Tom: Gorgeous "Painted Lady". I haven't seen one yet this year, and only 1 Monarch. :(

blooming in October
Whoa, Sweetbay: That aster is gorgeous! Is it truly aromatic? What is the fragrance like? Want some seed, please. Will send SASE. I'll build my own list this winter so you can see if I have anything next year that you'd like. I may have some crinum `Summer Nocturne' to share (bulb).
The foliage is aromatic -- it's sticky and has a sweet scent that's like a mixture of pine and new-cut hay. It's a low-growing aster -- about 18", although it will climb into surrounding plants -- and quite well-behaved.
It should be setting seed in 2-4 weeks.
Ardesia: I love seeing the shots from Brookgreen. We're usually at Pawleys this week each year, but had to change our plans - so I'm missing my annual visit!
Sweetbay: Your Muhlys are lovely. I have one, but not sure which it is. I'll photo it today and post it. Maybe someone can narrow it down for me. Anyhow, I love them.
M. capillaris and filipes look the same, but the filipes forms a bigger clump than capillaris and in this area (piedmont NC) blooms in the month of Oct, starting about a month later than capillaris. Both species are easy to grow from seed.
Pretty nasturtium, Debin.
Very pretty, I just planted nasturtium seeds yesterday, so hopefully I'll have some blossoms in a few weeks.
We have had more than 7" of rain in the last week. The plants and the mosquitoes are loving it.

Here's a shrub I saw in my neighborhood the other day. Does anyone grow this successfully? I've never seen it before. Most of the plants/photos that were posted above I have never seen or heard of. I would like to know where you get these neat plants! Wow! Ohio has nothing like these!!

Greenthumb: That's Beautyberry or Callicarpa and my neighbor in Kannapolis has it planted. I had it in Asheville, but haven't yet planted it down here. It's gorgeous in the fall.
Thanks, Hemophobic. I love nasturtium.
Greenthumb, I have a Beautyberry in my garden, although the berries look alot more purple than in the nichegardens pic. I've never tried to save seeds or root a cutting before, but I'd be happy to give it a shot if you'd like.
Alice, we've also had tons of rain, bout 5" in the past few days. Sun came out today tho, finally.
