She's About To..........#15

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Good morning hottie frends, well my excitement last night was such that I never told Aunt B the name of my monster. This plant is the night blooming cereus. The buds open at night and only for a day, so sad, but it is absolutely interesting to see how they start to change from being all closed up and little by little they open to their full size, flower 12 inches long and 6 inches across. Ayway, I see that you are repotting yours, be careful, they love to be rootbound and may not bloom after you do that for another two years! I have several different epis and they are one of my favorites, of course brugies are first!

Hey Donita, you have a double flower blooming, you lucky girl.

At work today and will be peeking through, everyone have a nice day!

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Chiming in real quick, I’m reading but not much time to write.

I found the little buds on NOL on August 12 and they were about an inch long. Let me tell ya a month is a long time to wait. I think I check them almost every day.

AuntB, I’m trying to plan a day on LI so do your begging thing and I’ll pick it up and mail it out for ya. I just gotta see that place, might have to do some begging myself.

That's a girl, keep thinking a VERY long time... (really it will just seem like a long time, not a VERY long time).. we'll be here when you have to express your intense yearning, but don't try to "help" along them like Donna did.. ;) -more coleus-- this thing got huge-almost 4ft.. also huge was the bottom one in the first pic above..

Donna, LI, where are you going on LI? (I'm such an airhead... once in a while, lol)

(Cathy), MO

Are any of you interested in plumerias??

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

Brooklyn, AuntB, ring any bells?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Not for sure what plumeria is, One of the girls sent me some seeds, but I was told it would be like 2 years before blooms?

Good monring everyone. Hope you all have a wonderful day.

Another tropical. Someone told me they make the leis in Hawaii out of the plumeria bloom. Supposed to smell wonderful. I got a few in a coop. And don't want to over winter but maybe 2 of them

(Cathy), MO

Here's a link to info on them

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Hi Cat, I would like to try the plumies, what can I do for you in regards to trade?
Aunt B nice coleous, this year I did not grow any and I really miss them!
Bonnie, Donna cannot go to Brooklyn alone, she must see me first, or else, lol!

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

Oh how pretty. Are you selling them, or getting rid of them for postage? I wish you were closer to come to the east texas round up in October. I also wish I had something for trade. I have a huge double yellow dat in bloom right now, maybe when she produce seeds I can save you some?
LMK

(Cathy), MO

I would rather just do postage for whatever I am cutting. Got too much already! :-) UNLESS it's some kind of perrenial I don't have to keep in the house. Let me think...right now I need lily of the valley, and bruneras. And maybe wintergreen?

I would love some double yellow dat seeds! Do they come back every year from dropped seeds?

(Linda Kay) Amarill, TX(Zone 7a)

I would think so, but not for sure. This is my first year for dats, and brugs.
Still learning.
Linda Kay

(Cathy), MO

Me too! :-)

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Cat, how about tripple yellow dat, is that better for you than the double one?

(Cathy), MO

Even better!! LOL

(Cathy), MO

Does yours reseed itself Clemen? Or do you have to bring it inside for winter?

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Linda Kay, as a Hotties, I want you all to know, I have so much stuff, trades are not necessary.. I'll always send my hottie friends stuff for postage. You really need some plumies.. The one I got at K-mart was broom handle size, about a foot or less tall.. that was last Spring, I think... I potted it up before fall and It wintered over with the brugs, by Feb had lost all it's leaves..This spring it went into an even bigger pot, grew a new limb (inflo?) and bloomed, right here smack in the middle of the tropics.. lol It is 4ft tall, now. You'll be busy with brugs, it won't seem long at all for blooms. Some sweet lil DGer sent me some babies and they grow faster than you would think.. I'll try my hand at seed starting this winter when the snow is blowing and winds are howling.

Donna and Clemen, (precious hotties) I'm d-mailing the much admired NY rooftop gardener and begging for my Ludger fix. (Donna, thanks for the clue ;)Sure hope you girls get to go! X X for you both! If not, I'm sure he would mail for postage.. wonder if he's one of our lurkers??? Gordon? Clemen thanks for the info but IS it called Dragon Fruit? I'm aware I will retard blooms by repotting, but they are in plain dirt, I want to put them in a dirt/MG mix for better air circulation and so the roots don't have to work so hard.. I think I will just replace the dirt and not pot into something bigger. They aren't bloom producers anyway, maybe 2 or 3 IF I'm lucky..
more coleus, check out the unique lacy middle one..

Cat I have some struggling lily of the valley, white. I can dig some for you for the RU or dig next spring and bring them to that nursery for our mini-hottie ru. ;)

(Cathy), MO

"Struggling" Bonnie? Don't do anything to hurt it!!

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Cat, they are just seeds and have plenty. So you just trow them in the ground next Spring. I also have buttefly bushes??
Bonnie, no it is not dragon fruit, I only wish it was. My dragon fruit vine is so tall and about 4 years old a never a bloom yet, I hope that one day she will give me blooms and fruit. I'll post a pix when I get home so you can see my vine. Don't tell Gordon yet, until we confirm the visit!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Okay, Clemen, I can wait. Cat, I put them there 2 or 3 yrs ago... they were taking over at the X BF's so I cleaned some out, shared, planted a few by the birdhouse and I thought by now, I'd be mowing some over... maybe it's too dark of shade there... but I can move them when I dig some for you. I really think spring is better, just as they are peeking through the soil.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

OMG Clemen, you have Butterfly Bushes??? I have a purple and have been dying to get another color. What color are yours?

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

Karen I have several. light puple, dark purple, white, pink and yellow. Thing is though that babies sprout all over the place and I would not know what color you would get. But you are welcome to some. I pulled quite a few this week end.

(Karen) Frankston, TX(Zone 8a)

Oh I would love some! Dmail me and we can discuss postage :)

South Coast, RI(Zone 6b)

You hotties are going so fast I can't keep up, I can only get in here every couple of hours. Sounds like we have some plant trading going on. Have fun
BBL

(Cathy), MO

Hey maybe we can do some of our plant trading in here instead of posting them on the other forum! Should we all list what extras we have??

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Cat, most certainly, I think. We can post our extras here and let our hottie sis's have 1st pick. That'll bring some lurkers out of hiding! lol I'll need to do an inventory..

(Cathy), MO

Me too! I know I will also have 1 or 2 Lavender Chiffon Rose of Sharons

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

I agree with posting our extras, for postage.
Then we can send for postage or get for postage. Even Steven...hee hee
Like everyone I need to take inventory.
Maybe we should set a date to start posting our extras, then dmail that person for them.
I like dmail cause then I don't have to go back thru our lllllllllllooooooooonnnnnnnnggggggggg threads and find who wants what. Keeps me a little bit organized.

Becky, Dennis the Menace is a good name for my DH also, I am amazed how big his feet get when he is walking thru the flowers.....maybe more like clown feet. Poor thing doesn't know chick weed from grass. Anything in the lawn is green is grass....

Donna, can't wait for my long weekend. There will be 3 of us gardners going so we all have a lot in common shopping, learning, laughing, eating, (drinking don't tell anyone), and just plain foolery and not in any order....We had a ball last year, closed down the bar in the hotel, moved to the lobby and actually closed down the lobby....not many people can say that....or would want to own up to it....Then went on the most bizarre tour of some self-sufficient eco communities, you know it's going to be weird when the bus pulls up and there in the tall grass sits a old school bus with peace symbols on it. I swear I thought I was back in 1965.....some of the older folks wouldn't even get off of our bus. The name of the community was Dancing Rabbit in north Missouri...I nicknamed it Thumping Rabbit....

Hope every stayed warm last night.

Hey girlies...
Ty Bonnie for asking about Momma. I have read all the chatty cathies.. and I want your coleus...P L E A S E.. Purty Please!!..LOL
I have been all day at the Dr. with Momma. They did the ultrasound of Mommas kidneys.. and immediately the guy went to get the Dr! Her kidneys are not good.. the L is gone.. and the R is only half working, and they think she also has an obstruction, and they are retentive.. NOT GOOD!!.. you could have bowled me over with a feather.. I was so shocked.. My Momma is the best!!.. I just hate this sooo much for her, and bless her heart she hasn't a clue.. but maybe that is a blessing..

I wanted to share my pics this morning.. I think I am finally getting the hang of this..lol Quite proud actually.. (can you see me patting myself on the back??) hehehehe

I think I will start my inventory this evening. Why wait??? :-)

(Cathy), MO

Hoping all goes ok with your Mom Beckie!

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Joyce, I'm so happy you are getting away for some "foolery".. You deserve it. I'm not sure I could keep up! lol (but I'd sure try) Sounds like a real fun event. I say we wait until after about 40 or 50 posts on #17... IF we don't have to start it before this weekend.. (I'm sure we're on 15 now), maybe sometime while we're on #16? We can all post our lists, then let the d-mailin' begin! Hope all the activity doesn't cause Dave's server to blow up! Cathy, you are awesome and a mastermind! ((((Cat))))

Nassau County, NY(Zone 7a)

I'm back home hotties and now news from Beckie and her mom sick. Sorry Beckie, I'll have her in my prayers every night for ya. Lovely pic too lady.

NE, KS(Zone 5b)

Oh, Becky, no... I hope they can help her.. it probably is a blessing for her to not know.. but my dear what about YOU? You have someone to support you? Beside us, cause we can't come sit and talk with you and hug you... . I'm so sad to hear your mom's troubles..and so wish we were closer on the map. And you for sure are getting cuttings of every coleus I have, heck I'd even send you the whole plants if it didn't cost so much to mail.(((((((((((((((((((((((Becky))))))))))))))))))))))

(Cathy), MO

Good idea Bonnie. Then everyone else won't have the chance to see the lists and holler! Maybe we can have a specific day and time line to post so we will all be watching???

I'm heading home now. Have a good evening everyone

Kansas City (Joyce), MO(Zone 5a)

Yes, Cat that is a great idea.
So what if we post on Sunday? That will give us who are chained to a desk some time to get things together? Cause heaven knows I need time, I have things scattered from him to tim buck too......

(Becky) Colmesneil, TX(Zone 8b)

Ty cat.. me too!!
here's that "pink" confederate rose.. but she's still RED..LOL

Sunday is good for me.. IF it's not pouring rain all day Sat.. then I can improvise.... shall we see what the masses of Hotties that don't get to sneak post at work think? Maybe Sunday afternoon? Say 2 p.m. Central? That way Dave knows when to flip the "power surge" button lol...Gives everyone a chance to get home from church and eat a bite... Becky dear I just left a msg on your cell, I'm thinking about you. Yabba Dabba, I'll check in this evening.
