Hurricane Ike Landfall

Caneyville, KY(Zone 6b)

I'm so glad to hear all of you came through Ike safe! I can't imagine how terrible both going through the storm and seeing the damage afterwards must be. Hopefully the cleanup will go quickly.

Ric, Thanks for that link. I think most people believe that "it'll never happen to us". Who would have thought that a hurricane would reach us clear up here!

We're up here working in Ky across the river from Madison, Indiana. I feel guilty for being without electricity for only 36 hours. But not being at home with all of our emergency supplies, it was miserable. I was lucky Sunday afternoon to find both a solar lantern and a handcrank lantern/radio at Walmart before they closed. By Monday morning, they were out of camp stoves, lanterns, batteries and ice.

My thoughts and prayers are with you all. Robin

Yes, we all are stunned to see the damage that it causes and deaths in the upper states. Mother Nature is a beast at times; and this time her name was IKE!

The Fema mobile homes started being delivered today to Beaumont. That is pretty quick b/c after Katrina they had to have utilities before we could start putting mobile homes on sites. The guys are sleeping in their trucks again tonight because there are no hotel rooms available as far up as Jasper. They are hoping to make another deliver tomorrow.

I left DG last February for health reasons. My Oncology says cancer lol isn't tough enough to keep me down.

Hey, Charlie! Glad to hear you're not letting it get the best of you. Way to go! Love your websites. I bookmarked them to go back and read more later.

So do I understand this right, you rode out Ike in a camper?

Fort Worth, TX(Zone 8a)

Looks like you did fair better than for Rita. I thought about you after Ike, when people were checking in, but forgot to ask anyone if they had heard from you. I know you hadn't posted in a very long time. Glad to see you are back on DG. Your garden method looks like you are a serious farmer!! If I was close, I would sure pay you a visit at your stand. Best of luck to you, the wife and grandkids.

For all you folks that had damage to your plants or lost em from flooded out areas from the storms, here ya go.

http://davesgarden.com/community/forums/t/909682/

There alot of us folks with extra seeds and plants that want to help ya out.

Just pick from whats there and also, put what ya looking for cuz alot of us have things that we just dont have listed up and willing to share. It easier to know what ya looking for and need if ya tell us.

My sister & BIL also lost their house in IKE. It was on Crystal Beach (Cloon & Sea Spray). I'm thankful that it wasn't worse.

Sandi that is absolutely devastating!!!! I remember being a child and going to Clemont Harbour after Camile and that's what I remember of my Aunt's camp!!!! We found 2 pots from the kitchen and that was all that was left of a 4 BR camp. That sight has never left me and it was relived after Katrina!!!

Please know that our prayers are with you Texas!!!! It may be hard to believe and won't be over night but it will get better. We're like that silver that the silver smith is working that has to go thru the fire to make it harder!!! We're thru the fire and we'll all be stronger!!! God be with Yall as you put your lives back together!!!

Amen to that!! That picture breaks my heart.

Luckily, my BIL left WAY before the storm hit (their 2nd home is in McKinney 'cause my sister went gone back to school at 42 to become a chiropractor, only a few more years to go). He grabbed what little he could (plus they didn't think it would be that bad). They recovered very little when they were finally allowed back on Bolivar. They never even found 1/3 of their home (their bedroom).

Here's the link to my sister's site: http://www.qualitygeek.com/beach.html. They're now working on their property list for their insurance. They were told to not claim that they had any antiques too (that it would slow down the claim).
