CLOSED: A tough one...

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

I'm hesitating between Adelphocoris quadripunctatus or Calocoris norvegicus (Fam Miridae) of these two very similar bugs. I found both in the same habitat of mixed herbage specially on nettles..
In the first one can see 2 clearly defined dots on the neck shield and a suggestion of two more which would make it Adelphocoris quadripunctatus.

The second has only two faint dots and make it look more like Calocoris norvegicus (specially fond of nettles)

This is the first;

I would agree with your first one, this site has some very good pics.

http://www.koleopterologie.de/heteroptera/3cimi2/3-arten.html

Your second one doesn't appear to be on that site! I looked at the pic on the link you gave, it could be different as there as so many which are similar and your pic doesn't show the patterns and colours to the best. Maybe you could look at more on the koleopterologie.de link

That German site has indeed very good pics! Thanks!

Interesting how they show about 4 or 5 different varieties of the same insect. It must be variable..
and so I think the first one is indeed Adelphocoris quadripunctatus .

Perhaps you've overlooked the second link I've given in my first post about the second bug that shows the pic. on a UK site of Calocoris norvegicus

http://images.google.be/imgres?imgurl=http://gwydir.demon.co.uk/insects/calo_norv.jpg&imgrefurl=http://www.gwydir.demon.co.uk/insects/miroidea.htm&h=275&w=560&sz=17&hl=nl&start=198&usg=__f0dWYcnW97fNMYfmJsHyPtNvi4g=&tbnid=vVW18HK3Ax54DM:&tbnh=65&tbnw=133&prev=/images?q=miridae&start=180&gbv=2&ndsp=20&hl=nl&sa=N

The pic. of Calocoris norvegicus in the German site doesn't want to open on my PC..but the thumbnail is a very close match except for the two faint dots on mine. But then Wikepedia gives a drawing of it also with two dots on the neck shield... So I think I'll conclude the second is indeed Calocoris norvegicus..

Oh but now I found even another one that also has two dots;

Thanks for the help along the way!

Now I know why I couldn't find the second one on the German site, it's called Closterotomus norvegicus on there! Look at the last pic of 5 there, it looks exactly like yours. I imagine they alter with age and seasons.

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Yes, they do! But then I wonder if Calocoris norvegicus and Closterotomus norvegicus are just the same specie with another name..That would be confusing..

Gent, Belgium(Zone 8a)

Ah, I just found out that Closterotomus norvegicus would be the new name for Calocoris norvegicus.
So they are the same.
I found the information on a local Nature Forum, unfortunately it's in Flemish so no use for me giving a link...
