CLOSED: Help identifying this spider & advice requested!

Pacoima, CA

Hello! This spider has been living on my window sill for a few weeks now. I'm not normally tolerant of arachnids, but I kind of like this one because it's actually caught a few pests that have been flying around my kitchen.

Anyway, about three days ago, I suddenly noticed that this spider was hanging from it's web. As you can see in the photo, one of it's front legs(?) is stuck to some sort of thread that is attached to the main web above. Is this spider molting? It is still alive and I'm worried that if it's not molting, then it might somehow be caught in it's own web... I'm seriously considering cutting or tearing whatever thread is keeping it attached to it's web above. Any help/advice would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

This is a photo of what the spider normally looks like when it's on top of its web. Thank you in advance for any help!

This appears to be a hackled/hackle mesh orb weaver family Uloboridae) - see http://www.pbase.com/tmurray74/image/78924918 and http://www.arc.agric.za/uploads/images/3279_3279_Lacerbweb_vm.gif for examples. As far as I know, spiders in this family are unique in having no venom glands. I'm sorry that I cannot advise you on its odd posture in the first image - just keep an eye on it, and if it is still there in a few hours, try gently removing it.
