Bird Watching: Daily Pics - Volume 136

Linthicum Heights, MD(Zone 7a)

Pelle, I didn't even notice that. The photo was not cropped at all. That's how close I was. I blew it up to 100% and it is not a band. It's actually a reflection or plant growth that meets exactly where his leg meets the water. But, it sure looks like a ring .......

Here's a shot from directly over his head ........

Last one for tonight .....

Here is the Green Heron looking up at me (sorta silly looking). He/she was so close his/her head is a little blurred ..... I think this was a young one because he/she was so little in comparison to others that I have seen and photographed.

I've never understood why they are green herons when they are so brown except mainly for the heads. when we lived in CT 30 yrs ago one hung out next to our small pond. Probably after the frogs & sunfish.

Pell, I would have said almost everything Linthicum did, to improve your stop motion shots, except one. I almost never have enough light to shoot at 1/1000 of a second. We are now at the twelfth consecutive day of intermittent showers and heavy cloud cover. Most of the pictures I shot today, during a break between showers, were shot at at 1/100 sec. @ F 3.6. Under such poor light conditions there is no hope of taking a good crisp shot, of a moving target. This shot is the best of three, I accidentally caught of a Jay in flight, with the camera set to shoot bursts of 3 shots. Can't stop the motion with such a slow shutter speed.

Linthicum, as usual your pictures are superb.

I think the gulls are juvenile black headed gulls.

I'm going to let this thread run a little longer then I'll start the next vol. of Daily Pics.

It was Resins turn but this one went faster than we thought it would and he isn't back from his offline time.

Cramlington, United Kingdom(Zone 8a)

Actually I think my gulls just have their winter plumage rather than being juveniles. Here's a duck I didn't know the name of.

Mostly Black-headed Gulls, adults and first-winters; also 3 Common Gulls (the ones with slightly darker grey backs, and yellow bills). The duck is a Gadwall.
