Trois

Rancho Cucamonga, CA

I just wanted to post here in case any of you knew Trois from any of the other forums he posted on, I know "photos" was one, that's where I met him.
Trois passed away Sept. 1. I just found out today and wanted to pass the info on to anyone who might have missed it.
Dave's lost a good hearted, one heckuva photographer.
Bless his heart.

I'm sorry to hear that even though I did not know him. We are 'lessened' as a whole by each one we lose....

I'm sorry to hear that--I didn't know him very well but he was definitely a great asset to DG.

Yes he was. If you ever get the time, stop in at the photo forum and look at some of his wonderful photos. He'll certainly be missed.
Very well put Sherry.

This is so sad. I didn't know him well, either, but we chatted a few times and I read his posts and enjoyed his photos. I'm glad it was not a long illness.

Trois's daughter SingingWolf has joined DG and has been able to read the wonderful things written about her dad here

How special for his family to have all these nice thoughts available to them. :-)

Hi:
I'm Trois's daughter SingingWolf. I am hoping to become more involved with DG. I has been cathartic and hilarious to read Dads posts. I am looking for information on Round Ups in our area. Do you have any info on that? It's okay to dmail me since I may not be able to find this thread again. I'm hoping my eldest son (ES) will be able to help me post a great picture that Dad sent me a couple of months ago. I love it so much I made it (ok ES helped) the backdrop on my laptop.
Thanks a bunch,
SingingWolf

Missing you Trois! Loved your love of the birds and landscape. Loved the opportunity to view your terrific photographs!

4/23/05 - This was my first glimpse of Trois, at the very first TX RU, the first time any of us at that RU met any DG'ers in person. I had already become an avid fan of his photos, so it was no surprise to see him hunkered down, taking such interest in a tiny (tiny) flower. It was such a delight seeing him and his lovely wife Barbara at our RU's in TX and a "nursery date" in Austin. He lived on the coast, so every time a hurricane threatened we were concerned about him and Barbara. I was wondering about him when Gustav threatened recently, and was stunned to hear of his death.

He was a really warm, gentle man, full of humor and the best stories. Always willing to share. He is sorely missed.

Trois looks like a real sweetheart. Thanks maggie for the photos.

Yup! That's my Dad. I was just thinking about the word hunkered today too. Wondering if I was the only one who used it still. Having to show someone what it meant, and there is my Dad in a picture perfect hunker! Thanks for making me grin maggiemoo! Nice pictures too! Say does anyone know where the word hunker came from? Just curious.
My POB has new buds getting ready to bloom, I saw today.
I am worried about Barbara, and my youngest brother and his family, it appears they will be near the center of H.caine Ike's path. Couldn't get through by phone or email. Keep them in your prayers, folks!
Thanks for the hyperlink KaperC it helps a lot.

I was going to ask you about Barbara and your brother. I know they all "hunkered down" for Rita, was hoping they actually evacuated this time. I think I remember your dad saying they had a safe room or something? I would mainly be worried about flooding from the storm surge, as close to the coast as they are. I am definitely praying for them.

Hunkered down is the phrase of the week here, especially tonight. We are all hunkering down waiting for Ike to get gone already! Lots of power outages south and to the East of me, and my lights have been flickering a bit, so I may not be here much longer.

I love words!

RE: Barbara and brother will probably ride out the storm at home. My brother is an engineer and took special care when building his place to prepare for periodic flooding. They were directly in the storms path. I was watching the Weather Channel last night and saw the live reports. The beach where I went last week with family in Galveston was flooded. Still waiting to hear back from them and a step sister in Baton Rouge. I talked to her yesterday, and she said that it still looked like a war zone from the previous H.Caine Gustav, around her. The reports say that they expect a lot of power outages. Dad taught to take care of ourselves, and after that fiasco evacuation, they vowed to stay at home, Hunker down and meet it squarely. I think that they sit on the porch and watch them. With some of those winds that could be dangerous. I wonder how their garden is. I'm sure that they are okay. Just can't contact anyone.

Oh boy someone else who likes to play with words?!

A proper hunker is a 3 points of your body in contact with the ground. See the picture above if in doubt, Dad is doing the four points of contact on ground "hunker". I have come to know it well, lately. Gives you better balance, and stability. Dad & Grand Dads used the term a lot, since I've always been the "farmer" in the family I've cultivated its usage. Quite often given demonstrations of a 3 pt. hunker. Getting older so now it is the 4 pt. hunker. Out here it means settling in for a long conversation with a neighbor or friend while outside.
Be Safe!

Got to run, company here!

Hi Friends:

I just spoke to my sister in Austin, Barbara and my youngest brother's kids are with my sister. My YB#2 stayed at home to keep an eye on things there, but his wife had to work. All is well. Just wanted you to know.

Happy for you that they're safe and well....that end of the country does not appear to be safe at all anymore. I guess I shouldn't say that considering they talk about our 'fire season' (which now appears to be all year round).

Every place has its hazards. All the thoughts and prayers sent their way must have been answered. According to the family telephone tree, my Youngest Brother and Dad & Barbara's places came through ok. A few missing roof tiles. Power is out still, but he has a generator for the essentials, like the fridge and his saltwater fish tanks.

I'd rather deal with an earthquake than a H.caine or tornado. We had one very close to us this spring. My Mom (Dad's first wife), said that the sky looked like OKlahoma skies that day. My DH said that the trailing edge ended here at our farm. We had a lot of hail. Will send a pic if I can find it and attach it (okay 2, if I did this right). The hail ranged in size, from BB shot, to marble size. Note that my DH's lawn is green, while my mulch covered butterfly garden is covered in hail (should be 2nd pic, if I did this right).

The important thing is that everyone is safe. Critters too!
