I was checking out some of the recently added tags this afternoon, and noticed that there's quite a few that either take you back to the home page, or to the "Guides & Information" page, or other similar pages that don't seem to have anything to do with the tag listed. One, for example, that's up right now is "bee or hummingbird?" that takes you right to the Guides and Information page. Is this supposed to be happening? It's not any of the tags that I personally have added, and not all of the tags are like this, just some.
Tags that go nowhere?
I've noticed it, very annoying. I've given up on clicking tags. Maybe they're tags people have marked as private?
I've had the same experience.
I just did a test on the "private tag" idea, and it didn't show up in the list at all. So I'm guessing it's not that.
Maybe simple operator error?
I don't know if it applies to all the ones that lead nowhere, but I know several of mine do because the thread they linked has been deleted by management. I wonder if this would also happen if the thread was moved to a different forum?
If the thread was moved, the tag will continue to function just fine.
The bigger issue is that a lot of members have (probably unknowingly) tagged pages that really don't need to be tagged. For example:
Things in their own tools/preferences that are not really meant to be tagged or viewed by others. For examples, a page where you are editing your trade list doesn't need to be tagged.
Many many people have tagged the DG homepage.
Many have tagged search results pages.
Ditto the "you are now logged in" page.
Also when people reply to a thread, they tag the resultant page. That doesn't work as it's tagging a filled out form.
So, I cleaned up the tags (removing over 400 of them) and I also instituted a change on the code to prevent certain pages from being tagged. I'm hopeful that this will solve or at least improve the problem.
Thanks, Dave! I'm lovin' the tag cloud; it's so interesting to see what others are finding in areas of DG I don't often frequent.
Thank you Dave!!!
