What's Happening in YOUR neighborhood today pt 8

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hope you're feeling better Betty .. or at least more rested ..

A 'half and half' kind of day here. Cloudy then sunny a spitter spatter of rain then it goes .. BUT .. the NORTH wind reared it's head today and made it seem like NOVEMBER !!!

DOG!!! I sometimes go to the Wildlife forum .. I went today and there was an website to check out .. WELL !!! Guess who has been 'almost' stuck in front of the monitor for a goodly portion of the day !! ME!!!!
The site is a webcam at a watering hole in Africa !! Today I saw a Leopard, Antelope, LOTS of Elephants, birds .. right now it's kinda BLAH as it's the middle of the night ... but .. I know the last thing I'll check will be that webcam site ..
If anyone would like to scope it out .. here's the address http://www.wildearth.tv/home

Checking Facebook then BACK TO AFRICA .. and maybe 'Dancing with the Stars' :-)

Oh I have watched that website in the past but never seems to be at the right time!
Most of the animals seem to come at dusk and dawn and I guess wth the time difference I just dont hit it right.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

I agree Carol .. you have to kinda 'hit it' at the right time .. seems to only be birds twittering there this morning.

Got a TON of stuff to accomplish before I head over to my buds to house sit.

Oh boy, that could be an addictive website. Some sort of kudu-like animal at a watering hole just now. Very cool!

Victoria Harbour, ON

A must go 'see' link..thanks
Sun is shinning her in the city but a few clouds are rolling in...
Hope you are all well today...now tell me if you would, what will occupy your time once the gardening season is over???

For the next 3 months mine will be Christmas workshops and decorative painting...

Victoria Harbour, ON

OK, know I'll be sitting here all day thinking I'm in Africa...

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Oh goodness, they're on safari right now, it's 6:45 AM their time, and they're showing a leopard in a tree with a freshly killed antelope or something...amazing!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LOL .. Betty .. by the looks of things this African webcam is going to take up a lot of my time LoL.

I have less than a month left in the Hospice training course .. then I'll be paired with an 'End of Life' client .. so .. that's going to take up time .. plus I retire soon and am already thinking I am spread thin. I am HOPING to pick up my Cross Stitch again .. I used to do it quite a bit .. course my eyesight was better then too !!! I also will be doing some Ethics classes with 2nd year University RNs .. that's as a favour to a friend who is a teacher .. it's pretty interesting stuff actually, I had thought it'd be dry ..
Other than those things I don't forsee myself far from the woodstove unless it's to take a ski around the property or a Field walk.
OH !!! I'll also be awaiting on word as to whether Lilly's Mom was successfully impregnated in December as we have our name down for a female from her litter :-)

Off to scout moose today in Boreal .. 'leaf peepin' for me :-)

Enjoy your day (I'm heading back to Africa for a bit) :-)

Marilynne - will you still volunteer in hospice work after you retire? How soon is the retirement? Sounds challenging working in Hospice care and my hat's off to those who can do it well.

I haven't been here for a bit though I've checked in to read. Ottawa Symphony concert next Monday is keeping me busy working on the music. One difficult piece I've played before, fortunately, but it doesn't make it much easier the next time around. And three others that I've never played before. None of them are a walk in the park.

Have a presentation at my DGTwins' school this afternoon and I'll stay over there until it is time to go to bells since the church is about half way between their house and mine. Need to plan what the bells will do this evening. With a lot of new people, we are still doing a lot of basic stuff though we DO play an easy piece in church on Sunday.

I'd love to get into the garden, but with a special event Friday afternoon, rehearsal Saturday afternoon, bells playing Sunday morning, rehearsals from 1-4 and 6-9 and the concert on Monday, I don't think I'll get there until next week some time.

Hope you are all keeping well.

Hiya :-) Left Africa for a bit :-) Not much happening in the middle of their night .. however .. on the new site (camera) I am watching .. it sounds as though a Lion has gotten his/her supper .. lordie the growling and snarling is incredible .. but nothing to be seen .
That site is Afrikcam.com

Ann .. I am planning on retiring in December .. before Xmas .. and .. yes .. I am still going to volunteer with "End of Life' clients on Hospice and those who choose to end their journey at home.
My goodness .. you most certainly are keeping busy with your music .. I envy you .. the ability to play an instrument and read and interpret music is a fabulous gift ..

The Boreal Forest was beautiful today .. all be it a bit cool !!! In fact .. we were walking Lilly and a sun shower passed over and the rain almost felt like snow :-( we were at a higher elevation .. it passed by quickly however :-)

Gonna check out Africa ONE more time ..

Take care all

Fall safety tip: don't rake your leaves into a pile and run and jump in them like when you were a kid. The ground is alot harder now.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

LMAO !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! AM NOT even goin there !!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Well well well .. now there's a DEEP subject :-)
For the third consecutive morning we have FROST in a BIG way ... the Cannas are toast with the tall Sunflowers right behind'em .. but .. the Rudbeckia and the Mums just keep on keeping on .. outrageous I'd say :-)

My BDay was yesterday and the celebration continues this weekend .. which means .. I do NOT have to cook !!!! One of the benefits of having your BDay fall directly before or ON a weekend ..
I rec'd a 'body pillow' as one of my gifts. Have always wanted one, and this one is being sold with 15% of the proceeds going to breast cancer research .. it's wonderful .. Lilly thinks so as well !! I wakened last night and she had her head on the pillow as it extends almost to the bottom of the bed .. kinda makes me fret about how things are going to change in the Spring when the puppy (Piper) arrives .. DH is OK with ONE canine on the bed .. but .. 2 Westies may be a problem .. as it is .. Lilly will of a sudden wake up and decided to 'give kisses' she doesn't realize she is waking us up out of a dead sleep .. she just wants some hugs !!

Hope you all are well and enjoying the beautiful fall weather and colours ..

Take care

A rather gloomy day here - things starting to cool off a bit although no kiling frost in the forecast for the next few days.

The dogs and I went to church this morning - Blessing Of The Animals at the Cathedral down town. A nice service-12th year now.

Fancyvan, they had the same blessing of animals this past weekend in Toronto, understand that for 2 entire days they had a continuous line-up...love the photo...

Came in 1 hr. early today and still here, Suzanne finishing an application sooo when you hitch a ride that's what you get...

Put drops in my left ear, thought the pain would subside for the day but not...so, can't wait till I get home...

Went to Meaford over the weekend, colors were beautiful but not as it usually is, no vibrant reds/oranges and yellows...but still nice...came home with a carload of purchases...as always...I love garden art that is rusty..purchased my 7th piece from this metal worker..big dragonfly..28" wide by 27" long...looks pretty in the garden..

Then Sunday it was an iris folding card workshop, totally enjoyed it..so went through all my ribbon, scrapbooking sheets and ended up making 3 more today here in the office to go with the 3 I did yesterday...so guess everyone on my card list will be getting home made Christmas cards..lol..

Imagine, this morning there was ice on my windshield..yuk..you do know what's coming do you not...

Forgot to 'wave' and say hi everyone...do hope you've enjoyed your day..happy belated birthday 'M' how in the world did I miss it....

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

Hiya :-)

Betty .. LOVE the cards .. very festive .. seems I send less and less now as most ( if not all) our friends and relatives are online .. ergo .. ECARDS :-)

Re my BDAy .. well .. not to worry bout missing it .. I seem to have found out, after the fact, that there are actual BDay forums on the site .. still trying to get a handle on that ..

Our 'frost mornings' are numbering 4 now .. lots of flowers have bit the dust and clean up is progressing slowly. DH and I took up the driveway tarps today .. BIG job .. and every year we have the same heated discussion with regards to either asphlating or interlocking the area .. it's a LARGE area .. I keep telling him we are NOT getting any younger !!!

Tomorrow we are having the woodstove cleaned .. so .. happily we will be able to have a fire probably Tuesday evening .. course .. I won;t be here as I seem to be bound to meetings almost every evening this week !! Lilly and Smokey sleep in their wee beds in front of it , and I am sure they wonder where the heat went !!

Election mania is at the forefront here (and everywhere else I am sure) went and did our voting today to get it out of the way .. we are certainlt facing troubled times in our world ..

I meet with my first Hospice client (and family) tomorrow .. am hoping I can make a difference and help shoulder some of this families despair as well as the client.

Supper is ready .. so I am on the move ..

Take care

~M~

PS .. I am still going to AFRICA every chance I get LoL

Had a few more really nice days so getting more work done in the garden. A cold front was predicted to move in and it did so about an hour ago! Sky black, really terific winds - leaves blowing all over, branches coming of my Laural Leaf Willow and rain. This all started just as I decided to take my new foster for a walk! It was sunny in the east and I didnt look west! So we ran around the block!
Hard frost predicted later in the week. It will be the first this year around here.
Have to take Shiloh ( foster)to the vet this afternoon and early tomorrow again to get snipped.
Then try to keep him quiet for a few days - as long as he is in the house he is pretty good. Outside he is on the move constantly and periodicaly we have a 3 dog chase.

Oh I just looked at a weather report - we have a wind warning - 70K gusting to 90+K!

Yikes...is it too late to tell you to "Batten Down the Hatches?"

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

YEOWZA Carol (et al) you Calgarians don't fool around when a wind comes through !! Sure hope no severe damage was done ..

We have rain just starting here .. has been trying hard all day .. looks like it'll put a damper on any yard work I had planned for tomorrow ..

Hope Shiloh makes out OK .. give him a huge hug from me .. and I hope you do OK as well Carol in trying to keep him quiet !!

~M~

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Yup!

Who knows there is a wind warning issued in the middle of the day when you are not on a weather site?

Laurel Leaf Willow is a self pruning tree, especially when it is windy.Comes in handy!

Calgary, AB(Zone 3a)

Just in case you didnt see him on the Pet Forum here's Shiloh. He is one year old on Thursday this week.

What a goodlooking new guest carolvan. Luvly dahlias metcalfe

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

Talk about self-pruning ....... my neighbour's tree is that - it's a Cottonwood Poplar.
She & I both want the tree cut down, but it's the City's property (trailer court), and it will wait for them to do something about it. The tree is infested with bugs in the leaves, and the tree itself is rotten.

Imagine coming home to this:

Ouch! Tough way to get rid of an unwanted and diseased tree. Hopefully the city will move in an expeditious manner. Good Luck.

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

You'd think when it becomes an actual 'safety issue' something would be done about hiking the tree outta there .. what a mess !!!!

well when there is a will there is a way bleach is the word just feed it to the tree and it will be completely dead very quickly just poor it at the base of the tree and water with for a few minutes to help it penetrate and it will be done quick.

TORRINGTON, AB(Zone 3b)

hahahaha don't think we haven't thought of that!
We actually thought of drilling a tiny hole in the tree, and pouring bleach in it.
Only problem is, when it sheds more branches, or keels over totally - it would be a safety issue if it fell on one of our homes...............

Thunder Bay Ontario, ON(Zone 3a)

WHOA !!! Just came in from a QUICK walk with Lilly .. quite the wind goin on here ..

I can almost see Protest signs around you guys if you do the BLEACH deal .. DOG .. folks are so picky about that kind of stuff .. Elizabeth May could be t your front door ~~~~!!!

Totally buzzy butt day tomorrow .. I best go and get my stuff together ..
