dmj, nice to see perhaps the restoration of power is moving quickly now!
Hurricane Ike Landfall
My city, Fort Worth has sent 33 city vehicles and crews down to help in Galveston. We all take our city workers for granted until something like that happens.
Sorry to say our crews have been called back from the Gulf.
Plus we have crews from TN, PA, NC AND SC on their way here in SW OH and Northern KY also.
We just thought we'd wave at Ike as it breezed by..... WRONG!
Last night 2 Million people were w/o power in OH.
Tonight still about 600,000.
That's about 1000 miles from landfall in Galveston!
Hope this gets sorted out fast so we can free up the crews to help you all!
Ric
Wow, I had no idea it was that far reaching!
Yep we're under a State of Emergency here in SW Ohio.
Mostly snapped telephone poles and downed trees...
Obviously not nearly as bad of damage here as down there but it's enough....
Ric
Do you have power?
I saw on the news how bad it was in OH. That is something you up there don't normally have to deal with in the early fall. Prayers for all involved.
Just got an email from rjuddharrison. The place he went to for sanctuary had early damage and all the sheetrock in the townhouse was wet. They left there and had a very difficult time getting to another "safe haven". Said the storm pounded them for 15-16 hours. His home is not damaged but the garden is a mess. Fence down and I have been there and know the description he is giving. Just awful. He is thankful that he is not hurt. Still no power and having a hard time keeping the cell phone charged....has to find someone with a generator.
Oh, Lord. Please be with all of your children tonight as they try to get through this tragedy.
Christi
Hope Randy and others will be able to get the help they need.
I got a dmail from Kim ( blue_eyes), everything is fine with her, and Mom & Dad. Plant damage some limbs but ok.
Trois' daughter (Singing Wolf) posted that Barbara (Trois' widow) and her brother are fine. Roof tiles wind damage but doing fine.
The pictures in the news and papers today were so bad on Galveston, I don't know how they will recover.
Hi guys,
Leaves and Trees! There are tree's in, on, over and through everything it seems.
Having a heck of a time keeping the cell charged, but there is electricity at work, and have been charging it, plus...email.
Wayne at Zone9 is okay, I helped him dig out, no dammage.
In fact that's all I've been doing is hauling pieces of trees.
the back garden and fence are trashed along with my nerves.
Anyone hear from Carter?
Rj
carter?
Are you at work?

Florida supposedly has 500 electrical repair crews and trucks headed your way. I'm sure that's just a start.
Being close to Hurricane Bulls Eye myself I sympathize and want you all to know it won't last forever.
Many prayers coming your way.
Sidney
Glad you finally came out of the closet and are OK!
Rebuilding and Replanting are do-able... Re-lifing not so much!
We got power back about 1 AM this morning.
I just heard from a few of my KY and Eastern OH friends so the power is coming on.
Remember here it's just wires.
Down there........ pretty much everything in certain areas
Ric
Thankfully, TX is blessed with a few cooler and lower humidity nights. That should offer relief to the victims and rescuers alike.
Glad to see most DGrs have reported in and survived. Looking for a few more.
The weather here this AM is alot cooler!!! I'm hoping my DG family in Southwest La. and Texas and other parts without electricity are more comfortable after the extreme heat and humidity of the past few days!!! Our prayers are still with Yall as you begin the enormous cleanup after THAT storm!!!!
It is just plain chilly in NTX this morning. The temp is in the mid 50s!
Whew! I'm so glad to see many of my TX friends back online and ok .. was really worried about you guys!

Land line still "flaky" but back on about lunchtime today. No cell signal, yet. Power back a little after noon.
Reportedly - Centerpoint has nearly half of their customers back on-line - but that still leaves over a million customers down.
I wonder if this storm went thru Red Oak, Texas?? I have been corresponding with another daves gardner there . Anyone know. I havent heard from her since the 15th. Fran
I happen to live in the community just next to Red Oak. We barely had drizzle on Saturday and just a mile breeze. I'm probably 10 miles from what might be considered "downtown" Red Oak as it is so small as to barely have a crossroads.....same as my community.
Is it Rita? She has been posting under Texas Forum of last blooms of the summer.
No damage here whatever.
Christi
We only got 1/2 inch of rain here in our area of Arlington, and no wind.
Josephine.

Thanks yes its Rita, Is that near the air port. I couldnt find it on the map tho it was listed . Glad you all escaped that monster. Thanks for letting me know. I just sent her a package and didnt know if you all were hit or not. Fran
There is an airport in Lancaster which is another small community that adjoins us both. I don't know exactly where her home is but none of us got any damage. The Lancaster airport is very small and mostly has a few old collectible planes and those that fly in good weather on the weekends. Sort of a hobby place.
Sendone2me, Rita's fine no damage. BUT she said the gas co. was putting in a new gas line, GUESS where ? Right thru her greenhouse! Will call her tonite or in morning. Jerry
Rj, Glad you are OK!!!! I know your tropical paradise will be bigger, better and more beautiful than ever! Jerry
True, sometimes it's even beneficial for some of the garden in ways not apparent at the moment!
Great attitude! I know you'll having fun next spring, after the misery of this has past.So glad to hear everyone checking in and for the most part O.K. Prayer still for those not so fortunate.
We haven't heard form Maggiemoo yet, I am worried.
Hopefully she just hasn't checked in since she wasn't too active on DG lately. If anyone has a phone number maybe they will try giving her a call.
Prayers for her and others safety even as they clean up from the damage.
Hi Jerry,
Oh my gosh that is terrible. She wrote but didnt say anything about that. Wow. we dont have gas here in our neighborhood. I wouldnt mind having a gas stove and furnace . Fran
OMG...I saw this interview on the news...this poor woman said she hasn't heard from her husband since one last cell phone call...he was on Galveston Island, stayed behind to secure the house before leaving, water was getting deep. It is so sad! Nobody can find him yet. I say forget the house, get out when you can! I wouldn't live near the beach if you paid me.
Josephine....I put in a dmail to Mary (Maggiemoo) but since she lives in Conroe, I am betting she is ok, just tree damage and no electricity. Pray she will check in soon.
My family in Conroe still has no power but they are all fine.
Thank you Sheila and Kay, that is probably it, no power.
Hi!
We are OK. Our homes are OK. Some roof damage. My garden was trashed.
My shed was lifted off the ground 2 1/2 feet and is propped up on the lawnmower handle! The canopy went down and is finnished! Only one plumeria snapped, but it is the one that I raised from seed. Most of the plants survived but are blown over on their sides.
We've been without power since Friday and without phones since Sat.. Fortunately we've had alot of canned food, cheese, and a Coleman battery operated lantern. It's been alot like camping. FEMA's been here so we received water, ice, and MRE's.
My yard crew came yesterday and cleaned up my yard. Out of 90 banana trees about 5 have leaves left on them. They did a good job cleaning up, so now we just have to rearrange the plants that surrounded the canopy before we can put a new canopy up. That was my "makeshift greenhouse" before winter comes again in a few months.
I am staying over at my Mom's until she gets power, so won't be on for awhile.
We were very blessed. It could have been alot worse. Galveston, and communities south of here really got hit hard.
Best wishes to all of you who went thru IKE also.
Jeanne
We had some roof damage, fence damage, and a huge pine tree that fell down, but our back yard sure does have more light now. A huge pecan tree went down in our next door neighbor's back yard too. We still don't have power, but are otherwise doing well.
Tabitha
There are still 250,000 w/o power here in OH and KY....
But as many have said...it's just power... once it's on we're OK.
We could be TX and looking at rebuilding!
Glad to see so many of you all checking in!!
Be Safe!
Ric
