Tilly, your family, both people and pets, are great garden helpers! I know I sure get overwhelmed until my guys get involved in a project and give me a hand. Well maybe not my doggie fella. His idea of 'helping' is to dig where I dig (maybe where something has been planted) and then lie down and take a nap in the freshly prepared garden bed. Gotta love him anyway though. He always looks so pleased and happy.
Thanks for asking about me....have been wildly busy with the beginning of school. My irises are still in their box, since I've been working non-stop. I hope they are going to be o.k. until I can get to them. I sprinkled water on the roots, but that might not have been enough. It's dark out by the time I get home and eat dinner (you know what that's like), so kind of hard to get anything done on the yard.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

How well I know that, Its so hard when you work those hours, this is the last time of the year for me to get all the projects done before first frost, still have a order coming and a bag full from Carla to plant. We got the temp. beds made today, just dig and plant in the new soil, and pray they make it. All I can think of is just heel them in, I think they will do fine, thats what I'm going to do with the rest, running out or time.

I went to a friends Today very close (I call Her Mom) She had some plants to give me, said they where not to big, one a white butterfly bush, the other a bluish, took my garden fork to do the job, LOL found out they where bigger than me. That was a chore, hope I did not hurt them to much, It was tough have my dough's will see

Love those bird houses Tilly! They look great there! What a huge surprise. Only heard you mention as an idea while I was there & Ta DA! What a thoughtful guy DH is! Did the 'furry' ones help too? lol

Thank you soooo much for teaching me how to dig up, divide & re-plant daylilies. That is information I will never forget & certainly needed. And for teaching me about dahlias. To think, I had no idea what those gorgeous flowers were a week or so ago. Still a major learning curve here, but a great start from a fantastic teacher! And the huge generosity of plants I got to take home, WOW! DG'ers are the Greatest!!!

Gotta tell everyone, this dahlia / iris bed looks much better in person than the pixs can possibly show. And you have just got to see the rest of this Lady's yard. Lovely ideas, and a BEAUTIFUL yard! Fantastic job Tilly!!! On this bed & your whole yard... ^_^

THANK YOU TILLY, for everything !!!!

trying to calculate the cost of gas in my 7 passenger suv....CA to WA.... hmmm cheaper now than it was in July....maybe, maybe....oh, but wait! I just spent all that money on the chicken coop...and those back to school clothes...and well! maybe next year!

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Funny, maybe think April, May then you might drowned or snow still on the ground. June a possible. but then going after last year, who's to say what the weather will be here, a guessing game. This year has not been nice, LOL

Perfect protectors!
I do see you. Just love those birdie gazing balls. Just the thing with the bird houses.....
Hope you were able to get everything you wanted to done Tilly. Sorry, couldn't make it out again this weekend. Just knew with the promised sun & your work left being in the sun, shouldn't push myself. Wouldn't do to get overheated, would be no use to anyone. Maybe another day off? if you ever get one day, before rains & frost.... would love to see it all again.
By the way, mom is a bit jealous of your garden too..... now wants more decor & another flower or two.....lol
Thanks again for all your knowledge! and all the beautiful babies!!!!

tillysrat, thanks so much for the wonderful story! Great advice about the iris rings - I am constantly clearing mulch away = what did you make the rings out of?

anne

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Hey Anne, I have to bow, Thank you....Nice to hear from you.

The are made of 4" rolled flat edging that you buy for lawns or boarders. DH took a 5 gal. bucket used the top, cut the rings to the size and stapled them together to make the rings. (my idea, brain storm in the middle of the night). They can be moved up or down to adjust the height.

Sweet Tills I just found this. I actually like the wood pile but you have made it nice with your beautiful bed. Love it!

Mary, your hubby is a total sweetheart!

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

hey, I kinda like that stump...cant you use it as a built in chair? teehee!

what a wonderful DH you have!! ...reminds me of my DH! lol! always tinkering doing something just to put a smile on my face :)

now, when he's done with THAT stump can you send him over to my moms to have him remove that awful stump in the middle of her yard?! teehee!

Burwash Weald, United Kingdom(Zone 9b)

Wait WAit!!! the stump would be a wonderful - goodness there is a french name for it - a sort of staging area for potted plants!!! Stop DH, before you cut more!

Yep, know what you mean, Laurie! But I think Mary's dh just likes to wield his chainsaw. That stump could be useful where it is. But if it's too late, at least she has opened up the space.

(AnjL) Fremont, CA(Zone 9b)

well then...tell him to keep the stump in tact....and move the new chair/plant holder over to another location :)

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Sorry all, but I did want to keep it. But removing it I can get a truck in to the back yard to bring in soil and such, there is no other way. and hate the thougth of carting it all the way around the house, getting to old for that Ha Ha.
Yes Pix he does love the saw, LOL Can't wait till he takes the big one down by the GH.

Poulsbo, WA(Zone 8a)

Was going through so old pixs, and reloading some and found this.
This was before LOL
Tyler has the hang dog look.

I think Tyler looks much happier with the new bed! :)

I can relate to wanting to be able to drive around to dump dirt. Good enough reason to take it out in my book.

Moscow, ID(Zone 5a)

Truck vs wheelbarrow & your back: that's an easy choice!
