it helps... they get lots of goodies though... corn and peanuts till someone broke the glass on the peanut feeder... I get a lot less digging this way... now I have to build something like pirl to keep the chipmunks out of my tomatoes next year.. I don't mind sharing some... but ALL the full size plants I have... only got one ripe one

:(

Onewish
Your pictures are fantastic and the bird is a Turky Vulture I think we have tons of them here, they are carrion eaters and like crows keep dead stuff cleaned up.
Donnibrook love your gardens as always.
Have a great weekend everyone.

Awesome hummer shots Allison! Actually they all are!

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

thank you for confirming that Ge.... It was hard for me to call it... there are hawks up here too... I had the daylights scared out of me by a turkey vulture earlier in the summer... I was walking across the lawn to pull a weed and it flew so close to my head I felt the breeze.... he was going to get a roadkill squirrel .... man that sucker sure woke me up.... I ducked and froze still.... didn't know if I was under attack

LOL

Pittsford, NY(Zone 6a)

Be carefull out there.
They go for dead deer too ,maybe holding still and acting dead is not the thing to do LOL

Denville, NJ(Zone 6b)

well hey when you think you are getting attacked by something flying behind you.... natural instinct stopped me dead in my tracks.... it was amazing how loud it's wings were... they are freaky looking... growing up in a city I sometimes have a hard time adjusting to all this wildlife here

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

omg, I'm way too far behind again to comment on everyone's beauties, except for one. Dyane, Veronica is an absolute darling. Congratulations!

Victor, that is Erica vagans and it starts blooming usually in July, but I trimmed them all late this year, so it has only been about 2 weeks. Now you've got me on 'little critter' watch. this grasshopper was perched on the handle of my fence gate. when I finally reached up to shoo him off he flew right in my face. should have squashed him LOL

nice shot though... even though he attacked you

Wheatfield, NY(Zone 6a)

whew! here I am complaining about a grasshopper. I'm a city kid too. I'm a little jumpy sometimes with the sounds around me. the fish in the lake make some big splashes when I'm out in the garden early in the morning and everything else is quiet. it's startling.

my 'Summer Showers' geranium from seed. I started them so late I thought they wouldn't flower until November, but they've done pretty well.

Verbena bonariensis...this is my first year growing it, but I won't be without it again. I've probably said that before in an earlier thread, but I just love it.

About 2 weeks ago, we were driving, and 2 vultures were eating a dead deer on the side of the road. They are huge. As we got closer, they both took off, one directly in front of us. We hit and killed it, but it dented the hood of the car. They are huge.
