At first I thought it might be a slug. On closer inspection it's looks more like 'the hungry caterpillar'! On turning it over it also displays caterpillar feet but, whatever it is, I have a few in the garden and am inquisitive to know what they may be or turn out to be; i've never seen them in the garden before. Anyway, thanks in advance, I know you wont let me down!! (I placed it next to an ordinary clothes peg to give it some size perspective). Thanks
CLOSED: ID please?!! Any ideas on this huge caterpillar/slug?
it reminds me of a luna moth cat but not exactly. also, i've never seen one that shiny!
Hi, thanks for reply. It may look shiny because the grass was wet, at first I thought it was a slug!
Well, after spending far too much time on the internet, i've solved my own mystery! It's an Elephant Hawk-moth (Deilephila elpenor). I've got a lot of honeysuckle in my garden and apparantely they like it! Thanks anyway
