I do love the polka dots. Woud be hard to pick a favorite from those 4,
all beauties.

this is my angelwing begonia, i picked it up at a yard sale last year for 50 cents almost dead, very small, and didn't think it was going to live. after alot of tender loving care, repotting, good old fashioned water, and some fertilizer, it has grown into a beauty.

Lace,

You did a great job of rescuing that begonia. It sure looks like B. 'Lucerna' - an oldie goldie. This was my first cane begonia and I still have it after 34 years.

I have neglected mine but it continues to grow. I laid some of the old stems horizontally in an aluminum pan (my favorite propagating tray) a year or two ago and several new stems came up at the nodes. Here is a picture of it before I cut the tops to start a new pot. Rain made everything shine in this picture.

this is a new baby off of that begonia (this year's plant), for some reason i have been very lucky with this plant. and thank you so much, i love the way you have yours in with all those others, is that big plant what they call a mask or something like that? i'm just learning all the names of these plants, i love plants , have alot of them, but do NOT really know their names. i need alot of help in that area.

this is that big begonia a week after i got it at the yard sale, it's just over 1 year old now, and it just keeps getting bigger. does anyone have any idea how big these things will get if they are not cut back. mine is about 4 and half feet tall now

this is the mother plant today...she is 4 and half feet tall and almost 5 feet around, she's the first one on the corner in the big gray pot.

Lace, Great bargain for .50 cents. You've grown it beautifully. .

Butch, I think you could just throw some cuttings outside on the ground,
and find them all rooted a week later. lol You have the magic touch

Sylvan Triumph

Great looking begonia Jackie. It is so full of spots. Does it bloom?

I got Avalanche at the Houston show this year and while it is full of spots and is a robust grower, I have yet to see any blooms. Reminds me of Cracklin Rosie and Sophie Cecile.

Butch, that's one lovely Begonia. No wonder the hybridizer named it Avalanche,
it has as much silver/white on the lvs as it does green.
I can't remember Sylvan Triumph blooming. Probably only because I don't treat it
right: no food, no sun to speak of and no bigger pot.
I've got one month to pot up before the Holiday season and all the stress that brings.
Hope I can get a few done before then.

No time like the present for potting up. I went to our annual begonia dig this past Saturday and brought home six new ones. Potted those up last night and then did 3 of my plants I got from LA last year - sanguinea, Gene Daniels, and parviflora (I got this off eBay though). I cooked my Green Fountain leaves I put down a few days earlier (at least half of them) since the sun has come out and I had the pan in the wrong place.

Green Fountain cuttings before they got fried.

Butch, at least you salvaged half of your leaves. Looks to be a very pretty Begonia.
I had a Gene Daniels at one time, nice Begonia.

Live and learn. I may try a few more leaves to replace the burned ones.

Here is Pink Minx.

Oh my gosh Butch, it's gorgeous. Mine looks pitiful by comparison. lol

Joan, I think it's Lucerna. Butch will probably know.

Jackie

Jackie, Thanks so much. I was given a 6 inch cutting and it has grown really fast. I like it because it is just as pretty in the winter as the summer. Joan

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

I agree with Jackie. It looks very much like B. 'Lucerna'. Mine has not bloomed in years. I have kept mine shorter though the last several years which may have something to do with it.

Lovely assorted foliage Butch. The Alocasia's and Colocasia's
compliment the Begonia leaves
I cut my 3 Lucerna's way back in late summer. No blooms for me
either.

Hey Jackie,

That picture was taken after a rainy day so the leaves all look glossy. I kind of like the look. Those begonias and some of the alocasias (at least Frydek) are all in my aluminum starter pans and have been there at least two years. One day I will put them in respectable pots. I did start some new pots of canes from cuttings (Lucerna included from the above picture). Maybe next year I will have blooms once again?

Here was Lucerna in 2005 when I had it in a big pot of other canes. It was barely blooming in this picture.

Beautiful canes Butch. I especially like the dark cane on the left in the big pot.
The light green lvd cane with the soft pink blooms right above it, is that
Bleeding Heart?

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

The dark leaved one is Little Miss Mummey (spots) and Irene Nuss (bigger leaf). Sophie Cecile may be in there as well.

The tall green leaf one with pink blooms is unknown. It looks like albo-picta 'Rosea' or coccinea or 'Flamingo' based on what pictures I can find.

Here is a closer view of it.

Butch, I think the light green one probably is albo-picta but possibly the
same Begonia as Bleeding Heart. I recognized Maurice Amey, Hemsleyana,
Cracklin rosie, Looking glass, Irene Nuss and the one with the center stripe, Listada? memory fails me again. lol Love Little Miss Mummey

Powder Springs, GA(Zone 7b)

The one with the stripe is B. 'Magdalene Madsen' whose parent is B. listada. The other one is B. carolineifolia (not B. hemsleyana). I wouldn't mind having B. hemsleyana and B. U404 (lost it this year).

B. 'Flamingo Queen' in bloom.

Flamingo Queen is one of my favorites. Love her big dots and pretty flowers.
Butch, does this one grow tall?
