September Blooms, Part 3
Looks kinda sad, doesn't it? Blame it on the still picture feature on the camcorder . . . I don't know . . . maybe it needs repotting.
I think its adorable Syru...very pretty bloom!
Hi All,
I think it looks great... very pretty... GAIL thank you so much but I want you to know I was only joking but won't say no to them coming... I owe you....
Hugs,
Susan
I have typed a message three times and it disappeared.........................frustrating.........
My message will be shorter this time anyway............great sinningia........they hate me and I hate sinningias.....(the little ones.....not the big ones)
Susan................you better tell me what you want me to finish filling this box...........if it is coming your way...........better add something to it............
Look what Nichole grew from a leaf..........a micro mini trailer.................it is just the best........Tiny Wood Trail
Gail - you may want to double check on first class . . . it was critterologist who told me it may be a micro-mini months ago . . . but I've seen it called a mini on other sites. I still think it's cute, and can't wait for mine to bloom!
thanks but it doesn't matter to me............
Tiny Wood Trail (L. Ray) Single blue. Miniature trailer
The picture is so pretty covered in blue tiny flowers.............there is a way for me to get the picture but I need the computer tech back over here to show me again..........I am soooooo computer challenged. It isn't fair ............why doesn't it make sense to me? I don't know............
Gail, What a cutie that is! I had to go to AVSA and look up Tiny Wood Trail to see the blooms: http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/TinyWoodTrailLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/TinyWoodTrailLrg.jpg%23
What a great looking plant!
Thanks Lin...........I forget about going to AVSA
Help, Goldleaf or someone who knows african violets well.........my friend Betty just came in with a violet that she picked up at Lowes or Walmart and has been growing it for a year. Please help me with ID. The plant is simply magnificent with all the pink and white. The white is really a light pink.
Hubba Hubba Gail..that av just made my heart skip a beat..Wish I could help you with an ID but I am no good at that..Gorgeous Plant Tho!!..and I love Tiny Wood Trail too : )
That is a pretty one, Gail! I think - short of dna tests - that the only way to find out which one it could be would be to contact the nursery that supplies Lowes or Walmart with their violets. They should at least be able to narrow down the list of possibilities.
Here's the link to a pic I took of a rescue I did from Walmart earlier this year: http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/fp.php?pid=4906579 . Would really like to know which one it is!
Wowsers! Those are both wonderful AV's, Gail and Syrumani! Just Beautiful!
I was in Wal-Mart a few days ago and they had Optimara AV's back ... lots of 'Annabelle' and a couple of 'Isabelle'. At least when they have the Optimara paper wrapped around the pot you know you can go to the their website to look for a possible ID, but not knowing what nursery they came from it's probably almost impossible. Gail, maybe when yours blooms someone will recognize it. And, hopefully Syru, someone will see yours and know right away too and be able to give you a name.
Whatever they end up being, they are just downright gorgeous!
Yours is pretty....................have no idea but I really think that at some point I gave Betty this plant grown from leaf as I always do for her.....................She just has to be Wrangler's Pink Patches, I think. (I grew a lot of them from leaf last year that Goldleaf had sent me and I tons of babies)
Gail, I bet it could be Wranglers Pink Patches! http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/Wrangler'sPinkPatchesLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/Wrangler'sPinkPatchesLrg.jpg%23
and of course Snowrose's photo in Plant Files: http://davesgarden.com/guides/pf/showimage/135448/
You win LIn!!!!!!!!!!!! I never even thought of checking out our own plant files. That is she!
Now..............tah..... dah................Look what I traded and have been working all afternoon getting the peat moss ready and sterilized, getting the bark out and the spaghnum moss for orchids from Amy in a trade. The whole time I was packing her plants, I was so mad telling Amy I would never send that many plants in a trade to anyone else again............even for orchids. But now that I have them in their new home, I would do it over again.
They are on their way out the door to the front porch with my other orchids.
Good heavens that violet is gorgeous, Gail!
Wow Gail that is a beautiful AV... You know me as most times I say I don't really like them but that one is wonderful... Ok put that in the box also....LOLOLOL
Hugs,
Susan
Wow, You hit the jackpot there with the Orchids Gail! I have about ten or twelve left after the birds and squirrels got a hold of them this summer. Last week I moved them all to another tree in the backyard. I have one with four pretty white blooms opened and one purple one with buds, a yellow one with buds and another that I don't remember the color. I just fed them a couple of weeks ago so I guess they are happy. I have no clue as to the names since the "critters" decided to pull the tags out and leave them on the ground under the trees!
Except for one orchid I ordered from Brennans, these are my very first 'named' orchids...Now we will see how long the tags stay in the right pot.
Susan, I will send you a leaf of Wrangler's Pink Patches in your box tomorrow. Isn't my friend nice to give her to me! The biggest problem is finding enough leaves with enough green (for chlorophyll) to stick and make it.
Has anyone ever grown this one? http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/Kei-YokiLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/Kei-YokiLrg.jpg#
She didn't get THAT at Walmart...no way in you know where. Guessing from the photo and it's just a guess...I'd say offhand Wr. Pink Patches. Pink Patches has the most outstanding foliage. That is one gorgeous plant, Gail.
Our Walmart would never in a million years carry any av that looks anything like Wrangler Pink Patches..That is sure a beauty gail : )
Syru..I have Kei Yoki..its still a young plant only in its 2nd flush of blooms..I can hardly wait til its fully grown..I just love the blooms even tho my camera doesn't do it justice at all : (
Did you grow it from a leaf, or did you get it as a baby plant? I was browsing the pix when I saw that one . . . my jaw pretty much dropped! There is a Yoki, too . . . http://www.avsa.org/Photographs/YokiLrg.jpg#http://../Photographs/YokiLrg.jpg#
I told myself I wasn't going to get any leaves to start over the winter, but I may have to reconsider!
Nichole, I think your Sinn. looks very nice! A camera can really help or hurt the appearance of a plant. I have the most awful time getting blooms to photograph the correct color. Either way, yours is a cutie!
Gail, I love the tiny AV! And the variegated one has probably the most beautiful foliage I've ever seen. Grow me one from leaf, how bout it? I've never killed such a gorgeous plant and would love to have the opportunity! LOL I'm doing better with the self-watering pots, though, so it might just have a chance.
I'm so glad you're happy with the Orchids! Ladies, Gail was so aggravated and mad when she was packing my box, I actually called her to see if she was mad at me personally! LOL I sort of felt guilty! She sure sounded happy when she got the box of Orchids yesterday, so I felt better. ^_^ Keep up with the tags, Gail. It's important with Orchids...
Nancy, Kei Yoki is gorgeous!
Pardon me if I sound loopy. I got stung by a yellow jacket yesterday and took Benadryl, which knocks me on my rear. I slept for over 12 hours and feel like I have a hangover. And my whole foot hurts from getting stung. :oP
On a happier note, check out this gorgeous Strep 'Purple Panda' I bought from Nancy on the Marketplaces a couple weeks ago. Nancy sent her full of buds and they've opened and I honestly think it's my favorite of all my Streps! *cough* Nancy has leaves on the Marketplace now! *cough*
I have so enjoyed catching up on the end of blooms part 2 and now with blooms part three!! I've been out of town or had company to the point of no DG, no fair when life takes DG from me. LOL
Syrui your S Rebecca times self was a great start to the new thread! Nancy Kei Yoki is to die for!! Amy I just potted up a Purple Panda baby and I sure hope it grows up as pretty as yours!!!
I bought seeds for the miniature strep Cyanandrus last fall and grew them over the winter. The plants are little and I ended up with only 3 in the end. But ......... my first bloom opened yesterday and I can not be happier with this little beauty of a streptocarpus!! ^_^
~Brenda
Wow! Good job! It is soo cute. Congratulations! Lou
Oh my goodness, Brenda that is the cutest little thing! I had no idea there was such a thing as a mini strep! Great Growing!
Amy: Purple Panda is sooo pretty! Love the colors! I saw where Nancy had tons of leaves for sale, unfortunately Strep's don't do so well for me.
Nancy: Wow! That AV Kei Yoki is Wonderful! That has to be one of the prettiest blooms I've ever seen on an AV. I've never heard of that one before, really nice! And, that one called Yoki that Syru linked to is really cool too. I'm assuming they (Yoki and Kei Yoki) are related? I just love the ruffly little edges on those gorgeous blooms!
Off Topic - Rain: Do you remember the name of this Mini Orchid I got from you in a trade? It's one of the ones the squirrels decided to steal the labels from. I thought I had made note in my Trade Tracker of the name but can't find it. I love this little plant! It has grown a little and seems very happy hanging out in the tree. I can't wait to see blooms on it some day!
bmedel;
i love that little plant cyanandrus, i just recenyly won it off ebay, i love minatures. it's doing pretty good. i tried to grow it from seed, but it did not do well for me.Gail i love that african violet, i think i will have to get that one.I love the foliage.i don't grow many of the reg. big violets, just some chimera's & mini violets.Kei Yoki is a really pretty plant also. I have yukako & it's one of my favorites as it blooms most of the time. Might have to get kei yoki, really pretty. The club i belong to will be haveing a show next month, i should be able to get them all there, i hope. lol
mrsbonnie
Lin you might like the little strep Cyanandrus as it says it does well in a terrarium environment!! ^_^ I have mine growing in one of those salad bowl terrariums.
Bonnie from the seeds I grew I ended up with six strep plants but I think some other kinds of strep seeds were mixed in because now three of the plants are getting big and three of them are small with the crinkly leaves like Cyanandrus.
Here is a picture of the six plants that grew from my Cyanandrus seeds .... the three in front look like they should but the three in back don't?? I'll leave them and let them bloom and see what I get I guess ...
~Brenda
wow, those 3 in the back do look different.i wonder how that happened. what did you plant your seed in, the medium i mean.here is a picture of mine, mine does not have crinkley leaves & has not bloomed yet. it's largest leave is 3 in lg.
bonnie
Brenda I figured you were busy planting leaves LOL
thats a nice plant,I dont think ive ever grown that one,I lean towards the bigger ones
but I do like them,i have fernwoods siloette,i adore it and its blooming, little gem is nice too
I planted the seeds in their own enclosed container in my mix which had been sterilized in the microwave ... so I think the Gesneriad Society had gotten some seeds mixed up .... heaven knows it would be easy enough to do with the tiny little things!
Jim my bazillion leaves from you are looking good! And Fernwoods Silhouette was one you sent so I'm really looking forward to it now! I also like the "Crystal" series from Dibley's with there smaller thinner leaves.
Bonnie I had not seen Liliputana, what another cutie! Here is a bloom on the Cheryl M sinningia you sent me, such a beautiful deep fuschia pink!
~Brenda
it was probally crystal dawn ,thats a real pretty one,but for me it only blooms in the winter
or spring, its worth waiting to see,
JIM
Thanks everyone..Syru..wish I could take the credit for starting her from a leaf but I gotta be honest..lol..my sister started it and then gave me a baby..I was tired of starting av leaves at the time but luckily she wasn't..If anyone wants a leaf to try they can sure have one when she gets a bit bigger : )
Amy..Purple Panda looks wonderful..gee tho..I am jealous..your blooms look even prettier than my mama plants..LOL..
Brenda that mini strep is adorable.. miniature streps..my wheels are turning now..ohh I can easily feel that becoming another major addiction..thinking of all the streps a person could have and such little space they would take up..cool!
Well I hope everyone is having a great weekend..I heard Kim up in Maine might be getting a Hurricane?? I never knew Maine had Hurricanes..hope all is well with her...
My cousin who lives down the road said earlier this week that they are headed for Maine on the beach tonight and stay for 10 days...............sure hope she is checking the news. She had asked me to water her plants. She has so many plants outside and I just could not not offer to water them..................
I love the mini streps and I love the long slender leafed ones like Crystal Dawn........
