Now that the Plants Database contest is over, and the mad rush to insert new data is finished, we're all wondering what's the next big TODO for DG.
For me, it's my journal. As the frost-free season is quickly diminishing, I'm starting to spend some time thinking about what to do with my journal.
I will, of course, continue to have journal entries continue through 2002, but most of my journal is finished. What do I do with all these "Finished" status items? I want to preserve each entry so I can look back on it next year for reference (which is the entire point of my keeping a journal).
Has anyone else thought about this yet? Does anybody have any good ideas of a new feature for the journal to take care of this problem? Some sort of a "filing system" for the journal must be created, but how should it function?
Let me hear your thoughts. I'm somewhat stuck here.

Journaling in 2002
Dave, couldn't you create a Folder System, like the ones in Email functions?
I know it will take a huge amount of space as in the photos and database, but you could maybe allow a folder for a maximum period; say 3 folders for 3 consecutive years. When reviewing old folders, and deciding what to keep each member would have the option of deleting a particular folder to create the next one. In this manner, they could keep the year and propagations that worked the best for them even if they weren't in chronological order.
No, I won't be asking anybody to remove any of their content. That's out of the question.

Ouch! Thanks MzM for clarifying my point.

Sorry for sounding harsh. When I get into "programming mode" I tend to be very terse and I use the bare minimum of words in my posts.
I just wanted to re-assure everybody that their journals are completely safe and will never have data removed in order to make space for other stuff.
Well, we're obviously going to have to make a filing system here, and a series of folders is what I had in mind. What I am hoping to see if a discussion of how the implementation might look like.
I've spent the morning here (between time spent working on my greenhouse) working on programming in this feature. It's taking a lot of time and careful planning, however, because it is a fairly advanced database modification. I want it to be seamless, and it must not affect everybody's current journals.
I'm now about 90% done with the work, and it's working pretty good on my system here at home. When I'm satisfied that it's working bug-free, I'll be uploading the changes and folks will be able to start filing away entire journals, start new journals, move items between journals, and such.

Sounds delightful!
