Fuchsia forum???

Lilburn, GA

Hi,

I was wondering if there is anyone interested in starting a Fuchsia Forum. They are lovely flowers and I don't know why they are not popular.

Thank you.:o)

They are very popular in some areas--most of them don't do too well with hot summers so that's probably why you don't see too many in your area.

I agree spider. A Fuchsia forum would be a great idea. Even though they like cool conditions they will grow happily inside air conditioned homes and conservatories. I have grown many varieties over the years and picked up this little beauty last year called Sunray, it's unusual because it prefers full sun - not that we get much of that here lol. Fuchsia are also a source of easy cutting material and great for those who haven't tried cuttings before. Such variety too.

Hi ecrane and roseimp,

thank you for your messages.

I think fuchsias can grow well here. There is a florist hop nearby that has them in baskets, standards but they charge soooo much for one of those.

Also they only have a few varieties.

I got some lovely ones from CPedrick at the marketplace. They are unusual types I will be getting more.

Hi Roseimp.

I moved here from England about 3 1/2 years ago. I had many fuchsias there. There are so many nurseries around.

I am happy to meet someone from those parts. I miss England a lot!

Oh bless you spider. I sometimes miss the UK because my family are there. I don't regret the move to Ireland though. If you can grow fuchsia where you are I would suggest you swap cutting with anyone near you. Its an even cheaper way of getting new plants. I love taking cuttings from all types of fuchsia as they are so easy - they root in water which is really great!! I've got one which I took as a cutting in April this year from a waste area - it's in my garden, 2 feet tall and flowering like mad. They are a great plant!
I trained a couple of standards myself several years ago and they are not difficult either - just need a couple of years to get them to a decent size. Just keep pulling off the bottom leaves and side braches till they get to between 2 and 3 feet and then let the topmost branches thicken up. They charge far too much for standards.
