage based upon the above rates for me to return a package to you.
☼I will reuse the bubble envelope you send the seed packs in. Please make sure it is in good shape and will survive the round trip. I have found the 6x9 bubble envelopes work the best.
☼Write WS Swap on outside of the envelope sent to Anita.
☼Include a list of the seeds enclosed - please. It will make it a bit easier to make sure that everyone gets something different than what they sent.

Hope it's not too late to join
Rose
Welcome aboard, Rose!
Anita, I have never done a seed swap before. I can't seem to find your mailing address. Where is the exchange? Thanks, Jennifer
In EXTRAS Jennifer.
Dropped the seeds in the mail - I hope I have WS Swap on the label!! I shouldn't do these things before I have my morning coffee.
Rose
okay - this is probably a stupid question - but are the seeds to be limited to just those that can be winter-sowed?
Last year I wintersowed everything but at different times. I was even tossing zinnia seeds in early spring in containers. OK so I went a little nuts. The funniest thing I did and it was probably an warm early spring afternoon, sitting with my husband and I was have a little wine, I threw pepper seeds in a container (and the seed was old) and I ended up with about 20 pepper babies! I had to give those plants away because I didn't have plans for a veggie garden and I had so many flowers to plant this year. That's one thing I didn't expect to happen.
Rose
Yes, Michaela. Seeds for wintersowing. Thanks.
Looking forward to seeing what everyone sends.
Okay - but you are going to miss some really nice seeds! Now to find 10 different kinds for winter sowing . . .
.. . the truth is, many seeds can be wintersowed. . . if you extend "winter" out to Spring and beyond! LOL
I was still sowing jugs in April & May.
So in other words, almost anything can be wintersowed??? So I wasn't like going crazy. Which is good because now I can really get going on getting those containers ready. I thought about doing petunias from seed. I did the wild petunia and they were beautiful - wonder if I can do any of the fancy ones.
I am no expert. . . I did WS petunias (both "Wave" and some ordinary petunia seeds from Botanical Interests as I recall) in the Spring and they germinated fine and went into my containers and window boxes. I still have a few hardy veterans blooming.
Sign me up. I have quite a few seeds and just got some more in last week.
I'd like to join! It's my first year to winter sow so I've been collecting a bunch.
~chele
I am happy to add the two of you on.
Oh, cheles_garden! You have no idea how many plants you will have! It is amazing! I could practically start a nursery!
Oh Seandor - how exciting! Now to get some potting soil before I forget and it's gone. :-) Something to look forward to over our winter....dreaming of little green sprouts.
How exciting!!! I received the first two packets today. Great variety of seed!!!
If it is open for European members, I would like to join. I can't send american postage, but I can send 2 dollar or pay by Paypall.
Jonna
