no pics - made my send batch of gazpacho and tomorrow another 7 jars of tomatoes

Framingham, MA(Zone 6a)

Looks great Andy!!!! I only had 3 green pepers this year... my mom loves it!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

I stopped in to see Andy. ~~ Hi, Andy! miss you

here's the tomatoes. they were really piling up

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

and here's what they turned into. a beautiful pot of chili that lasted us 4 days. I don't do any canning any more

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

guess it's a big 'NO' on the corn-in-a-container experiment. just not enough to get it fertilized. I tried to do it myself, but I'm obviously no bee

also grown in a container, we got one nice little watermelon

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

we're still eating it. it got separated from the vine early by the wind, but was still sweet

not yet harvested, but looking good (probably doesn't qualify...doesn't look like a pie pumpkin)

one pumpkin on a volunteer vine in my rose garden. must have been dropped by a bird

Looks good, Jan. I had a bumper crop of paw paw this year. I'll try to get a shot later.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Jan, I thought about corn in a container for next year...
I was feeding the squirrels corn cobs, and had some volunteer stalks that I left in the garden. Wanted to see what happened. There were 3-4 ears on them, then my puppy pulled them out, and I think chomped on the ears, so, none left for the squirrels.

Brockton, MA(Zone 6a)

The chili looks good, Jan. I have one batch in individual bags in the freezer and two batches of chicken cacciatore frozen too. It's time to make more chili to use up all this stuff.

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Lovely peppers, Andy! And Jan, that pumpkin looks huge! I can't believe you grew a watermelon that big in a container! Wow!

Here are the last vestiges of the garden from today.....brunswick stew tomorrow.......

I'm cheating here by including some citrus shots from our little Fla. grove, but here is a collage of our gardens' fruits and veggies.....

Did you get a frost last week, Donnie?
It's getting close to stew time, isn't it.
Andy P

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

Andy - I don't think it actually got as cold as they predicted (31). We are up on top of a mini-mountain, so we often don't get the frost that they get in the valleys below us, but it was pretty chilly one morning. Nothing has bitten the turf yet, but yes......it is definitely time for stew....tomorrow, in fact!

Thomaston, CT

Made stew last night---cubed lean pork, chopped cabbage (from the garden), onions, garlic, the carrots from the garden, sliced apples, carraway seed, white wine & served with bakery rye & mustard. Picked 3 summer squash yesterday, & a handful of beans---have a lot of beets to use. DH keeps saying it's time to rototill, but I wait til last min.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Mmmmmm. Sounds wonderful, Robin.

My garlic is hanging in the mud room. Smells good :) It's 'Music', the first time I've grown a hardneck. I didn't know you had to cut off the stalks so the heads would grow bigger. When I think about it, it makes sense. I used some in the chili, we've had garlic bread, and I made a pork roast, cut little slits in it and stuffed in slivers of the garlic. Yum!! Nice mild flavor. I'm going to have to try roasting some.

'dug' my potatoes this week, too. didn't really have to dig because I grew them in a fabric tub. nice experiment. they did well except they are really small...too much N in the fert. I'll know better next year. but, boy, do they taste good. when I brought them in, I cleaned up a bunch of the marble sized ones and boiled them for lunch. just slathered them with real butter. it's decadent.

pretty soon the garlic will get planted for next year's crop. I've been prepping the beds!!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

my garlic is going in the rose garden this fall. I have 3 different varieties and I'm planting it in batches here and there to protect my roses from the 'nasties'. we'll see if it works.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Vampire problems in the rose bed, Jan??

Thomaston, CT

Never planted garlic---sounds like an easy crop, but don't know where to store it--I imagine it needs cool & dry---my garage gets cold! Have had dahlias freeze in there, even though I thought they were protected.

Millionaire at 12:30 weekdays. Anyways here was a 8,000 dollar question today (not a hard question for all the contestants)!! IN THE GARDEN
Now I am saying OK lets go....

The question:
It it a perennial and comes back every year, it dont need to be reseeded.
A. Zuchinnis
B. Aspargus
C. Pumpkins
D. Cucumbers

So the contestant had used all the life lines except the x2. The person had 2 times to get the right answer. Person LOST and went poof ..............

I GOT IT RIGHT!!!!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Sherrie, would it be B) asparagus? when do I get my $8,000?

When ya go on Who Wants to Be a Millionaire and answer the question Right :-)

Clinton, CT(Zone 6b)

Did a "fresh for smoked" trade of bhut jolokia peppers. Below is the before and after. They're so hot I don't know what I'll use either for. Maybe put a teeny piece in pepper jelly.

Thumbnail by David_Paul

I will take asparagus, zuchinni, pumpkin, and cukes - Thank you. Do you want a fresh bhut??? I will trade seeds.

Salem Cnty, NJ(Zone 7b)

Mom loves 'millionaire'. She usually is eating her lunch at that time. I sooooo want to go on there.

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

There was a time I might have taken a run at Millionaire, but between the fibromyalgia that has affected my memory and the drugs I take that have made it worse, I now feel that I am one of those people who needs extra credit for getting their name and date right on a test LOL Oh well, it all looks easy from home.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Harvested most of the garden, 3 kinds of squash, gourds and pumpkins in the wheel barrel.

What a haul, celeste!!! I love butternut squash.

South China, ME(Zone 5a)

Me too!

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

Me three.

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

four

Southwest , NH(Zone 5b)

I LOVE those colors in your harvest pic, Celeste. Very nice!!

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

Wow, looks great Celeste. I have my one pumpkin to bring in LOL. Still need to pick the green tomatoes and say an 'amen' to the last of the patio garden. No frosts predicted yet, though.

Thomaston, CT

That would make a nice painting, Pixie, but good eating as well. Talked to a friend last night--she served penne pasta with roasted butternut squash & grilled shrimp---I don't eat the shrimp, but probably would be good with chicken. I've made butternut squash raviola, with fresh sage & butter--that's good, too!

S of Lake Ontario, NY(Zone 6a)

Oh, I had pumpkin raviloi in a creamy pesto sauce - it was so good. That was last year in the city.

Lower Hudson Valley, NY(Zone 6b)

That does sound yummy.

Thomaston, CT

Had a veggie lasagna today with squash from the garden--here is a yellow squash that just won't quit!
