Nancy your mind works like mine .... mini streps! Think of the possibilities!! LOL We need Bonnie to give us a list of the ones she knows of!
Gail how nice of you to do all that watering for your cousin! Hmm, does she have any plants you admire that might need a bit of pruning while she's gone?? LOL
This is the first flush of blooms on Ozark Blue Popcorn .... you have to love the David Harris sinns!!

September Blooms, Part 3
Jan, my first sinn Guttata bloom did last until I arrived back home! I hadn't thought to check for a scent though....
but now I have four more of these gorgeous blooms all open at once and if I catch it just right there is the slightest floral scent to me.
I LOVE this plant and these blooms ....
~Brenda
Brenda............it is so nice to see you again and love all your flowers! I might just have to take a small piece of Terry's plants while she is gone.
I was in Walmart yesterday and they had a new shipment of violets. I picked up this one, and I'm sorry I didn't buy more. I have to sneak these plants in the house. I have way too many (orchids, hoya, and now gessies). I also have some epiphyllum, succulents, cactus etc. Need I say more?
Here is a picture of my beauty. It's an Optimara, so I went to their website and I think it's 'Devotion'.
Tomorrow I'm going back and get a few more. LOL.
Wow so many beautiful plants ladies! Hats off to your friend Gail for growing that AV so nice..
Syrumani, your sinningia is to cute,I love the color.
Oh Brenda, wow, wow, wow,The mini strep is too cute! Love it.Sinningia guttata is awesome.I hope keyring reads this about it having a scent. She asked me one time but I didn't smell anything on mine when it bloomed.
Hi Bonnie, your strep liliputana is a cutie too.Has it bloomed yet for you? The picture I saw of it looks pretty.
WOW, what a great find at walmart imadigger, that a beautiful AV!
WE used to see Optimara avs in nurseries here but not anymore. That one is great and I don't blame you for wanting to go back and raid the place!
Beautiful Blooms, Gail! That last one, Northwood's Purple Lightening is Awesome!
Maybe that is pollen you are seeing? Do you have a magnifying glass to see if they are moving? I hope it's not some little critters!
Gail,Northwoods are Belisles own hybrids, thats why they are the only ones that carry them,Im sure gary makita dont have any but he might
JIM
Are thrips the only reason there may be pollen spread out? Maybe the pollen was very dry, and couldn't hold on any more? I was pricing AVID last night, and that stuff is expensive!
Im told you can disbud them, and then spray raid on a rag and place your plant inside of a plastic bag and it will get rid of thrips, several plants can be placed in the bag,but the most important thing is to disbud them if you suspect thrips.pollen is one of their main food sourses,
JIM
raids a little cheaper then avid, but raid wont work on mites
but a pinch of cinnomon will on the crown, well on violets ,i imagine it will work on streps too, anything that has a crown
all my plants look healthy...........I am going to assume it is not thrips but I do keep avid on hand all the time.....................
I took my 30x magnifying glass and it is just pollen...........

Hi All,
Well have not been feeling to well here.. Everyones pictures are so pretty... Yesterday I did wich almost all my plants and hope today to put them on the shelfs a little better... I need to know can you wick Kohleria's and Sinns? Thanks for any help.
Hugs,
Susan
While I was searching last night, I found this: http://www.bayeradvanced.com/product/3-in-1-Insect-Disease-and-Mite-Control/ready-to-use.html . It has thrips on the list of "kills".
It is not the one that I have right now . . . I have this: http://www.gardensafe.com/ProductCategories/indoorinsecticide/Fungicide3/ . It was what I could find locally, when I noticed I may have some powdery mildew. It takes care of multiple issues, including alot of bugs. Thrips are not on the list, though. Lot's of different mites, although it doesn't specifically say cyclamin mites. I've only sprayed one plant so far (I wanted to make sure the AV would survive!) - it says safe for house plants, but I needed a test subject . . .
Hi Susan, sorry your family has been under the weather! I know the sinns would love to be wicked .... maybe someone else will chime in on the Kohlerias ....
So if I'm following the thread right a pinch of cinnamon on a violets crown and probably on a streps will take care of mites?? Not an issue I've had to deal with but it is the one critter that scares me the most when it comes to my plants!!
~Brenda
I've heard some folks talk about using cinnamon for fungal infections on plants but I don't know if it would kill insects. I've never tried it.
Found this while googling: http://www.terrainathome.com/index.cfm/fuseaction/content.page/nodeID/a3833256-795d-4895-a0a0-2793b5bb2e96/
I drove out to Seguin this morning . . . and only bought 1 plant!!!
Why??????????????????????? There are so many wonderful plants but no gesneriads!
What's the plant you bought? Curious minds really want to know!
She just told me in a dmail that it was an episcia.............the only gesneriad she could find there........
Oh, I saw hoya's in bloom - beautiful burgundy balls. There was something that smelled oh, so sweet - but couldn't find the source. I saw things I wanted that weren't even tagged with a name . . . they had tomato plants with huge tomatoes on them . . . I almost got another iron cross begonia, because mine looks real sad . . . there was even a pot of what looked like green corkscrew sticks.
All I got was an Episcia - Chocolate Soldier. I'd take a picture, but my mother has my camera.
I gotta hand it to you Syru ... I can't imagine going to that nursery and leaving with only one plant! Gail has posted photo's awhile back of that nursery and it is amazing!
It was easy 'cause I only took $20.00 with me . . . on purpose! I also had DD with me, and after an hour, she wanted me to carry her. It was really a recon mission . . . to see what there was. It would take a weekend - overnight camping - to go into each greenhouse and go down each isle.
I have forgotten about those days of "Hold me, Mama". My youngest grandchild can still do that but the rest are too big for carrying any more except in the case of an emergency.
That is hard work on your part to be looking and carrying, too! This is why I don't mind being 66 years old (LOL)
Oh, you are sooo good! I'd be hiding money from myself in pockets, in my shoe, in the bottom of my purse! LOL. Aaah, but I don't have any little ones who would require attention and side track me. Guess if I ever get to Texas and a chance to visit that nursery ... that will be the secret ... borrow someone's child!
But, that sounds like my kind of weekend ... I could spend a whole week in greenhouses and nurseries! I'd go broke for sure!
Look what I found starting to bloom today ... another Orchid! I am loving this one. I posted the photo and the name over on the OT thread. I can't remember the name without going and finding the thing that came in the package when I bought it. Funny though, the label that came with it describes it as: Summer blooming sprays of fragrant white flowers. It has white with kinda pale green edges and the purple lips. Sooo pretty. Oh, I just realized it says it's fragrant! I forgot to smell it! Tomorrow morning I am going to stick my nose in it to see if it smells good!
Lin, I do believe that may be the prettiest orchid I have seen. Where do you buy yours???? Inquiring minds HAVE to know......................just truly gorgeous and so healthy.
Well, she is just shy of being 2 1/2 years old . . . and she was SO good - until she started getting tired. I had her walking for quite a bit! She kept asking "what's this"? It was so cute! She REALLY wanted to pet the bird!!!
OH............how precious..........I didn't realize she is only 2 and one half years old.........that is a baby. My grandchildren said, "Hold me" until they were almost 5!!!!!!!!!!!!! What a little trooper you must have!
Gail, it's one I bought from Wal-Mart about a year ago. It's one that comes in the little teeny pot, in the plastic bag. Better Grow is the brand and Home Depot sells them too! I just went and got the cardboard thing that came with the plant. The card says: Sumer blooming sprays of fragrant white flowers and shows the name: EPICATTLEYA EL HATILLO 'PINTA' HCC/AOS
The back of the info card says, upright sprays on vigorous growing compact plant, a primary hybrid between the Florida native Epidendrum Tampense and the Venezuelan specie Cattleya Mossiae. The awarded plant had 56 flowers and 41 buds on 21 inflorescences.
I'm not sure why it says white flowers because they are white with pale green edges and a purple lip. I sure love it ... my first ever Catt type to bloom! I can't wait until tomorrow morning so I can go stick my nose in it and see if it is fragrant!
Syrumani: Oh, that is so cute! I'm assuming there was a pet bird at the nursery? Your little one is at that cute age where they are sooo curious about everything! How I'd love to have a grand baby that age!
I just said on the other thread that I am tracking these Better GRow Orchids down in my area at the end of this week................
If your Wal-Mart doesn't have them, Home Depot does!
