Planted my garlic. Around 25 cloves. I am hoping that will be enough this time. Unfortunately, the original cloves were purchased by my friend's mother and she has no idea who the seller was. It was at a fall festival somewhere. The garlic is amazing. I purposely didn't eat much of it this summer as I was saving as much as possible for this fall's planting. The weather didn't cooperate. I only had Saturday. Sunday rained - The two raised beds are all set. I was thinking of planting some lettuce, but I think I will let them rest. I still have to prep one more bed. This summer it did terrible. When I finally bought a soil test kit and checked it out, I found that it had almost no nitrogen. That will be one of the projects for next weekend...is it here yet???
Edibles '08 -Part 4
I dont know but my long lost sweet tooth has popped in. I think I need to go buy a cheese cake or something donuts, apple pie or make some stupid pudding. My all time icecream record was shattered this summer. I had 3 icecream cones :-/ I did not eat one of those in like 10-15 years. Something is kicking in. Salivating for something................... Apple crisp, boston cream donut, bannana bread. Thats it I am on the road , outta here maybe come back over weight.
only 3?
Wow--sounds serious, Sherri! I never used to eat sweets---liked salty instead--But--the older I get, the more I crave dessert--am trying to be good with nofat yogurt! Is stupid pudding a real dessert?
Stupid pudding! LOL You always make me laugh, Sherrie! I vote for the Boston cream donut!....and the apple crisp.....oh, and how about some pumpkin bars? Now you've got me wanting those things too.....Rats!
Double rats!!
Same thing happened to me about 3 weeks ago, went thru one of those huge halloween bags of mini hershey bars and a bag of peppermint patties in about a week and a half. ugh
Anyone ever watch that BBC America show called You Are What You Eat?
Now I can't even look at half the things I want to eat.
That's what I need to watch. lol Well, we are getting cable next week so maybe I can.
Be forewarned!! It's BRUTAL! The lady who is host gets right to the heart of the trouble.
The eye opening part is when she prepares a table of what that person has consumed in an entire week. What they usually show I would need THREE extensions in my kitchen table to fit it all!!!
At first I thought she was kind of extreme and mean, but in the end you see she is truly concerned about people and genuine about their well-being.
I also watch the show before that How Clean Is Your House? Now THAT is a show I should be on!! :-)
Why? Because your house is spotless?
Oh, YES! ...... Quite Spotless!
Not!
Well, I am no where's near as bad as the homes they try to help. Those ladies would probably give me a solid C+.
If you count it based on the worst episode I have seen, I would give me an A-.
The one episode was a working farm house that had not seen a duster or mop for 20 years!
I may be a guy, but I won't use a dirty loo, or cook in a kitchen less than spotless.
The two WONDERFUL characters (Kim and Aggie) are tops! and "So funny, Love"
Since mom doesn't read much cuz of her eyesight she watches a lot of TV. Game shows like Jeopardy and Millionaire keep her mind active, but there is only SO much on the regular channels. I am looking forward to things like The History Channel. We will have fun checking things out.
One of my personal favorites! History! (and Discovery) (and A&E) (and the Garden Networks) (and National Geographic) .......
I also confess ..... The Cartoon Network fills in many a gap in programming!!
:-)
I'd be in so much trouble if I had cable, as it is I discovered you can watch some full episodes online of HGTV.
lol cartoon network - Do they have Rocky and Bullwinkle?
Jen, I must say I'm looking forward to HGTV
We always watch Victory Garden on PBS on Sat. morns.
No Rocky & Bullwinkle :-(
Actually, I watch Boomerang more, which is only Hanna-Barbera stuff
:-)
No way, Sherrie! Ours are wild and they grow up and all around a big old MacIntosh Apple tree. It has taken them years to get to the point where we can harvest enough grapes. I can only speak from our experience, but we haven't found them invasive.
Oh, a MacIntosh apple tree! They have always been my favorite. I love them in a crisp or fried apples with french toast. YUM. Uh-oh, I know what is going to be coming out of the oven next week.
Already did the Apple Crisp, Apple Pie, Apple-pear Coffee Cake.
Also did Carmel Apples too!! lol
When the blueberries were ready I did Blueberry Dumplings, Blueberry Pie, and Blueberry Muffins and then froze the rest.
yummmmmmmmmm.
my grandmother used to make plum and strawberry pierogis... man do i miss those... thanks for the memory Pixie

The link worked for me. There was a orthodox church near where I used to live that had a pierogie sale every year, they were THE BEST EVER!!!!
I wish I had a spot for blueberries. I just don't have a spot that will be sunny enough for them. I am totally running out of room!
Too bad. Their flowers are nice and the fall color is spectacular.
I picked a single fig yesterday. I am underwhealmed by my crop.
Could always use the leaf!
AYC, sounds like my zucchini harvest lol.
A cousin from CA. brought some fig jam she and her daughter made. Haven't opened it yet. I'll think of you though when we do. Are there anymore on the tree?
There are a few - but they are tiny and winter is coming. Guess I will cover the tree this winter - which I hate to do because it is in the front of the house and it will make the weeds look good.
Chuckling to myself about weeds looking good. They better look good at my house, especially in the lawn, since that is basically the only thing in the lawn.
How's the cat's wound?
