CF dropping eggs in Kentucky (egg sexing)

Clarkson, KY

Feeding and watering modules both fully operational. Life forms F2 and F10 cursed me profusely in some alien language, but eventually, reluctantly stretched out one leg. Then another. Then drew back in the first and stayed in palm, one leg out!

Forms F8 and M11are either running around willy nilly or sleeping on top of their younger sibs. Cuteness factor readings off the charts. Great missed photo op of DH and M11 beak to beak in alien interaction. Fluffing slow, but steady. Noticeable tendency to retain those feather-straw flakey-things in down much longer than life forms pictured in other missions. Please investigate and report. Proceeding in DCP(data collection protocol [aka more really bad pics])

Cuteness factor data to follow.

Request speculation as to identification of life forms. LF's in following pic consistently turned their little round butts to the camera before Cmdr could get the shot off. They are in motion here.

Cuteness factor ALERT! Code red! Code red! All personnel within 10 feet of alien life forms will immediately be seized by desire to pick up and cuddle life forms. Potential danger of addiction! Warning! Warning! Step AWAY from the aliens...

Request make and model of camera in order to investigate macro setting...

Cheesy Cam 5000. no wait.

Digital Concepts 7.1 mega pixel by Sakar Int'l.

Yup. Cheesy-cam 5000.

Fritch, TX(Zone 6b)

LMAO

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

7.1 MP is not bad at all. Trying to find online manual for info on macro setting.

Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, got the manual, figured out your macro setting.

Turn camera on.
Press "OK/Menu" button.
There is a navigation button that looks like it has a trash can on it and an arrow to the right. Press that until it selects the icon that is second from the right on the bottom of the screen. It looks like a very badly drawn flower. A menu will show up that says OFF/ON on it.
Then press the up/down icon button to select "on" on the menu.
Press the OK/Menu button again to confirm. Now you are in macro setting. The badly drawn flower should show up on the screen when you are taking a picture. To turn off the macro setting, go through the same procedure but select "OFF" instead of "ON".

Now your up close pix should be WAY better and clearer.
Yay.

Clarkson, KY

Thanks bunches, but it doesn't do that. Maybe I'll get there, though.

< Press that until it selects the icon that is second from the right on the bottom of the screen. > Hmm. Gives me vertical scene categories >auto, night portait, night scenery, portrait scenery, sport party, beach, high sensitivity. Several of these refocus like you mentioned.

(Zone 7b)

People think by my pictures i have a big expensive camera and i'm a skilled photog. No Way!

My Camera came from Wal__T and it's and HP Photo Smart 8.O MegaPixel 6x Optical Zoom Got it for mothers day cost my son $95 bucks

So grow don't worry do what i did pratice on something i took 1000 pics before i got the hang of it just take it outside and shoot away.

Clarkson, KY

If these chicks had waited until day 20 or so I'd've been OK...

M11 LF courtesy of Claire's research into my camera...;-) I think maybe too many ambient light sources..

OMG, what adorable cuties!!! love the pics!!!

Lodi, CA(Zone 9b)

Just back up! LOL See how perfectly the focus is of the background? Take the pic from farther away... your just too close.
(That is until you figure out the macro thingy)

Clarkson, KY

Lend me some arm ZZ and I'll step further back! couldn't get him to sit still anywhere else.lol

(Zone 7b)

Something out of whack with the focus need to adjust the Shooting mode mine has closeup and superclose up look at your camera menu.

Clarkson, KY

You spent 35 buck more too! Lemme look.............No can find. Look at the facial markings. M11 again. Much more vivid than anyone else.

Grownut. Think CF mentioned keeping temp down. Too high temp can cause early hatching. Please calibrate your thermometers before your next incubation.

Glad you like the chicks, brought you the cutest I could find!

CF

Clarkson, KY

Very, very grateful for Surprise Cuteload of ALFEMs.CF(oh, GREAT CF) mentioned lowering temps by 1/2 of 1degree. Now that CF has clarified the reasoning behind this recommendation, I will implement. Regrettably prevented from doing so this hatch due to inherited genetic inability to do something "just because I said so!" May add this was also seriously detrimental to Algebra grades way back in HS.

Showed stick-leg-out technique to DH. All LFs showed exact opposite response as that shown in pics!!

Gao, Mali

CF "said" that. NOW CF "says" calibrate or get a new thermometer.

Sometimes, Grownut, CF just KNOWS things, without reason or explanation. Understand inherited traits are difficult to overcome. Now that your early hatch provides reason, please abide.

Algebra?

All those rules yo just have to apply so that they will make sense in advanced physics years later?! I have never been able to remember anything which did not come logic attached.

Clarkson, KY

Still having trouble with camera - it will not focus on chicks in my hand. But here is F10's wing tip. All the Fs are like this, long further out, short closer to the body. Has yellow cheeks and a clear, small head-spot too. I can't get the feathers any clearer. Yet. Any ideas? On gender by feather, I mean?

Grow the pics are a little dark.

Last one -biggest feathers, brightest colors, longest tail! (female SST)

Thumbnail by grownut
Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

They look like Halloween chicks....giggle....

Clarkson, KY

I know. This camera can't possibly be this bad and it has to be me, but I can't fix the problem. Sorry.

The second and fourth hatchlings have bright yellow markings around their beaks which I associate with males, but 4 has a long tail and is feathering out fastest of all...

(Zone 7b)

I don't see any color is the flash not working.

Clarkson, KY

Laugh all you want. Here's the pic WITH the flash working!! Talk about technology challenged!

Thumbnail by grownut
Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

OK, apparently we all need to go in on the purchase of a better camera for Grownut for Christmas. This is making me laugh my head off. I can't see a dang thing! The last one I call "Blurry Chick in a Blizzard." The first ones I call "Blurry Chicks at Sunset."

Sorry Grownut, I can't help having a giggle over it. There HAS to be a macro setting...

(Zone 7b)

Yep Grow i think the deal on that camera wasn't such a good deal.

That is the weirdest picture i have ever seen was that camera new if it was i would take it back.

Gate (Rochester), WA(Zone 7b)

Slowly catching up on some of these threads, though still have a ton of outside work to be done....

K, I am with the rest of you, those pix's sure don't show much at all.....lol
Maybe something is wrong with the camera? Exchange maybe? Or take back & try for a different model / brand. Don't believe a user problem, if flash comes out like total snow & no flash is eerie halloween pix. Sorry Grow, hope I don't offend. Really don't think it is you though.

Try higher ambient light. Maybe limited photographic ability is linked with algebra resistance? I had the same marker.

Clarkson, KY

you'll never guess what I found......................................a macro setting.....I'll just let you guess how stupid I was, I'm not telling.

1st 'female'

3rd -'female' again -this one still has no tailfeathers -or headspot -or cheek spot.

Thumbnail by grownut
Oxford, NS(Zone 5b)

Hooray Grownut! You did it! Congratulations! See, now you can teach digital photography lessons to others. :-)

Very cute chicks, now that we can see them. The first one has a fairly large and diffuse looking head spot. It might be a roo. Might want to get them together for a group shot of heads taken from the top. Helps to see the spots from the top down.

By the way, nice leg identifier band! ;-)

Clarkson, KY

4th and final 'female' -would you believe me if I said I took intentionally spooky pictures?? more like the powers of preconception -the macro button was under my hand by the USB cable hook-up the whole time. rrrggghh.
