blooming in October

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

Sweetbay- I love 'Venus'. The photo and the flower.

Smithfield, NC

Thanks Shari. There will always be plenty of that to go around. :) I started with one plant last year and have 3 good stands of it now.

Jacksonville, NC(Zone 8b)

Heres something that bloomed for me this morning. There are several buds ready to open. I love your pics everyone.

Sweetbay, I hope that you have entered your "Venus" photo in the photo contest. It is beautiful and the raindrops on the blooms make it a winner in my opinion.
I have the pink which I have always thought that it is 'Clara Curtis" daisy. It looks alot like yours but is a soft pink. It is blooming now but I will look for "Venus".
Thanks for sharing your picture.

Lynda_45, I am going to put a hummingbird picture plus others in the contest, Thing is, I put most of my pics on cd ( Got a trillion!) And I don't want to have to go back through them and put them back on the puter so I'm going to go by what I allready have on the puter for pictures, And talking about pictures, That hibiscus you posted above seems huge! Love the color!

BSD, Nice full flush of Daisys in that pic! I got some daisys this year but they didn't do very well and I don't know why.

Deb, I think Gazanias are sooo pretty and colorfull! I love the lighting on that photo! All nice photos, I really like how white that hosta bloom looks!

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

More pretty fall daisy mums!

Sweetbay- does Venus have an upright or mounding habit? Niche's description of both it and SAK are the same 2-3 ft height. My SAK is about 18" and definitely wider than tall. I have one other passalong that is 3 ft tall. I'll post pics after the flowers open up some more.

Deb I like your alyssum. You do very pretty flower macros.

I'm grateful to see this bloom from Salvia regla 'Jame'. It's an October bloomer but the first year in my garden and I don't know how it handles frost- which I may very well have tonite:(

Great photos! We're all so lucky to have such beauty this time of year.

Iris, do your Toad lilies set seed? Mine are going crazy this year, but the seed pods just fall off the plant while still green... I've taken them apart, and there are little undeveloped looking seeds inside.

Here's my Begonia Illumination... a little flashier than I realized it was going to be :) Its taken over my pots!

klstuart, Your right! And so many pretties for this time of year!
I don't know much about the toad lilys, I had some planted last year which didn't seem to do well, And this year I had moved them and they seemed to do much better, I went up back to take a few photos, But, Didn't really notice any seed pods, I'll have to check it out better tomorrow.
Looks like your Begonia Illumination is doing quite well!!

Jacksonville, FL(Zone 9a)

That begonia looks wonderful. I have one called Bellagio which looked pretty similar when I got it but does not have any flowers now. I think it is probably too hot here for tuberous begonias but I am willing to try anything. What are you doing to that baby?

Simpsonville, SC(Zone 7b)

Well, it's on an automatic dripper that waters twice a day for 5 minutes. It is on a porch on the North side of the house (a little eastern sun in the am).

I literally haven't done anything for months! My DH piled a bunch of shelves against the french doors (we're renovating the room that leads to the porch) and I haven't been able to get out to the little raised porch for months. It got osmocote at the beginning of the season, and that's it.

It's done alright all summer, but really taken off since we've started to get cooler nights here, so you may be right about the heat... Though we get pretty hot most of July-September. I'm definitely doing more of these next year, and I'm trying to root some cuttings of this one (well a relative of it that lives in a pot I can get to anyway!)

Smithfield, NC

BSD thank you. I love the single fall mums too. I got Venus from Niche Gardens. Yours looks like it could be Clara Curtis, Ryan's Pink or Country Girl. It's beautiful.

Shari I'd say Venus forms a tall mound, about 2 1/2- 3' high by 3' wide.

Here's my noid tall daisy mum.

I love the dewdrop pictures.

This is Buddleia "Petit Indigo". The only thing petit about this Buddleia is the leaves. It gets quite big.

Amazing pic, Deb:-)

I like the Alamanda pic too Deb.

Sweetbay- Hansa's color is so rich and beautiful! I missed seeing the iris the other day. Is this your first year with it or has it rebloomed for you before?

Smithfield, NC

Thanks Deb! I don't think I've seen Alamanda before. From the angle of the picture it looks a lot like Carolina Jessamine. Very nice background in the photograph.

Chamthy I think this is my second year with Harvest of Memories, and the first year it has rebloomed. It's increased a lot too.

Georgetown, SC(Zone 8a)

Thanks, guys.
Sweetbay, I never thought of that before, but the Alamanda blooms do look alot like C. Jessamine. They're quite a bit larger though; a relative of Mandevilla. The flower in the pic is about 2" across.

Pretty photo of the sage with the mums in the background, Sweetbay.

Seabrook, SC(Zone 8b)

Sweetbay, that mum is lovely. I like that it isn't that stiff pom pom that you see everywhere.

Selma, NC(Zone 7b)

I love the Pineapple Sage photo. Beautiful!

My 'Royal White' crinum is blooming now too.

Thanks Deb, bordersandjacks, and Chamthy. I first fell in love with that mum at the JC Raulston Arboretum and picked it up at Niche Gardens.

Chamthy, great pic of the insect on the mum. It's beautiful.

Chamthy: He is perfectly color coordinated, that bug!

Blue Ginger (thanks, Alice!) just opening today. Yay.
